Bike Donations and Volunteers Needed

Please consider donating unwanted bicycles with tires over 20″ that are in fixable condition! Also, we are in constant need of bikes with tires 24″ and over, any style. We’re happy to fix them up!  Not sure if your bike is in fixable condition – send us a pic and we’ll let you know. We need your help – despite closing several times for our volunteer mechanics to catch up, we are still way behind and could use your help. Saratoga Soroptimist Secret Gardens Tour

Eleven unique gardens in Saratoga Springs, Ballston Spa, and Wilton are featured on the 29th annual Saratoga Soroptimist Secret Gardens Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 14. Purchase $25 advance tickets at www.soroptimistsaratoga.org or at Northshire Bookstore, Cudney’s Cleaners, Faddegon’s Nursery or Adirondack Trust Co. branches. Day-of tickets for $30 will be sold while supplies last from 9:30 a.m. to noon outside the Saratoga Springs Visitor Center, 297 Broadway. Garden descriptions and suggested driving directions are provided with purchase. The tour supports programs and individuals benefiting women and girls, including Wellspring. Questions? Gumbo with Kendrick for TRF

The Principessa Elena Society located at 13 Oak Street, Saratoga Springs, will host its fourth annual “Gumbo with Kendrick for TRF’’ party on Monday, July 15 from 6 – 9 p.m. Louisiana native and jockey Kendrick Carmouche will again prepare gumbo for this event, which will benefit the Saratoga Springs-based Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF), a 501(c) (3) non-profit that is the nation’s oldest and largest Thoroughbred rescue and sanctuary organization. Pitney Meadows Fire Feast

Pitney Meadows Community Farm’s signature farm-to-table event, Fire Feast, returns. Saratoga’s most unique summer event features local chefs cooking over six open-fire pits. The chefs will source meat, fish, cheese, wine, beer, and produce from local producers and Pitney Meadows’ farm fields. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided by Bars without Boundaries. Guests can also enjoy drinks from select local breweries, distilleries, and wineries. Seasonal cocktails and mocktails will be available as well. Southern Saratoga Art Society Exhibits

2 Locations in Saratoga County | Artists and members of SSAS are exhibiting their work. Clifton Park Senior Community Center, 6 Clifton Common Blvd., Clifton Park, is hosting a show in The Gallery for the month of July featuring artists and SSAS members Fran Cullen, Denise Kornak, Lynne Kaiser and Carol Winterton.  Mechanicville Library, 190 N. Main Street, Mechanicville, will show the artwork of SSAS member and artist Rita Helie.  Visit these shows and support the arts in Southern Saratoga County.  For more information about, visit:  southernsaratogaartist.com. 

Photography Exhibit

Clifton Park Halfmoon Public Library, 475 Moe Rd., Clifton Park | A new exhibition by nature photographer Louis Valenti titled, Saratoga Wildlife: Photographic Images of Saratoga’s Most Wonderful Creatures, featuring stunning wildlife photographs that capture both the unique beauty and the spirit of Saratoga’s wonderful creatures. They will be on display through July 31. The event will be open to the public free of charge daily. Saratoga Arts made this program possible through the Art in Public Places program. Middle Grove Town Park, 430 Middle Grove Road, Middle Grove | 8 – 11 a.m. The Town of Greenfield Lions Club are hosting a Event is Free and is open to any car or truck, including daily drivers. There will be a 50-50 raffle and door prizes for entered vehicles. This event is being sponsored by Ryan’s Garage. The Greenfield Lions will be selling fresh breakfast sandwiches and coffee. The public is invited to check out the vehicles.

Grand, Gilded and Glorious: A Saratoga Stroll

Saratoga Heritage Area Visitor Center, 297 Broadway, Saratoga Springs | 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Every Tuesday – Saturday July – October. Tours run rain or shine. This 90 minute guided walking tour will entertain and enlighten both visitors and residents with the famed stories of this great city. Saratoga Springs was the playground of the rich and famous during the 1800’s and provides the stories of this wonderful, gilded period in our history. Cost is $20 per person (children 12 and under are free). The tour begins at the Visitor Center and ends at the Canfield Casino. Family Saturday

Tang Museum, Skidmore College, 815 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs | 2 to 3:30 p.m.  Our popular Family Saturdays foster multigenerational creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging in a hands-on art-making activity. The programs (, are free and open to the public. They are suitable for children ages 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions. No registration required; supplies provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Led by Njeri Jennings, the Laurie M. Tisch Educator for K-12 and Community Programs at the Tang Teaching Museum, the programs are inspired by current exhibitions and art from the Tang collection. Next family Saturday is August 3.

