Miles Hawes, 22, of 4th Street, Watervliet and Daniel Clow, 23, of Simon Lane, Latham are accused of breaking into over 75 vehicles in a 10 block area covering Lake Avenue south to Fifth Avenue, and East Avenue to the Northway overpass.
According to the SSPD, they responded at 4:12 a.m. Friday morning to Patricia Lane for a report of a suspicious vehicle and that two white males were seen leaving the car and walking through the neighborhood. Officers responded to the area but upon arrival found the suspicious vehicle and the men had left the area, but continued to search. At 5 a.m., a call from Elizabeth Lane for a similar report of a suspicious vehicle and a few minutes later stopped a vehicle on Henning Road just before Union Avenue. The vehicle fit the description of the suspicious vehicle and there were two white males in it and the officer quickly realized that they were the subjects in question from the Patricia Lane call. He also noticed items in the vehicle that looked suspicious in nature and probed the subjects a little more.
Hawes and Clows were arrested and the vehicle in question was impounded and items were secured that are associated to the burglary and larcenies. The police department is asking for anyone who may have been a victim of a burglary or larceny from a vehicle during the night, in the above mentioned area, to contact the police department at (518) 584-1800.
Hawes and Clow were charged with third degree burglary, fourth degree grand larceny for a theft exceeding $1,000, fourth degree grand larceny for the theft of a credit card, criminal tampering and petit larceny. They were jailed pending arraignment.
