D. Susan Knight

BALLSTON SPA – D. Susan Knight passed away Monday, January 7 unexpectedly at the age of 53.

Born in Atlanta Georgia, she was the daughter of Ronald M. Seaman and Mary Helen (Yelton) Seaman. She married Thomas J. Knight on July 14, 1984 on the Melody Herford Ranch in Jackson, Wyoming and moved to Saratoga Springs in 1985.

Sue graduated from Cornel University in 1981 with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in hopes of becoming a veterinarian. She played on the Cornel Women’s polo team and was part of a National championship team. After graduation she worked and played polo in Georgia, Florida, and Wyoming. Sue moved to Saratoga Springs to become head coach of Skidmore’s Men’s and Women’s polo teams, the first woman to do so. She went on to start her own riding and training business in Ballston Spa, with her husband. Sue specialized in helping people with problem or difficult horses and taught many adults and children the joy of riding. She continued playing polo in New York and the Northeast.

Her mother, Mary Helen, predeceased her in 2003.

Sue leaves behind her husband of 28 years, Thomas J. Knight; her father Ronald M. Seaman and his wife Leoncia; sisters, Kathryn (Seaman) Harackiewicz, Pamela (Seaman) McCormick; brother, Ronald M. Seaman Jr. and several nieces and nephews.

She will be missed for her passion and commitment to helping horses and their owners develop and build long lasting relationships and introduce people to the world of horses.

A memorial service will be held 12 noon Monday, January 14, at the Skidmore Chapel on the campus Skidmore College, 805 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs.

Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway (518) 584-5373.
