Jacquelyn R. Whitehorn

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Jacquelyn R. Whitehorn of Tompion Lane. Saratoga Springs died peacefully in the presence of her family on October 22. She was 91 years old. 

Born on January 24, 1922 in Jackson, Mississippi she was the daughter of the late Hubert Rogers and Ruby Langford Rogers. 

Jacquelyn was an accomplished woman. She earned her Bachelor degree from Stephens College. Mrs. Whitehorn’s first job came with the American Red Cross in Mississippi, from there she went to work for Keesler Air Force base in Biloxi Mississippi as a Radiological Defense Secretary and later as a Base Court Reporter. After attending Librarian School at Louisiana University, Jacquelyn worked as a division head for the National War College Library in Washington D.C. 

During this period she met and married her husband, Lt. Floyd H. Whitehorn, embarking on their life long journey together. They eventually moved to Monterey, California where she worked as a librarian while her husband attended Chinese Language School for the U.S. Navy. They briefly lived in Hawaii before he retired from the navy and they moved to Long Island, where their daughter Patricia was born. They settled in Rocky Point, Long Island for nine years until Floyd accepted a position in the NYS Employment office in Saratoga Springs. Following Patricia’s birth, she stayed home to raise her. She was an amazing mother and wife with an infinite amount of love and support for her family They retired to Stevensville, Maryland. in 1983 where Mr. Whitehorn later passed away in 1997. One year later Mrs. Whitehorn decided to return to the Saratoga Springs area to be near her daughter Patricia. 

In her leisure Jacquelyn loved to read, faithfully attended the Schuylerville United Methodist Church and was very active in her faith. She was a member of the Red Hats and the Christian Women’s’ Club of Saratoga Springs. Mrs. Whitehorn volunteered as an usher for the Saratoga Performing Arts Center where she loved to watch the New York City Ballet. 

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Lynn Yule and her husband Jeffrey Alan Yule of Northumberland and two grandchildren, Patrick Tyler Yule and Sarah Elizabeth Yule. 

Family and friends may call from 10-11 a.m. at the Tunison Funeral Home 105 Lake Avenue Saratoga Springs on Monday October 28.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Schuylerville United Methodist Church. 466 Route 32 Schuylerville.

Burial will be at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 1 p.m.

The campaign began on Friday, March 15, and continued until Sunday, March 17.
