Car Wash Fundraiser The Hands and Feet Ministry at Saratoga Abundant Life Church, located at the Corner of Hutchins Rd., and Route 50 in Saratoga Springs, will be having a car wash to raise money for the Hands and Feet Ministry for service projects that bless the community. Genealogy and Local History Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County will meet on Saturday, July 16 at 1pm at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, corner of Rt. 4 and Rt. 29 in Schuylerville. John Gearing, Lawyer and a trustee of the Schenectady County Historical Society, will be the program leader. The topic will be, “Using Legal Records in Genealogical Research.” John’s experience includes several years at a title insurance firm, resulting in hundreds of land record searches in various New York State counties. Trip to Corning Museum of Glass Serendipity Arts Studio announces an adventure for all ages to the Corning Museum of Glass in Western New York on Sunday, July 17. The Museum displays the world’s best collection of art and historical glass. Learn about the science and technology behind innovations in glass through hands-on exhibits and demonstrations in the teaching studios. Trip includes a glass blowing class to make your own glass ornament. The trip is open to adults and children at $99 per person. The tour coach departs from the Congress Plaza parking lot in Saratoga Springs parking lot at 7:30 a.m. and returns at approximately 10:30 p.m. Price includes round trip bus fare, driver tip, glass making class and shipping of your finished piece to Serendipity Arts Studio for pick up. Havurah Vatik – The Worm in the Core: The Role of Death in Life In a long-awaited return engagement, Professor Sheldon Solomon will share his insights into the effects on individual and social behavior of the uniquely human awareness of death. From noble achievements to ignominious affectations, the fear of death and the quest for immortality have been pervasive throughout the history of human cultures. Sheldon Solomon is Professor of Psychology at Skidmore College. His studies of the effects of human awareness of death were featured in the award-winning documentary film, Flight from Death: the Quest for Immortality. He is co-author of In the Wake of 9/11: The Psychology of Terror and The Worm in the Core: On the Role of Death in Life. He is the recipient of numerous awards in the field of psychology. Free Outdoor Theater Saratoga Shakespeare Company is celebrating the 16th summer season of free outdoor theater in beautiful Congress Park in downtown Saratoga Springs. Flower Show The Schuylerville Garden Club will present its annual National Garden Club Standard Flower Show entitled “Prose, Poetry and Posies” on Saturday, July 23 from 1 - 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 24 from Noon-4 p.m. in the Saratoga Town Hall, corner of Spring and Broad St in Schuylerville. There will be Floral Design, Horticulture and Photograph divisions. The floral and horticulture divisions will be judged by trained judges. The photos will be judged by the people attending the show. All divisions reflect a “Book Titles” theme. The show will also include plant, glove and bake sales, prizes from a benefit table, youth and special exhibits and a “Floral Design” Demonstration on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. by Tim Healey, floral designer who will use designs to portray popular story book titles.
