ALBANY — Joseph L. Bruno was found not guilty of honest services and mail fraud.
The jury’s decision in federal court comes just over a week after the retrial began May 5 with jury selection and continued with seven days of testimony and closing arguments.
Bruno, 85, was convicted on the charges in 2009—charges that were later on overturned.
The former state Senate Majority Leader was accused of taking bribes from Jared Abbruzzese in exchange for pushing state money toward Abbruzzese’s business interests.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Elizabeth Coombe and William Pericak prosecuted the case.
