SARATOGA SPRINGS — Clarence “Al” Bishop Sr., 79, passed away on Tuesday, March 18 at Albany Medical Center after an accidental fall on the ice at his home.
Al was born May 22, 1934 in Saratoga Springs to the late Nelson and Helen Butterfield Bishop.
He was educated in Saratoga Springs and was a lifelong resident of the area.
Al married the love of his life and best friend Florence Perry on August 24, 1955 and they spent 58 wonderful years together.
Al served his country in the U.S. Army for 20 years, retiring from the reserves.
He worked as a cook for the New York State Department of Corrections, Mount McGregor, retiring after 29 years of service.
Al loved spending time with his family and enjoyed being with his grandchildren.
He was a wise guy who liked making people laugh and always squawking his chickens, making his presence known. Al was a long time Yankees fan, enjoyed Bingo and loved his McDonalds coffee.
Al is survived by his wife, Florence “Flo”; and sons, Clarence Jr. (Cheryl) of St. Cloud, Florida and Jeffrey Bishop Sr. (Melissa) of Saratoga; daughters, Lillian Kirkpatrick (Ed) of Saratoga and Suzanne Allen (Matthew) of Greenfield Center; sisters, Beulah Gilroy (William)of Ohio and Dorothy Wilkins of Saratoga; brothers, Richard Bishop and Martin Bishop (Jane), both of Florida; 11 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Mihalek and Beverly Bujanowski; brothers, Sonny and Sam Bishop; grandson Tom Kirkpatrick.
