Saratoga Springs, NY- Avilla G. Deits, 88, passed away peacefully May 7, 2012.
Born April 29, 1924, in Schenectady, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Geier and Avilla Martin Geier.
Mrs. Deits worked for many years as a RN at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. In 1975 Avilla moved to the Saratoga Springs area and went to work at the Saratoga Hospital; she also worked for Skidmore College in their infirmary. She filled her life and career with helping and caring for people.
Avilla was a member of the Katrina Trask Garden Club in Saratoga Springs for many years. She was also participated in a local bowling league and bocce leagues at the Saratoga Springs Knights of Columbus. Mrs. Deits was an avid fan of arts and literature. She was also an avid crafter and was known of the beautiful items that she sewed.
In addition to her parents, Avilla was predeceased by a brother, Frederick (Buddy) Geier Jr.
Survivors include her daughters, Ellen D. (J. David) Woods and Diane (Jeffrey) Bartlett; grandchildren, John and Harrison Woods; and many special friends.
Avilla’s daughters would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and doctors at both Wesley Health Care Center and Saratoga Hospital.
Memorial services will be held Saturday May 12, 2012, at the Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 at 11 a.m. Family and friends may call from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service.
