Saratoga Springs, NY- Vernon A. Gardner, 85, died suddenly at Ellis Hospital Thursday, February 9, 2012.
Born May 19, 1927, in Altona, NY, he was the son of the late Albert Gardner and Rose Patnode.
Mr. Gardner proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war he married his wife, Greta Vanderbogart, and she later died June 29, 1990.
Vernon worked as a carpenter for General Electric for over 34 years. In his leisure he loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed sports such as golfing and bowling. Vernon loved to travel as well, spending many of his vacations in the Caribbean. His children fondly remember all the family picnics that they went on.
He is predeceased by his son in-law Timothy P Allen.
Survivors include his sons Paul G. (Jean), Bruce W. (Renee), Elric D., Ronald R. (Donna) and James V.; daughter, Carol A. Allen; brother, Roger (Peggy); a brother in-law, George Vanderbogart; a sister in-law, Audrey (Ed) Barrington; companion, Karen Kennedy; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Memorial donations can be made to the Spinal Cord Association in the memory of Timothy Allen.
