Saratoga Springs, NY - Fernand E. Chouinard, 84, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012.
Born April 5, 1928, in Barre, VT, he was the son of the late Joseph M. and Rose Aimee Boisvert Chouinard. He attended grade school at West Hill and St. Monica’s in Barre. VT. While serving in the U.S. Army he received the WWII Victory Medals and Army of Occupation Medal Japan, Korean SVC Medal, NAT Def. SVC Medal, U.N. SVC Medal, OCC Medal of Japan, four Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. On February 7, 1959, he married Mary Lorraine Chartier in Barre, VT. They moved to Plattsburgh, Morrisonville, and then to Saratoga Springs in 1970. Fernand was very active in the community serving as past Commander of VFW 420 Gurtler Bros. and past Commander of Hudson Mohawk Counties Council VFW. He held many chairmanships on past levels including Council and District 3 of VFW, member of the American Legion Post #10 in Barre, VT and Post #70 Saratoga, ITAM #35 Korean War Vets. He was a lifetime member of the Maple Ave. Fire Co. #4, Fire Police, Saratoga County Fire Police, Honor Guard for Post #420 and Honor Guard for Saratoga National Cemetery. Fernand was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the International Operating Engineers Local 106.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his daughter, Amie Rose Chouinard, and two brothers, Laurence and Paul Chouinard.
Survivors include his wife, M. Lorraine Chouinard; son, Bryan (Jill) Chouinard; daughters, Kim (Thomas) DeGraw, Lynn Chouinard and Dawna (Gregory) Miczek; grandson, Andrew DeGraw; granddaughters, Alexandra Chouinard, Kaitlin and Kristen Miczek; brothers, Andre (Mary) Chouinard and Bernard (Beverly) Chouinard; sisters-in-law, Josephine Chouinard and Elva Chouinard; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 28, 2012, at St. Clement’s Church, 231 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs.
Burial with military honors will be in the family plot at St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Ave., Saratoga Springs.
