The SRA girls rowed the 2,000 meter course in 6:54.76 for the gold medal. They beat the second-place Swan River team by six seconds for silver, and Queenwood, last year's champions, took the bronze medal. The Saratoga Rowing Association girls varsity eight is made up of seniors Caroline Murphy who will attending Duke University, Shannon Merboth who will be attending University of Pennsylvania, Alexis Georgia who will be attending Cornell, and Kerri Wegner and Kelli Wegner, sisters, who will be attending Boston University; juniors: Mackenzie Battle, Meghan Hampton and MacKenzie Hart and sophomore, Claire Murphy.
Saratoga Springs Supervisors Joanne Yepsen and Matt Veitch presented the award which was presided over by Chair of the Board Alan Grattidge from Charlton.
The Saratoga Varsity Girls was invited to the Sydney International Rowing Regatta and World Cup after having won a gold medal at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Massachusetts last October, beating out Oakland Strokes, California who took second place.
