The past couple of weeks have been about the best food possible, in my mind, at least. The days are shortening, the air is getting cooler and crisper, and as the deciduous trees around Saratoga start to hint of a change of color, the mosquitoes and flies are beating a retreat. It’s time to come outdoors, and light a fire – for food and for warmth. And it’s time to eat the greatest foods of all – green beans that…

The Saratoga Farmers’ Market has wrapped up its first-ever Power of Produce Club for the summer. However, as fall approaches, market vendors, volunteers, and staffers encourage parents and their children to continue the journey of connecting the food they eat to the farmers that grow it. The club began in June with support from a $500 grant from Stewarts Shops, and took place during each Wednesday market from June 1 through August 31. Children between the ages of 5 and…
Hello my Foodie Friends. Well, the kids are all back to school and our hectic schedules are in place. One of our family’s favorite foods is pizza; especially Paula’s homemade pizza. Pizza is an excellent all around family food that every person can personalize and enjoy on the day it is cooked or the following day (Breakfast Pizza!). It is also a perfect “on the go” food to help with the crazy schedules that we all have. Back in time,…
Hello my Foodie Friends! We hope everyone had a wonderful summer and were able to spend some quality time with family and friends. It is hard to believe we are into Labor Day weekend already and the racing season is in its final stretch. Many of our customers come in from areas all over the country and sometimes the world, coming to Saratoga Springs to visit family and friends. We always enjoy hearing everyone’s stories about the individuals they are…
Tucked into a corner of the Saturday Saratoga Farmers’ Market is a truck, a set of tables bearing tomatoes in multiple shapes, sizes, and colors, and a grinning wood donkey, clad in overalls. The donkey, named Paco, welcomes visitors to Old World Farm and its of growing good food to nourish a community. “We specialize in heirlooms,” owner Paul Moyer said, “Partly because we love the flavors, and partly because it’s a part of our heritage. It’s a way of…
Hello Foodie Friends. Each week we write about the fun of creating and cooking fabulous dishes. However, with making these dishes comes the mess and dreaded task of cleaning up which becomes someone’s responsibility. Many conflicts occur within a household on whose turn it is to wash the dishes. I remember in my childhood years fighting with my four other siblings on who would be assigned the chore of doing the dishes. Having grown up in an Italian household with…
Last fall I moved from an apartment in Tupper Lake, surrounded by flower beds that I had planted over several years, to a home in Saratoga Springs that was devoid of a garden. I was determined to remedy that situation, so I transplanted some of my perennials to my new home. I brought Asiatic lilies, lupines, coneflowers, poppies and more. My husband dug some beds and I got everything transplanted by November 1. Spring arrived. I was happy to see…