Summer Sunday Stroll

Meet: NW corner of Division St. and Railroad Place, Saratoga Springs | 10:30 a.m. Wealth & Wellness: Franklin Square. Carrie Woerner, NYS Assemblywoman and former SSPF Executive Director, will lead a tour through the architecturally rich historic Franklin Square area. Saratoga Summer Concert Series: Nocturne Troubadours

Upbeat on the Roof Summer Concert Series

The Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College, 815 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs | 6 p.m.  Future of Broadway — Contemporary showtunes from works-in-progress, presented in conjunction with The Orchard Project.  Before each concert, educators will offer Crafts on the Grass: art-making kits for kids starting at 5:30 p.m. All projects are suitable for children aged 5 and up, with adult supervision. Materials will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. The Tang galleries will be open before and after the concerts. In the case of inclement weather, the art-making activities and concerts will be held inside. Admission is free. Tween / Teen Advisory Group (TAG)

Ballston Spa Public Library, 21 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa | 6 – 7 p.m. TAG gives middle and high school students the opportunity to develop leadership skills, brainstorm and help execute imaginative programs and recommend purchases for the library. The goal of the program is to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for tweens and teens to have recreational opportunities as well as social and emotional support. Students should expect a meeting, snacks and activity. In addition, participants will receive community service for each session they attend. Registration is required for this group, limit 20. Town of Milton’s 250th Revolutionary War Committee Ceremony

Grenell Cemetery, Grenell Road, Milton | 11a.m. Commemorating a sign honoring veterans of the Revolutionary War. Summer Sunday Stroll of Saratoga’s Historic West Side

Meet: Entrance of Gideon Putnam Burying Ground, South Franklin St., Saratoga Springs | 10:30 a.m. George Demers will lead guests through the diverse historic west side neighborhood where Saratoga Springs’ Irish and Italian immigrants and Black community lived. The tour will highlight the settlement of this neighborhood, its rebirth as an arts district, and the rehabilitations that took place in the early 2000s. In addition to highlighting the historic architecture of this area, George will discuss the history of its residents, restaurants, stores, and clubs as well as the impacts of Urban Renewal and revitalization efforts.

Opera Saratoga Free Family Show

Universal Preservation Hall, 25 Washington St., Saratoga Springs | 11 a.m. – Noon. Favorite scenes and songs from GUYS AND DOLLS and COSI FAN TUTTE performed by Festival Artists.  With a sensory-friendly area and space to run around, children belong at Opera Saratoga.  This performance is free. 

Please support your community by bringing non-perishable food items or hygiene products (shampoo, deodorant, laundry soap, feminine hygiene, etc…) These will be delivered to the Franklin Community Center for distribution to families in need. Every contribution counts in making a positive difference.

Poetry Reading

Caffè Lena, 47 Phila St., Saratoga Springs | 7 p.m. Caffè Lena will present a poetry reading by Roger Mitchell. An open mic poetry reading will follow. Saratoga Wilton Flag Day Parade / Bikeatoga

Meet: 2nd Street, between N. Broadway and Bryan St., Saratoga Springs |  4:30 p.m. This will be the inaugural parade for the Bikeatoga Bicycle Battalion, and we are excited to be sponsoring this Flag Day riding group, making it inclusive to all cyclists. All people with a bike, young and old, large or small bike. e-bike or Pedal powered and anything in between are invited to show your patriotic colors when you decorate your bike and self for the Saratoga Elks Flag Day Parade.  There are plenty of colorful items to decorate your bike with at the Dollar Tree. Meet up so we can mix and mingle with other bikers, swap cycling stories and touch up on the bikes. The Bikeatoga Bicycle Brigade will be stepping out shortly after 5 p.m. And riding in front of Santa Claus. This event is FREE and open to the entire cycling community.”

Tea and Talk: Here Comes the Bride 

Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway | 3 p.m. An adult program. The speaker is Anne Clothier, Brookside Museum Education Director. She will talk about marriage customs and wedding-related stories from Saratoga County history and show a collection of wedding gowns from the museum. Please bring family wedding photos, mementos, and stories to share. Tea and light refreshments will be served. Registration is requested at 518-882-6385.

