Alfio “Al” Bonacio Sr.

Saratoga Springs, NY - Alfio “Al” Bonacio Sr., passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 3, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, at Saratoga Hospital. He was 72.

Born at Columbus Hospital in New York City on February 27, 1940, Al attended Seward Park High School, graduating in 1957. In 1962, while working at a bakery in New York, he met his wife, Linda Tychostup through his co-worker and soon to be father-in-law, Moe Tychostup. They were married June 16, 1963 in New York City. Al and Linda moved to Saratoga Springs to run Linda’s great-grandfather’s business, National Window Cleaning and raised their three children here.

Sales were Al’s passion, working at Leland Paper Company with commercial accounts and then becoming a real estate broker. Along with his wife Linda, Al opened Bonacio Real Estate.

Al loved to cook and shared his skills with his children, neighbors, friends and grandchildren. He also loved to tell stories and share his opinion with all. He was a member of the Saratoga Elks Club and an avid snowmobiler. His love of the ponies was unparalleled. He enjoyed spending time at the Saratoga Race Track during the meet each August and later, with his health failing, he would handicap the races during dialysis, from his home “OTB.”

Al is predeceased by his parents, Santo and Rosa Bonacia.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Linda; three children, Laura of Albany, NY, Sonny (Julie) and Tony (Jill), all of Saratoga Springs, NY; sisters, Mary Bonacia and Carmela Kasoff (Larry) of Forest Hills, NY; brothers Frank Bonacia of Whitestone, NY and Joe Bonacia of Boca Raton, FL; niece Melissa Kasoff of Forest Hills, NY and six grandchildren, Anthony, Addison, Alex, Gianna, William and Luca and his godson, Frank Sidoti.
