A portion of sales from this show will benefit Wiawaka Holiday House. Located in Lake George, Wiawaka was created by and for women in 1903. It is the oldest and longest continuously operating retreat for women in America. Each year Mimosa Gallery holds a fundraiser. Past recipients have been the Saratoga ArtsFest, the Capital District Big Brother/Big Sisters, the Clinton/Bush Haiti Fund, the Alzheimer Foundation, etc.
Gallery owner, Michelle LaLonde, feels that the pairing of artist McEvoy and Wiawaka is "quite appropriate, given the artist's botanical and landscape subject matter and the historical Lake George Retreat's setting."
Pat McEvoy's artist statement notes: "I work with the beauty and majesty of the landscape and am also fascinated by the chance compositions that I find around the house. There is a freedom and excitement in allowing the paint to do what it wants, as in the accidental merging and drippings that may occur and in areas where colors may be mixed and layered right on the surface."