Writing with the Land: Poetry Workshop 

Pitney Meadows Community Farm, 223 West Ave., Saratoga Springs | 6 – 7 p.m. 16 yrs. old+ Workshop with Ndakinna Educational Center. Saratoga Springs’ first poet laureate, Joseph Bruchac, will immerse participants in the inspiring natural environment of Pitney Meadows. This adult workshop is tailored to accommodate varying levels of literary experience. Participants will explore various poetic forms, including free verse, haiku, and more, drawing inspiration from the ever-changing seasons and the farm’s breathtaking landscape. Each participant will leave a work of poetry inspired by our land.

Yoga Among the Wildflowers

Pitney Meadows Community Farm, 223 West Ave., Saratoga Springs | 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. Weekly Drop-In Yoga Flow on the Farm with Sara Martin, every Saturday. This is an “all level” vinyasa class that is filled with inspiration and great music. There is a luxurious warm up, some faster paced vinyasa movement, a cool down, savasana, and typically closes with a visualization that will help you take the bliss and inspiration with you. Open and free to the public, donations accepted. Beginners are welcome and encouraged! Extra mats are available.

Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Ave., Ballston Spa| 10 – 3 p.m. The Saratoga County History Center is thrilled to invite the public to the 5th Annual Craft and Antique Fair. Guests will be able to shop from over 50 vendors with a wide variety of locally handcrafted collectibles, gifts, antiques, farm products, food and much more! This is a terrific opportunity for New Yorkers to sample, appreciate, and support the best of upstate artisans, farmers, and culinarians. The event is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine. 

Saratoga Farm Showcase

Various locations | 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saratoga PLAN announces its inaugural Saratoga County Farm Showcase. A self-guided farm tour celebrating local farms and emphasizing the importance of protecting agricultural land in Saratoga County. Author Addresses Caregiver Challenges

Watercolor Demonstration

Saratoga Springs Booster Club Field Hockey Camp

Town of Milton’s 250th Revolutionary War Committee Ceremony

This event, taking place on June 29 at 11a.m., is to commemorate a sign honoring veterans of the Revolutionary War at Grenell Cemetery on Grenell Road.  The Saratoga Springs Booster Club will be hosting its annual field hockey camp beginning on June 24 and ending on June 28 at Saratoga High School from 8 – 11 a.m. each day (except Monday- 5 -8 p.m.) on the turf.  The program is open to grades third through twelfth. No experience needed.   The camp includes extensive individual instruction along with daily participation in game situations.  The goal is to teach the fundamentals of field hockey, while ensuring that each player leaves the camp with a new appreciation for the game.  The camp brochure can be downloaded from the Booster Club’s website at www. Town of Milton’s 250th Revolutionary War Committee Ceremony

This event, taking place on June 29 at 11a.m., is to commemorate a sign honoring veterans of the Revolutionary War at Grenell Cemetery on Grenell Road. “Children of Peace” Documentary

Temple Sinai, 509 Broadway, Saratoga Springs | 7 p.m. Israeli Director Maayan Schwarz will join us for a discussion after the film. Maayan and his family grew up in Israel in the only community in the world where Palestinians and Israelis have chosen to live together. The village is called Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam, “oasis of peace,” a social experiment that became reality. The film explores the lives of children who grew up as best friends – but as adults, became aware of and lived with the daily, ongoing conflict around them between Israelis and Palestinians. Genealogy and Local History

Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St., Schuylerville | 1 p.m. Join Heritage Hunters and Joseph W. Zarzynski, a maritime archaeologist from Wilton and a former Social Studies teacher in the Saratoga Springs School District, who will be the speaker. He will tell the story of the 44 ft. long British warship that had been burned and then sank into Lake George during a 1757 French raid upon Fort William Henry. In 1903 it was raised and unceremoniously cut up for souvenirs. Zarzynski will examine its history, with photographs and the story of surviving and repurposed artifacts. The public is welcome. The 20th Annual Team Billy Ride and Walk for Research

Four Seasons Lodge Panel Discussion

Zoom Program | 7 p.m. Saratoga Jewish Community Arts and the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York present a panel discussion of the documentary Four Seasons Lodge. The 2008 film grew out of a series of articles by Andrew Jacobs, a reporter for The New York Times and a novice director who was imaginative enough to enlist the help of the outstanding cinematographer Albert Maysles. A Veteran Speaks: Oscar Kemp of the 115th NY and the Grand Army

