Color Pop!

The Schacht Gallery, 167 Hayes Rd., Schuylerville. | 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. and by appointment.  Saratoga Clay Arts Center is pleased to present COLOR POP!, a national juried exhibition of 60 functional and decorative works by 42 clay artists. Chapter CR of Saratoga Springs. P.E.O. provides educational opportunities for women. We do this by offering scholarships, grants, awards, and loans to help women enhance their lives through learning. 9th Annual Swap Meet of The Antique Outboard Motor Club

The event includes the buying, selling, and trading of antique and classic outboard motors, boats, and related items from attendees/vendors. The public is welcome. Volunteer Tree Planters Needed 

Pitney Meadows Community Farm, 223 West Ave., Saratoga Springs | 9:30 a.m. Help plant trees in the community. Sustainable Saratoga’s Urban Forestry Project will hold its 10th year of TREE TOGA planting event, adding an expected 35 large-growing shade trees to the urban forest. Volunteer Tree Planters get a lesson in tree planting before heading off in small teams. Once the trees are in the ground, Tree Host homeowners and other volunteers provide the care that is critical to tree survival and the success of Sustainable Saratoga’s mission to preserve and expand Saratoga’s urban forest. Northeastern Woodworkers Open House

NWA Herm Finkbeiner Learning Center, 97 Railroad Ave., Albany | 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Celebrate Arber Day by Joining NWA at the open house. Long after a tree comes down it continues to protect our environment and enrich our lives. Several years ago, one of those trees, a black walnut, which was planted by then Union College President Eliphalet Nott (1805-1866), sustained serious damage. Logs from that tree found their way to the Northeastern Woodworkers Association (NWA). Members milled and dried that log. Six months ago, using lumber from the 200-year-old tree, club members began construction of two trestle legged, live-edged tables. Both tables will be on display at the open house. Kentucky Derby Preview Panel and Book and Memorabilia Sale

The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, 191 Union Ave., Saratoga Springs | 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Admission to the program and book sale is free. The Kentucky Derby program will begin at noon in the Hall of Fame. Additionally, the Museum Gift Shop will be offering 15 percent off all new books throughout the day. All proceeds from the sale will directly support the Museum’s John A. Morris Research Library.

Free Narcan Training 

Halfmoon Town Hall, 2 Halfmoon Town Plaza, Halfmoon | 4 – 6 p.m. The Town of Halfmoon in collaboration with the Saratoga County Department of Health and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office to offer a free lifesaving Narcan Training session. Participants in the free training will learn to identify signs of an opioid overdose and safely administer Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, a nasal spray that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Masters of the Air: An Evening with Donald L. Miller

Miller,” the acclaimed historian and bestselling author of Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany. The inspiration behind the major Apple TV streaming series Masters of the Air, the book tells the gripping story of the American Eighth Air Force in World War II and the young pilots who flew the bombers that helped beat the Nazis and liberate Europe. Saratoga Naturally Photography Exhibit

“Impression” Opening Reception

The Jazz Ambassadors of the US Army Field Band is the official touring big band of the United States Army. The band’s diverse repertoire includes big band swing, bebop, Latin, contemporary jazz, standards, popular tunes, Dixieland, vocals, and patriotic selections. Vischer Ferry, A Forgotten Crossroads 

Vischer Ferry Firehouse, 360 Riverview Rd, Rexford | 7p.m. Video presentation of Vischer Ferry, A Forgotten Crossroads. The third in the Forgotten Crossroads series created by the History Center highlights Vischer Ferry, a quant village along the original path of the Erie Canal in the southern section of the Town of Clifton Park. The story is captured through interviews with three generations of residents, who shared their proud history and memories as well as their plans for the future.

Saipan: The Friction of War

Saratoga Town Hall at 12 Spring Street, Schuylerville | 7 p.m. The Old Saratoga Historical Association will host the multimedia presentation Led by World War II historian and retired US Army officer Patrick J. Chaisson. This discussion details one of the war’s most brutal and controversial battles. Saipan, located in the Mariana Islands of the Central Pacific, was an objective the Americans desperately needed to capture. Instead, it took six weeks of bloody, relentless fighting before Saipan’s Japanese defenders were defeated. This program is free to the public. Poetry/Storytelling Open Mic

Saratoga Senior Center, 290 West Avenue, Saratoga Springs | 1 p.m. The program will begin with a reading by local poet Lale Davidson followed by the open mic. Each open mic participant has five minutes to read two short poems or one long one. Storytellers have five minutes to tell, narrate or perform their piece. Underwater SeaPerch Robotics

Program: Ice Harvesting hosted by Tom Ragosta, President of the Watervliet Historical Society and Watervliet City Historian. Film:  Vischer Ferry, a Forgotten Crossroads

The film takes the audience through time, capturing each era of Vischer Ferry’s long history. Beginning with Native American occupation and the arrival of Dutch Families, the film’s focus on the Erie Canal is highlighted by a 1975 interview with John Wooden, the last lock tender along the local section of the canal. 31st Annual Northeastern Woodworkers Showcase

Medical Aid in Dying

It is legal in many states and will be voted on in NY in June. Educate yourself on this topic that affects not only those facing terminal diagnoses, but their families as well. The Rise and Fall of Ballston Spa as a Resort

Zoom presentation, 7 p.m. The Saratoga County History Center (SCHC) at Brookside Museum announces a virtual presentation by Theodore Corbett for the “Experts Next Door” series. After the Revolutionary War, the new nation’s earliest resorts were spas, following the tradition of those in England. Ballston Spa was one of the earliest and soon eclipsed its rivals in terms of springs, hotels, and amenities. New York City’s Nicholas Low was the most enterprising of the Spa’s developers. By the 1830s, however, Saratoga Springs’ resort had surpassed Ballston Spa, which continued, using its waterpower and railroad to establish the mills of the Industrial Revolution. The event is open to the public. It is free for SCHC members, and $5 for non-members. Pre-registration is required through the website www.brooksidemuseum.org.

New York’s maple season is fast approaching! To celebrate the season NYS Commissioner of Agriculture Richard Ball will be attending a ceremonial tree tapping. This annual event is hosted by the Upper Hudson Maple Producers Association. Fellow sugar makers and any who are interested are invited to attend. Community Torah Project: Making Parchment from a Local Deerskin

A hands-on educational workshop with Rabbi Linda Motzkin, the public is invited to take part in the Community Torah Project. Participants will help with the stretching and scraping of a local deerskin. This immersive educational activity will engage the Skidmore community and public in the sacred production of parchment, which will ultimately be used in the creation of a Torah scroll. Historian and Education Director at the Schoharie Crossing Historic Site David Brooks will present a talk on “DeWitt’s Duel”, exploring the life of DeWitt Clinton and the politics of early America and New York State. DeWitt Clinton was governor of New York State, a US Senator, and Mayor of New York City. He has been called the “Father of the Erie Canal” for his role in orchestrating the building of the Canal by some, while others called the project “Clinton’s Folly” or “Clinton’s Ditch”. David Brooks will explain how political wranglings and intrigue led to DeWitt’s Duel on the plains of Weehawken, New Jersey, across the river from New York City. Free and open to the public.

Celebrate a Bit of Irish

Master Martial Arts instructors John Borter and Trish Chiovari will demonstrate the Irish Martial Art of “Bataireacht,” or Shillelagh Fighting. The rich history and story of the blackthorn, the trees shillelaghs are traditionally made from, will be told by Christopher Shaw, who will also sing a few Irish songs and bend your ear with a story or two.
