How Will You Challenge Yourself this Summer?

When a client says to me they don’t think they could ever do a 5K race, “I can’t run...”, and follows with something like, “It’s never been in me.”, I immediately take the challenge.  The challenge for me is to work with this client on all their limiting perceptions, and self defeating conversations within themselves...

Any thought that enters a persons mind that creates a barrier to reaching a goal, is an obstacle that can absolutely be overcome.  Our lives are based on our perceptions, and our perceptions are what create our character, so why are we not all walking around with uber-successful lives, having achieved all that we ever wanted, or sought out to gain?

It’s that inner voice in our head that, at one time or another in our lives, can trick us into a trap of limited abilities, and can in fact be debilitating if we choose to allow our minds to believe for extended periods of time.

Did you know that the body can handle an extensive amount of endurance, stamina, and even pain....much more so than we often give it credit for.  It is the mind that will provide a piece of perception that if we say and believe it’s true, becomes our reality.  So, for example, if you want to accomplish a marathon, triathlon, or even iron man race, and are physically able, it’s breaking achievements over and over and over, and each time striving to pass that next feat, that will get you to your goal.  If, on the other hand, you feel tired, and your mind is saying “I don’t know if I can go on 5 more miles, because I have never biked this distance before”, and you fall into the trap of belieivng that as your reality, then surely your mind will convince your muscle that you “don’t have it in you” to  excel to the next level.

So, that being said, how will you challenge yourself this summer?  If you have never run before,  a 5K is a great accomplishment, even if you need to partially walk the course.  You will cross the finish line and that is your goal.  The next time you sign up for a 5K, your goal can be to finish without walking, and the next time your goal could be to beat your running time.  Once you have that under your belt, you are on your way to overcoming every self defeating behavior and perception you have been wasting years of your life telling yourself something that just isn’t true.....So, what are you waiting for?  Sign up today, change your life forever, AND help a good cause....!!!!!!  One of my favorites this year will be Saratoga Springs 9/11 Heroes Run...for the Travis Manion Foundation...
