The Flurry Festival Shake off the winter blues. It’s time to dance, sing, jam, and more. The 30th Flurry Festival will run from February 17-19, 2017, at the Saratoga Springs City Center located at 522 Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Dancers can participate in a variety of workshops and programs designed for all levels of experience, from beginner to advanced. The festival also includes an array of performances, singing, concerts, jamming, storytelling, vendors, and more. It’s the perfect event to bring your dancing and non-dancing friends with you. Flurry Festival Sing Around On Friday, February 17 at 8:30 p.m. the Flurry’s finest inaugurate the new Caffe Lena in a relaxed sing-around evening featuring, but not limited to, Kim & Reggie Harris, Quickstep (John Kirk, Trish Miller, Katie Martucci, Ed Lowman) and Waxwing Four (Stefan Amidon, Brendan Taaffe, Adam Simon, Wheaton Squier). Free admission with Flurry Wristband or $10 for general admission. Beginning Genealogy A free class open to all, will be offered on Saturday, February 18 from 10 a.m. noon at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, located at the corner of Rt. 4 and Rt. 29 in Schuylerville. Pat Peck, past president of Heritage Hunters, will teach basic research skills including the use of vital records, census records, deeds, wills and online research. Basic genealogy forms and other materials will be provided. Please call 518-584-4129 to reserve a spot. Note: Bring a sandwich if you intend to stay for the monthly meeting of Heritage Hunters at 1 p.m. Genealogy and Local History Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County will meet on Saturday, February 18, at 1 p.m. at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, corner of Rt. 4 and Rt. 29 in Schuylerville. “Lost Landmarks of Saratoga County” will be the program topic by speaker, Anne Clothier. Anne has been the Director of Education for Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa for 5 years and has a background in Museum Studies. Her presentation, which Anne says is a continually expanding subject, will include once thriving hotels, industries, amusement parks, mineral springs that have dissipated and even buildings that have found new purposes. Winter Fun Festival Enjoy Sledding and Tobogganing on Bath St. in Ballston Spa (snow permitting) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 18. There will also be family activities at Ballston Spa Elks beginning at 5 p.m. Crafts, games, food and music. Sponsored by the Village of Ballston Spa and the Town of Milton. Church Pieroghi Sale Christ the Savior parish, located at 349 Eastline Rd., Ballston Lake, NY will hold its monthly pieroghi sale on Tuesday, February 21. Pick-up is on Tuesday between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Frozen Dance Party Sing a-long and story-time with most-liked favorite enchanted sisters at the Frozen Dance Party on Tuesday February 21 and Thursday, February 23, held at the National Museum of Dance and Hall of Fame, located at 99 South Broadway, Saratoga Springs, from 10 a.m. to Noon. Make your own Frozen Princess Crown & Olaf. Be sure to wear your favorite princess costume. Cookies and juice will be served. Admission is free. An Affirmative Prayer Workshop Albany-Saratoga Spiritual Adventures is hosting An Affirmative Prayer Workshop on Tuesday, February 21, 6:30-8 p.m. at Woodlawn Commons, 156 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs. This workshop gives attendees an in-depth look at the process of writing a powerful, creative affirmative prayer as developed by visionary and teacher Ernest Holmes. Suggested donation is $20. Southern Adirondack Audubon Society Gerry Lemmo will present a talk “Exploring Albany’s Pine Bush”, on Wednesday, February 22, as part of the monthly the program. The Albany Pine Bush is where the endangered Karner blue butterfly still survives, though surrounded by human development. Gerry Lemmo is a professional photographer, naturalist and lecturer specializing in wildlife, natural history and travel images from around the globe. The program will be held in the Christine L. Mc Donald Community Room on the lower level of the Crandall Library in downtown Glens Falls. The program will begin at 7p.m. and is free and open to the public. Rummage and Bake Sale Ballston Spa United Methodist Church will be holding a Rummage and Bake Sale on Saturday, March 4 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Room (in the back of the church). Departure from Saratoga Train Station at 6:15 a.m. or American Legion in Schuylerville at 6:45 a.m. Cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members. This annual fundraising gala provides critically needed support to over 700 individuals facing homelessness in our region each year. Guests will be treated to an evening cocktail style reception, dancing, silent auction and the core reason for its existence; providing help, hope and humanity to those most in need. Reservations: $100 per person. This year we will be honoring Saratoga Springs Police Chief, Greg Veitch with the Help, Hope and Humanity Award for his outstanding dedication of service to our community. This course is open to girls and boys, ages 10 and up. Participants will learn the basics of CABS (Child and Babysitting Safety), along with CPR and first aid. Fighting for Mya Fundraiser The American Legion Post 234, located at 23 Pleasant Street in Ballston Spa, will host a fund raiser for 15 year old sophomore, Mya, who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. This benefit will take place on April 29, 2017 at 2p.m. All support will be greatly appreciated.
