HADLEY — Richard F. Garnet Sr., 84, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany.
He was born on April 6, 1930 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey to the late James Garnet and Phyllis Turner Garnet.
Richard served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1947-53 as a U.S. Navy Ship Fitter. Richard also served as a police officer and fireman in Mine Hill, New Jersey, and he owned and operated his own appliance repair business. More recently he worked at Sarcom Inc in Hadley.
He enjoyed woodworking, spending time with family and fishing.
Richard is survived by his wife, Shirley L. Garnet. He is the father of Richard F. Garnet Jr., and step-father to John Caligaris (Reta), and Christy Doyle. He is the grandfather of Zachary Garnet, Keegan Garnet, John Caligaris III, and Jenna Caligaris. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Robert, James, and Virgil.
