Middle Grove, NY - Anne Wochinger Zimmerman, 61, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012, at home with her loving family and friends by her bedside after complications from lymphoma.
Anne was born September 24, 1950, to Marilynn and Frank Wochinger and grew up in Lynbrook NY. She graduated from SUNY Albany in 1972 and began a teaching career in mathematics at Estee Middle School, Gloversville, NY. She also earned a master’s degree from University at Albany and an Educational Administration Certification. After retiring from Gloversville School District, Anne worked in teacher certification with Fulton Montgomery BOCES until 2011.
Anne was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister and teacher who had a real zest for life. She used her creative skills while enjoying gardening, music, pottery and painting. Her garden was extensive and a beautiful labor of love. She loved traveling in the United States and abroad and enjoyed experiencing different cultures. Anne also enjoyed hiking in the Adirondacks and the national parks.
She was a lover of Scrabble, NYT crossword puzzles, and, of course, Words With Friends. One of her favorite things was baking cookies with her daughters and getting involved in any activities that helped children. Anne was always a very positive and strong woman who looked to help others and gave of herself often and willingly. She had a special ability to bring people together.
Anne is survived by her parents, Frank and Marilynn Wochinger; her husband, John Zimmerman; daughters, Lesley (Adam) Hostetter and Laura (Ryan Smith) Zimmerman; siblings, Nancy (Bob) Hayes, Mark Wochinger and Joe Keegan, Carol Wochinger and Alison (Thomas) Siragus; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who all provided wonderful support through this tough time.
A celebration of Anne's life took place Wednesday, February 8, 2012.
Anne’s family would like to give special thanks to all the staff of Dr. David Mastrianni of Saratoga Oncology Hematology, Dr. Alex Frank of the Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Center, and Saratoga Hospice for the special care they gave to Anne. We would also like to acknowledge her siblings and many friends but especially the extraordinary care given by Gerri Biggers, Janyce Lukowski, Penny Lockwood and Courtney Lehan.
