2021 Mother-Lovin’ Virtual 5K Run/Walk
Virtual Event, Friday through Sunday

Kelly’s Angels is adapting to these unprecedented times by making our annual Mother-Lovin 5k a virtual event! Please join us, virtually, and continue our Mother’s Day tradition to help children and families who are battling cancer and other life-threatening illness, including COVID-19. Participants will run or walk sometime on Mother’s Day weekend in their neighborhoods, on their treadmills or any safe place of their choosing. They’ll be provided a race bib via email that they can post to social media or print and wear at the time they choose to run or walk. We’ll be running at a distance for a cause that brings us together. Cost is $10 per participant. Grab a selfie and send us your photo for the Mother-Lovin’ Photo Gallery! World Migratory Bird Day – Dionondehowa will offer its annual Bird Walk guided by bird enthusiast Nat Parke. Horse Tack Swap Meet
Washington County Fairgrounds, 392 Old Schuylerville Rd., Greenwich | 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Thoughout the day, demonstrations on equine care and equine-related events presented by the Washington County Draft Animal Association and the Tri-State Liberty Club will be happening on the grounds. Businesses and Non-Profits with equine-related business and services are welcome to apply for booth space as well. Booth Spaces are $10. for a 10×10 booth – set up a table or bring your horse trailer or truck to display your items for sale. Booth sign-ups are available on the Washington County Fairground website or by calling the Fairgrounds at 518-692-2464. 

Take a Walk in the Park – with History

Join Ballston Town Historian Rick Reynolds for an historic walking tour of the park. We will travel back in time to visit the sites of the homes of prominent Town of Ballston residents over the last 200 years. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for this two-mile tour. Mother’s Day Flower Basket Sale

2021 Historic Homes Tour
Online Via Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation | Saturday and Sunday

This year’s tour promises to give you the exclusive opportunity to see interiors of beautiful private homes and buildings, including spaces that typically are not accessible during an in-person tour. The tour will be available throughout the weekend allowing you to view these special spaces whenever you want in the comfort of your own home! Several homes in the North Broadway neighborhood will be featured this year – 605 North Broadway, including the Coach House; 748 North Broadway; and 199 Woodlawn Avenue.  The tradition of including a “Rehab-in-Progress” continues this year with 687 North Broadway, the former Masonic Lodge. Mental Health Awareness Month

Dr. Benita Zahn is hosting a panel discussion featuring regional healthcare experts from aptihealth, CDPHP, and Five Corners Family Practice to offer tips and support for emotional health and wellness for parents, teachers, and anyone else who would like to join. The event is free for registered participants. During the month of May, as we recognize the importance of mental health and the need to continue to increase access to care, health experts are coming together to discuss how to recognize signs of anxiety, burnout, or depression. The expert panel will discuss how to address these challenges, including self-care and coping strategies, and share tools available to our local communities to help improve our mental and physical health, including quick access to comprehensive online mental healthcare covered by insurance. Learn to Make an Indian Feast: Gujarati Thali

Explore the exotic cuisine of Gujarat, a state in Northwestern India famous for its rich cultural heritage, especially dance (Garba and dandiya raas) and food. In this class, we will teach you the skills to create a typical Gujarati Thali (plate) that is a daily staple in Gujarati homes. A typical Thali consists of roti (bread), dal (lentils), shaak (vegetables), and rice. For this class, we will make Gujarati Toor Dal (pigeon peas), rotis (flat bread) and basmati rice. Sustainable Saratoga’s Tree Toga
Sustainable Saratoga’s Urban Forestry Project is celebrating our community’s resilience and hope for the future by putting trees in the ground at the homes of 15 excited Saratogian families, totaling 270 tree plantings since 2014. This year teams of planters will gather at each planting location, getting those trees into the ground, to be nurtured and cared for by the homeowners whose yards will host the trees. The care that Tree Hosts provide is critical to tree survival and the success of Sustainable Saratoga’s mission to preserve and expand Saratoga’s urban forest. Spring is a great time to plant your own tree. So why not join Tree Toga in spirit by planting one in your own yard, and sharing a picture of your new tree at #NextGenTree? Sustainable Saratoga recommends planting a variety of trees native to our local forests, as well as a few of those from the wider region, that are adapted to our soils and climate and provide food and shelter for a variety of insects and wildlife. Covid 19 & Caregivers: Finding Hope from What We’ve Learned

It’s tough to look for silver linings in the COVID-19 pandemic, but our resilience and ingenuity during this crisis has opened new channels of thinking and practice when it comes to caring for people with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. Join us for a brief Alzheimer’s disease overview followed by a panel discussion with local health experts and caregivers, as we explore how what we’ve learned during the pandemic will influence caregivers for years to come. Alaska, the Last Frontier

Join nature photographer, Peter Benoit, for a photographic journey through the natural wonder of American’s 49th state. Peter travelled to Alaska twice in recent years. His 2016 trip included a plane flight that landed on a glacier below the summit of Denali, the highest peak in North America. In 2018, he traveled by helicopter to Chinitna bay on the shores of Lake Clark National Park to photograph grizzly bears feeding on salmon. Peter Benoit is based in Queensbury, NY. The quilt blocks are in and they’re spectacular!  Come see the magnificent blocks produced by our quilting friends from Plattsburg to North Carolina, and vote for your favorite.  This year’s theme, “Adirondack Mask-erade”, was chosen to represent our resilience to the pandemic. The public is invited to join us at a wine, cheese and hors d’oeuvre reception for our quilters the next day from 3 – 6 p.m. with a chance to vote. Tang at Home Studio: Living Landforms 
The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, Zoom | 11 a.m.
We will gather on Zoom to discuss our ideas about the artwork, engage in an art-making activity, and share our creations. This week, we explore Syd Carpenter’s sculpture Ellis and Anna Mae Thomas, on view in the exhibition Never Done: 100 Years of Women in Politics and Beyond. Carpenter, who is also a gardener, explores the histories of African American farmers and her own family’s history of farming in her sculptures to honor their untold legacies. We will look at how Carpenter “breathes life” into her sculpture as a metaphor for the living earth, and then create our own 3-D topographical maps with recycled materials found around the house. To ensure a fun sharing environment, registration is required. The live Saturday sessions are best suited for kids ages 5-12 and their adult companions, but everyone is welcome!

Thomas Walks for CP – A virtual walk for Cerebral Palsy. Supporters are asked to join the Thomas Walks for CP Facebook event page, and walk 3.2 miles throughout the month of March, in honor of Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day. Anyone who wishes to donate, may do so as well through the event page, with proceeds going to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation. Take a Bite Out of History: From Saratoga Chip to Potato Chip

Tang at Home Studio gives kids and their families the chance to explore their creativity, make new things, and share their artwork with peers. We’ll explore Nina Chanel Abney’s eye-catching work Whet, on view in the exhibition Never Done: 100 Years of Women in Politics and Beyond. Using spray paint and vinyl stencils, Abney explores race and identity through colors, figures, text, abstract imagery, and symbols taken from the internet, social media, and popular culture. We will create our own colorful collaged artworks that reflect our view of a world full of powerful, positive, and inclusive messages.
