Norbert "Skip" Saxton Sr.


Saratoga Springs, NY – Norbert C. “Skip” Saxton Sr., 71, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 29, 2012.

Born in Saratoga Springs October 16, 1940, Skip was the son of the late Norbert K. and Dorothy (Cole) Saxton and on June 25, 1960, he married Sandra E. Sheen, who passed away in 1993.

Skip attended school at St. Peter’s Academy on Broadway and then went on to work within the harness horse racing industry as a groom, trainer, owner and a driver. Skip traveled and worked all over New England and in Florida, finally coming home to settle in Saratoga Springs to raise his family and live his life doing what he loved. Skip enjoyed his work and meeting with his family and friends all over town, and was known for his cowboy hats and belt buckles. He also enjoyed spending time at his camping trailer on Lake Lonely.

Skip was a member of many local organizations including the American Legion Adirondack Post 70, I.T.A.M. Post 35 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2586, just to name a few.

Survivors include his children, Elizabeth A. (Donald) Farmer, Suzanne M. (Joel Greenfield) Saxton and Norbert C. “Skip”(Christina France) Saxton Jr.; grandchildren, Kristine (Mike) Messina, Michael (Heather) Farmer, Robyn Greenfield, Brady Saxton, Connor Saxton and Alanna Saxton; great-granddaughter; Alisandra S. Farmer; siblings, Robert (Marylou) Saxton, Joyce Moseman, Joan Saxton, Wayne (Linda) Saxton, Sharon Herrington, Carol (Sonny) Furlani, Kevin Saxton, Nancy (Rick) Fountaine and Linda (Paul) Battiste; companion, Susanne Millias; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in the family plot at St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Ave., Saratoga Springs.

  • New York State Police The New York State Police announced that it issued 5,576 tickets during this year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement initiative. The campaign began on Friday, March 15, and continued until Sunday, March 17.
