Defensive Driving Class

Winter Craft Fair

Camp Saratoga 8K Snowshoe Race

Unicorn Party & Story Time

Join author/illustrator Jason Tharp and Northshire’s Children’s Booksellers for a Unicorn Party in celebration of Tharp’s fantastic new picture book! Left for Dead on Slaughter’s Field
New York State Military Museum, 61 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs | 2 p.m.

The 177th New York Volunteers at Port Hudson in the Civil War. Using rare historic photographs and the recently discovered diary of Pvt. William Henry Harrison Freligh, a 21-year old soldier from rural Albany County, retired National Guard officer and historian Pat Chaisson explores the little-known Civil War battle of Port Hudson.

First Annual Full Moon Party
Brookhaven Golf Course, 333 Alpine Meadows Rd., Porters Corner | 6 p.m. 

Ski, snowshoe or walk the lighted path to a bonfire. Refreshments will be available. Tickets are available at Greenfield Town Hall or at the event. Cost is $10 per person. Limited quantity. After the fire, head on over to the Full Course Restaurant and enjoy live music by Vinyl Evolution. The proceeds will go to Greenfields Old Friends at Cabin Creek racehorse respite and the Nordic Fund to maintain our free groomed trails. Ballston Area Senior Monthly Dance

Pajama Party Fundraiser for Pediatric Oncology

Frostbite Friday
Beekman Street Arts District: Grand Ave. to Oak St., Saratoga Springs | 5 – 8 p.m.
Visiting artists, refreshments, art/craft demonstrations. Visit the Arts District on this mid-winter night as participating shops, galleries, and restaurants host our second Frostbite Friday event.  Taking place the night before Chowderfest, our event will serve as a fun kickoff for your weekend in Saratoga. Visiting artists and music will fill the galleries, and merchants will be offering warm beverages and treats. Warm yourself at the firepits in various locations and roast marshmallows. This will be a fun way to celebrate the start of a festive winter weekend in Saratoga. Weather permitting.

Help the Knights continue their charitable work in the community. As always throughout the year, Joe Fredette and Frank Bunch cook and deliver a delicious meal every Thursday for the men and women’s veteran’s homes in Ballston Spa. Additionally, on Thursdays during the cold months, they cook for Code Blue. And, if you are one of the many who attend the ChowderFest each year, don’t forget to visit Joe and Frank outside the City Center on Ellsworth Jones Place on February 1st. Chowderfest 
Downtown Saratoga Springs | 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Join us for a day of live music, family-friendly activities and, of course, a wide variety of chowders. Come enjoy samples of chowder from local restaurants. Once you taste them all, you can vote for your favorite. Part of Winterfest, Chowderfest is one of the area’s most highly anticipated events of the year and the perfect activity for a cold winter’s day. Stroll through downtown Saratoga and purchase a $1 cup (3 oz. serving) of chowder from as many participating establishments as you’d like. Some restaurants will be offering classic varieties, while some may be serving original, unique concoctions. Traditionally, over 80 vendors participate, including Saratoga County’s best restaurants and caterers. Chowderfest is organized by the Saratoga Convention & Tourism Bureau. Family Sensory Story, Dance & Play Series

Strength Training for Runners Clinic

Participants will learn how to fit carbohydrates into a healthy menu, effectively use food labels, choose meals at a restaurant and adopt other healthy habits to help manage diabetes through healthy eating. Genealogy and Local History

Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County will sponsor program speaker Don Rittner, author and historian. Don is writing a book on the daily life of children at the Troy Orphan Asylum. The orphanage, a respite for desperate families, started in 1833 and functioned for well over a century. In 1942, it was renamed Vanderheyden and the focus evolved into supporting and educating young people who are faced with various life challenges. Public is welcome. Annual Food Drive

The Saratoga Springs Lions Club is holding their annual “Because Hunger Doesn’t End with the Holidays” Food Drive. The club will be collecting non-perishable food items to be donated to seven different food pantries. The collection locations will be at: Hannaford on Weibel Ave., Price Chopper on Railroad Pl., Market 32 on Ballston Ave. and Market 32 on Route 50, Wilton. Footwear for Proper Balance Workshop

At the end of the workshop, you will know what proper footwear really means for improved balance.

Parent University

Author and clinical psychologist Adelia Moore will present findings from her book “Being the Grownup: Love, Limits, and the Natural Authority of Parenthood.” The presentation will be followed by a book signing. If you are a parent, it is your job to provide shelter and safety, to make decisions about education, childcare, health and nourishment, and to create the habitat that is the context of family life. The book helps parents translate their determination to care for and protect their children into the clarity they need to communicate authority with a firm confidence, whether for bedtime, screen-time or mealtime.

Caring for Aging Parents

The average American is living longer than ever before, and as a result, adult children are transitioning into the role of primary caregiver for their aging parents. It can be a difficult time for both the caregiver and the care receiver, but Saratoga Hospital has the tools to help. Join Kevin Dooley, M.D., medical director of the Saratoga Hospital Inpatient Transition Program, for a community seminar on how to care for your aging parents. Dr. Dooley will address some of the social, financial, and personal challenges of being a caregiver, as well as the community resources available to you. He will also discuss Saratoga Hospital’s new Inpatient Transition Program, which is designed to ensure a successful transition back home after a stay in the hospital. Three Alaska National Parks 
Saratoga Springs Public Library, 49 Phila St., Saratoga Springs | 7 p.m.

Dave Pisaneschi and Don Berens recently traveled to three national parks in Alaska: Wrangell-St Elias, Kobuk Valley, and Gates of the Arctic. One is the biggest, another is the least visited, and the third has the northernmost sand dunes of any US national park. Don and David have both held offices in ADK and its chapters.  David is currently the vice chair of ADK’s Conservation Committee and an ADK adventure travel leader.  Both Don and David are ADK winter 46ers, have climbed the Catskill 3500 ft peaks, and completed the Northeast 115.  Don has visited the highpoint of each US state and is an avid cyclist as well.  David is a paddler.  Both have hiked in mountain ranges of other continents and have visited Alaska multiple times. Come see pictures of their often roadless, often arctic, always spectacular hiking and camping adventure. This event is free.

Free Ice Skating
Empire State Plaza Ice Rink, Empire State Plaza, Albany | Noon – 8 p.m.
Located in the shadow of Albany’s majestic State Capitol, amenities include lockers, skate rentals, and refreshments. Rentals are available whenever the rink is open and cost $3 for children 12 and under and $4 for adults. A photo ID is required to rent skates. Every Saturday is Free Skate Rental Saturday courtesy of Hannaford Supermarkets. The 2019-20 season will feature an assorted line-up of special events including instructional clinics! The rink closes for maintenance at certain times. Hours of operation: Monday through Friday Noon – 3:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday Noon – 2 p.m., 3 – 5 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. The Ice Rink will stay open until March 15, weather permitting.
