Ballston Spa man Arrested for Stealing over $700,000 in Medicaid Fraud.
A Ballston Spa man has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $700,000 from New York’s Medicaid Office over a period of four years.
Rohan Crosdale, 40, of Ballston Spa was arraigned in Saratoga County Court on Oct. 23 on charges of felony prohibited practices- amount over $7,500, felony 3rd degree grand larceny, and two counts of 2nd degree grand larceny: property value exceeds $50,000.
According to a statement issued by the District Attorney’s Office, Crosdale is alleged to have stolen $714,663.95 from Medicaid through his company Smart Choice Temp Agency Inc over a four-year period. The release said that Crosdale was the sole owner of Smart Choice Temp Agency and that it had enrolled as a Medicaid service provider in February 2020.
Crosdale is alleged to have committed the fraud by billing Medicaid for fraudulent medical transport rides using “various schemes” which included rides that didn’t occur.
The investigation was conducted by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office, Office of the New York State Comptroller, and New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General.
“Rohan Crosdale allegedly tried to siphon off over $700,000 in Medicaid dollars for his own purposes, enriching himself at the expense of taxpayers,” New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said in the statement. “Medicaid provides vital services for millions of New Yorkers, and I will continue to work with law enforcement across the state to safeguard it from fraud, waste and abuse. I thank District Attorney Eby, Sheriff Brown and Medicaid Inspector General Walsh for their partnership in this investigation.”
In May 2024, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Comptroller’s Office for assistance in the investigation and a subsequent forensic audit uncovered the fraud. Court records state the date of the incident as January 1, 2021.
“The arrest of Mr. Crosdale, who has been accused of stealing taxpayer dollars by fraud, represents an excellent example of state and county law enforcement working together to combat this fraudulent behavior,” Saratoga County Sheriff Jeffrey Brown said. “I would like to commend the work of Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Anthony Pirrone, the Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office along with the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General and the State Comptroller’s investigative teams, who worked hard to bring this investigation to a conclusion.”
Crosdale was arraigned on Oct. 23 and has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is next due back in court on Nov. 5
