Phillipsport, NY - Saul Hershenhart died peacefully in his home Thursday, December 15, 2011.
The son of James and Fannie (Rudinsky) Hershenhart, Saul was born in Laurelton, NY, October 4, 1924. Graduating from City College of New York at age 18, he was a decorated veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. Following his service, he returned to City College for his advanced degrees. With a keen mind for numbers and the ability to do the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle quickly in ink, Saul will be remembered for his great intellect, wonderful stories, analytical mind and compassion for others. He worked as an engineer for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, the U.S. Navy at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, the U.S. General Services Administration and a private engineering consulting firm in Eastern Long Island.
Saul was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Edith, and is survived by his sisters, Rose Noble and Stella Orlofsky; daughters, Elise (Steve Emerman) Hershenhart; Lori (Christine Wegryzn) Hershenhart and Beth (Amanda Hiller) Hershenhart; grandchildren, Christopher and Erica; and a loving extended family.
A graveside service with military honors was held. Monday, December 19, 2011, at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY.
