Saratoga Springs, NY - Douglas P. Braim, 52, of Walter Drive, passed away Friday evening, January 13, 2012, with his family at his side, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Born December 13, 1959, in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of Joseph and Beatrice (Smith) Braim. After graduating from St. Peter’s Academy, he chose to pursue a career in the trades. He worked briefly for the New York Racing Association, Saratoga County and Stewart’s before returning to the employ of his longtime friend, Anthony Arpey of A.J. Arpey and Son.
Doug always enjoyed helping anyone in need. He often applied his skills to projects that his friends and family were involved in. He was truly fond of spending time with his family, where he could display his unique sense of humor, often directed toward his three sisters, obtaining the desired result. Doug’s real joy in life was his three sons. He would stop whatever he was doing for an opportunity to spend time with his boys. He especially liked showing them the outdoors, where they went camping, fishing and hunting in the Adirondacks.
Doug was predeceased by an infant sister, Theresa.
Survivors include his parents, Joseph and Beatrice (Smith) Braim; sons, Douglas Jr., Christopher and Joseph; siblings, Donald (Elaine), Susan Briggs, Joanne (Joseph) Natalie and Joyce (Jay) Tourtellot; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and good friends.
Relatives and friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2012, at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY, (518) 584-5373.
Burial will be private.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to Drs. Hayes and Liebers, as well as the entire nursing staff on C-3 at Saratoga Hospital for their guidance, professionalism and most importantly, their compassion during Doug’s treatment and hospital stay. The nursing and support staff were always willing and ready to tend to the needs of both Doug and his family. A heartfelt thank you to Cat, a very special, caring person.
