June E. Whitley

Saratoga Springs, NY- June E. Whitley, 89, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Whitley was born February 18, 1923, in New York City. She was the daughter of the late George Granville and Rose Convey Granville.

June married her husband, Lee H. Whitley, on March 31, 1946, in Albemarle, North Carolina. Shortly after being married, the couple moved to Queens NY, where they resided for many years in Bayside. Mr. Whitley passed away December 22, 1974.

In 1976, June moved to Saratoga Springs. She joined St. Clement's Parish and enjoyed volunteering there and in many other organizations in Saratoga. She was active in the Saratoga Hospital Guild, Visiting Nurses, various blood mobiles and most recently she was an attendant at the Saratoga Springs Visitors Center on Broadway. June was a past member of the Principessa Elena Society. She enjoyed playing bridge, bingo and other card games with her friends. Junewill be remembered by her family as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, June was predeceased by two brothers, George and Warren Granville; and a sister, Dorothy Farrell.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda (William) Schmidt; grandchildren, Alexander (Lisa) Schmidt and Andrew Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Maggie and Lucy; sisters-in-law, Jane Honeycutt and Faye Dailey; brothers in-law, Baxter Honeycutt and Vernon Hatley; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Whitley's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Saratoga Hospital D1 for the kindness and care she received during her brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 5, 2012.

June will be buried with her husband, Lee, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Saratoga, NY.
