Saratoga County Court

Craig N. Ross, Jr., the 46-year-old Ballston Spa man who abducted a child last fall in Moreau pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court to felony kidnapping and felony predatory sexual assault against a child. The incident involves a child under the age of 13 who went missing Sept. 30 while on a bike ride in Moreau Lake State Park. An AMBER alert regarding the disappearance of the child was subsequently issued. The Oct. 2 arrest of Ross followed the discovery of a ransom note left in the family mailbox of the abducted child’s home, according to authorities. Fingerprints on the letter were entered into the New York State database and a match was made involving a DWI in 1999 in Saratoga Springs. The subsequent investigation led authorities to a camper where the child was located safe and in good health by state police, and Ross taken into custody, authorities said. Ross is expected to be sentenced in April. The prosecution has recommended Ross be sentenced to an aggregate term of 47-years-to-life for his actions.
