Teach Kids To Save Day
SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Adirondack Trust Company is participating in the American Bankers Association’s Teach Children to Save Day by offering financial education coloring books during the week of Monday, April 24. Community children are asked to visit any Adirondack Trust branch while their parents complete banking transactions.
Established by the American Bankers Association (ABA) Foundation in 1997, Teach Children to Save and other education initiatives have reached 8.2 million young people through the commitment of more than 245,000 banker volunteers.
The Adirondack Trust Co. offers the following tips for money-savvy parents: Set the example of a responsible money manager by paying bills on time, being a conscientious spender and an active saver; talk openly about money with kids, communicating values and experiences; encourage kids to ask questions and be prepared to answer them; explain the difference between needs and wants, the value of saving and budgeting and the consequences of not doing so; open savings accounts for children so they can learn how to be hands-on in their money management; let friends and family know about a child’s savings goal; and engage a coalition of support groups to provide youth with the education they need to succeed.

Annual Document Shred Day
SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Adirondack Trust Company will provide its annual personal document shredding that is open to the public on Saturday, April 22. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the bank’s 31 Church Street location.
Items that will be accepted for shredding include sensitive papers (white or color), carbon paper, file folders, old checkbooks, bank statements, expired credit cards or debit cards, and plastic ID cards. Paper items with staples and/or paperclips also will be accepted; they do not need to be removed prior to shredding.

Adirondack Trust Seeks Grant Applications
SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Adirondack Trust Company Community Fund has begun to accept grant applications from eligible nonprofit charities headquartered in the Saratoga, Warren and Washington County areas. The grant window is open from April 1 to September 25.
The fund was established in 2009 to build an endowment that acts as a perpetual source of funding for a broad array of nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of life in the community, and to assist them in addressing issues of common concern. The fund also seeks to foster a community spirit of giving by providing donors with unique and flexible ways to manage charitable donations.
In 2016, the Community Fund awarded $42,270 in “Lend-a-Hand” grants to 23 local organizations, supporting such diverse programs as veteran’s outreach, mental health services, wildlife education, homelessness prevention, youth services and the arts.
