The Americans avoided a possible Game 2 in part by a four-run fifth inning.
With the game tied at nine, Brendan Joyce came through with his second two-RBI double of the game for eventual game winning runs. Joyce, who finished the day 4-for-4, was later knocked in by Connor Hart’s single to left.
Mechanicville had tied the game at nine a piece with Joshua Germain’s RBI single shortly after Timmy Buchal’s RBI double knocked in Tyler Tessero.
Tessero and Jimmy Buchal both added a double for Mechancville in the loss.
The winning pitcher, out of the bullpen, for Saratoga was Daniel Vitello.
The Saratoga Americans advance to the Section III double-elimination tournament, where they will have to play on the road against the District 16 winner Sunday before hosting District 15 (Columbia County) the following Monday. If the team carries on its winning ways, the championship game is scheduled for July 18.
