Joseph E. Ruccio Jr.

Saratoga Springs, NY – Joseph E. Ruccio Jr., 76, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012.
Born September 7, 1935, in Waterbury, Conn., he was the son of the late Joseph and Angeline Barbiero Ruccio of Naugatuck, Conn., where Joe was raised as a child. He graduated from Colgate University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1957. Joe served two years in the US Army and then began his teaching career in Granville, NY. Teaching was Joe’s passion, history and economics were his subjects. In 1964, to further his abilities as a teacher, he enrolled in the political science Master’s program at the University of Vermont, which is where he met is wife, Barbara, on a blind date. They were married on August 14, 1965 and moved to Saratoga Springs. For over 30 years, Joe taught in the classroom and coached in Ballston Spa and Saratoga Springs. After retiring as a teacher, he embarked on a second career as a stock broker and financial advisor. Joe was involved in the Saratoga Springs community and was especially proud of his role in starting the youth hockey program during the early years of the Saratoga Youth Commission.  He was a communicant of St. Clement’s Church.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughters, Karen Ruccio, Christina (Leo Boudreau) Ruccio; son, Jed (Courtney) Ruccio; grandchildren, Nole and Oliver Ruccio and Annalise Boudreau. Joe is also survived by his special friend, Luke, a dog of uncommon loyalty.
There will be no calling hours. 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at St. Clement’s Church, 231 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215-5450, (www.dana-farber.org).

Greenfield Center, NY – Richard Lewis Arnold, 80, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. 
Richard was born May 7, 1932, in the Town of Milton, NY. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from 1952-1954, at which time he met and married Marion Bright of Elizabeth City, NC.  Since then they have resided in Greenfield Center. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a logger and later retired in 1992 from the Laborers Union Local 157. 
Richard, known as “Dick” by his close friends, was best known for his love of hard work and he cherished spending time with his family. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved going to local dirt tracks. He took every opportunity to travel or just go for a ride. In his earlier years he loved to hunt and fish every chance he got.
Richard was predeceased by his children, Cynthia Bonds and Richard Arnold, Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Marion Bright Arnold; his daughters, Betty (Paul) Cameron and Carol (Stan) Cameron; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Raymond (Barbara) Arnold, his sister-in-law, Doris Arnold; and many nieces and nephews.
Richard’s family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors and staff at Saratoga Hospital, as well as to Jimmy Older for his close friendship with Richard in recent years.
Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8pm Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the 
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, (518) 584-5373. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot at North Milton Cemetery, Milton.

  • New York State Police The New York State Police announced that it issued 5,576 tickets during this year’s St. Patrick’s Day enforcement initiative. The campaign began on Friday, March 15, and continued until Sunday, March 17. During the campaign, funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, State Police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and underage drinking and sales to minors detail.