What happened to the survivors? What were their stories and how did they transition back into civilian life? Ben’s Bed: Recreating a Resting Place Fit for a General

Saratoga National Historical Park, Visitor Center, 648 Route 32, Stillwater | 6 p.m. Recent significant changes to the furnishings of the Neilson House were made to better reflect its appearance in the fall of 1777. It was determined that a folding camp bed was the perfect choice to represent the presence of General Benedict Arnold in his divisional headquarters. Support was offered by donors and the Friends of Saratoga Battlefield, and the process of finding craftspeople who could replicate the techniques and skill of their 18th century counterparts in recreating such a bed began. Join us to discover from the people involved how this project progressed from the archives to the workshop to the Neilson House! First Friday

Downtown Ballston Spa | 4 – 7 p.m. Downtown Ballston Spa will come alive with the sights and sounds of local art displays and activities. The event is a collaboration between the BSBPA and the Ballston Spa Central School District. Visitors can expect to see artwork created by local students from pre-K to high school, on display in participating businesses throughout the downtown area. The Malta Ave Elementary School Odyssey of the Mind team will be holding an ice cream fundraiser in Wiswall Park from 4:30-7 p.m., with all proceeds going towards their trip to World Finals in Ames, Iowa at the end of May. The Third Annual Women in War Symposium

Old Saratoga American Legion Post, 6 Clancy St. Schuylerville | 8:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The Women in War Symposium features dynamic speakers who will present on topics related to the roles women played during the American Revolution. Whether patriot or loyalist, wealthy or impoverished, females were deeply affected by the war in all aspects of their lives. Additionally, exhibitors, book-signings, augmented reality demonstrations and more will be on display throughout the day. A Bus Tour of Historic Sites follows on Sunday, May 5 at 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Departing from the Saratoga National Historical Park Visitor Center, a curated tour with returning expert guide Pat Niles highlighting several lesser-known stories of women in the Saratoga Campaign. Introduction to Composting

Messages From Survivors: One Family’s Holocaust Legacy 

Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway | 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. A powerful new traveling exhibit about the Holocaust, survival, resiliency, and the importance of family and remembering during the month of May, which will include a presentation of “Dance: A Morale Booster.”  Hosted by the library working in partnership with The Memory Project Productions, Inc. and the Southern Adirondack Library System (SALS).  The library will also host related programs, activities, and displays during the month designed to educate and to spark conversation about the time period.

New Exhibits Opening Reception

Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Ave., Ballston Spa | 2-4 p.m. The Saratoga County History Center will officially open three new exhibits for the 2024 season to complement our main exhibit, Saratoga County our Home which opened in 2023. Brookside Through the Years in the front hallway examines the people and businesses that have called Brookside home throughout its 232-year history. In the Long Room gallery, visitors can explore images of Broadway storefronts from Saratoga Springs in the late 1860s and discover the history of the early entrepreneurs and which modern businesses are housed in the surviving buildings.  Another new exhibit, Unmentionables, invites visitors to consider the history of undergarments and displays petticoats, hoop skirts, shirts, stockings, bustles, and corsets from the museum’s extensive textile collection.

Celebrate with Music

Saratoga United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Ave., Saratoga Springs | 3 p.m. Saratoga Chamber Players will honor the late Peter Schickele (1936-2024).  Schickele, known for his showmanship, his PDQ Bach recordings, but also for his serious compositions, wrote a rarely heard sextet to be performed by violinists Jill Levy and Lily Holgate, violists Sarah Adams and Caeli Smith, and cellists Eric Bartlett and Ashley Bathgate.  Also on the program are Haydn’s String Quartet in G Major, Op.33, no. 5 and Brahms’ Sextet in G Major, Op. 26, no.2. We will have a brief business meeting at 7 p.m., followed by this month’s program on the history of Wolf Hollow by Michael Diana, Programs Manager, Historian and Director of Education for the Schenectady County Historical Society and the Mabee Farm Historic Site. This place once played host to a decisive battle that would change the course of local history.  Michael’s presentation will untangle the legends from the history of the enigmatic Wolf Hollow.  Our programs are always open to the public, free of charge.  If you choose, annual family or household memberships are available for $10 per year.

2024 Public History Award Celebration
