Arthur Crames

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Arthur J. Crames of Upper Saddle River, NJ and Galway, NY died peacefully surrounded by his family on June 16, 2015 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 80 years old. Born June 12, 1935 in the Bronx, he was the son of the late Milton Crames and Anna Tobias Crames.

Following high school, Mr. Crames went to work in the brokerage business, beginning a career that would last more than 60 years. Starting as a $38-a-week runner in 1954, he ultimately became a Managing Director at Bear Stearns and, most recently, Executive Director at JP Morgan Chase, where he was still working full time. In his early 20’s he also proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves, from 1957-1958.

Arthur married his loving wife of almost 50 years, Dale Denison Crames, on December 9, 1965.

Mr. Crames was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and the finest of friends. A humble benefactor, he uniquely personalized his philanthropy, meeting the needs of people and causes that touched his heart. He was a life-long patriot. He was a fabulous storyteller, a loyal NY sports fan, a lover of old movies, and an esteemed host … connecting and celebrating with friends and family over joyous dinners at his favorite haunts. He took great pride in his Bronx roots, his enduring Wall Street career and his rich network of cherished friends. He was a man of great character and impeccable reputation. Gracious. Authentic. Irreverent. A Rememberer.

Arthur was a generous supporter of innumerable organizations and individuals. Those dearest to his heart include The United States Marine Corps, The New York State Troopers, The Iona College Scholarship Fund for the children of fallen police and fire fighters, The Minority Athletic Networking Organization (MAN) and numerous animal rescue agencies, including The Saratoga County Animal Shelter.

In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by a brother, Charles Crames, and a sister, Florence Crames. Survivors include his wife, Dale, two daughters; Sharon (Alan Schwartz) and Amanda; a son, John (Lori Crames), and four grandchildren; Tyler, Nicholas, Elizabeth and Kellen.
