Thirty years ago, Paul Brock helped found the SWSC. He believed that soccer was more than just a game, but rather a way of promoting honesty, discipline and sportsmanship in young people as well as improving the social welfare of the Saratoga community.
This year’s two recipients embody these qualities both on and off the field and credit their time with SWSC as being integral to developing both their soccer skills and their good character. Cassie Blunt attributes her involvement with the Club over the past 10 years to learning commitment, sportsmanship, and compassion. Blunt will be attending Penn State in the fall.
Katie Powers attributes her love of soccer for inspiring her trip to Uganda, where she visited a small village to share her love of soccer. During this trip, she found that. “Soccer is a bridge across the borders, walls and boundaries that divide our world.”
Her 10 years with SWSC have prepared her well for college at Northeastern in the fall, both on and off the field, she said.
