6th-annual Adirondacon Tabletop Gaming Convention 🙂

2023 AFS Hearts for the Arts Festival

Autumn Stroll: Mail Order Houses of Saratoga

Meet at the Northwest Corner of Lake and East Avenues, Saratoga Springs |10:30 a.m. Madison Squires will highlight the “Kit House” era – a time when the average person could not only put a check through the mail, but order and receive an entire house as well. This tour features houses on East and Pinewood avenues. Tours last approximately 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours are limited to thirty and tickets should be purchased in advance. If additional tickets remain, they can be purchased the day of the tour at the meeting location. The cost per tour is $15 for SSPF members and $20 for non-members. Members with stroll passes need to contact the Foundation’s office to book their tour. Fall Rising Stars – Encanto Week 🙂

615 Maple Ave., Suite 3, Saratoga Springs | Saratoga Children’s Theatre most popular program now offered as a morning class during the school year. Ages 3 – 6, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (October 2, 4, and 6) from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. These stars-to-be will learn to explore their creativity through music, storytelling, movement, and art. Both fun and educational, we have created our Rising Stars program to provide a warm and nurturing environment, giving campers a wonderful introduction to the theatre arts. A small performance will take place at the end of each week. Cost is $95/week.

Galway Preservation Society Meeting

The program “Galway Fire Company” will be given by Kevin Barkley, former Galway Fire Chief.  This year the Galway Volunteer Fire Company celebrates their 100th anniversary, having been incorporated in 1923.  Please join us to hear more of our local history and the story of our Galway Volunteer Fire Company. The meeting will be held at the Galway Town Hall, 5910 Sacandaga Rd., Galway.  The meetings are always open to the public, free of charge.

The 26th Annual “Autumn Jewels” Judged Art Show 

Clifton Park Senior Community Center Gallery,  6 Clifton Common Blvd., Clifton Park. This show is sponsored by Southern Saratoga Art Society and is open to all area artists, from October 3 to October 30. Entries will be judged, and cash prizes awarded in both the fine arts and photography. Presentation: Katherine Flickinger Dockstader

Susan Dufel’s presentation on Katherine Flickinger Dockstader’s life, legacy and photography. “Kay,” one of the original “46er’s” and the first secretary of the local chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club, is the library’s October Featured Artist. An exhibit of her early black and white photos of the Adirondacks, taken beginning in the 1930s, is on loan from the Kelly Adirondack Center at Union College and may be viewed at the library during open hours.  More information about all library programs is found at www.galwaypubliclibrary.org.

Lecture: The Battle Over Israel’s Fragile Democracy

Skidmore College, Gannett Auditorium, Palamountain Hall | 7:30 p.m. In his public talk, Professor Avi Rubin will offer some observations on the judicial overhaul and its context from a socio-legal perspective. Saratoga Giant Pumpkinfest

2023 New York Invasive Species Expo

Autumn Sunday Stroll – “Wealth and Wellness: Franklin Square”

Caricature Demonstration

SSAS will be hosting a free “caricature demonstration” by artist Phil Singer, a professional caricature artist and considered one of the best in the area. He always draws a crowd at weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries, company picnics, colleges, and festivals. History Center Historian’s Tour – Waterford 1810-1880

Russ Vandervoort, Waterford Town Historian will lead a walking tour of downtown Waterford, describing local landmarks and influential residents who lived there in the mid-19th century Registration must be made in advance at brooksidemuseum.org/events/. A suggested donation of $10 per registration (individuals, couples, or families) will support the programs of the History Center and a not-for-profit organization chosen by the tour leaders. Specific directions and parking locations will be provided to registrants in advance of the tour dates.

After the Fire Monthly Meeting

After the Fire is a non-profit organization that helps Saratoga County Residents who have suffered a loss due to fire. Free Acrylic / Oil Painting Class

Galway Public Library, 2112 East St. Galway, presents a free class in acrylic and/or oil painting plus October 5 and October 12 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Tim LaFave teaches “Painting Fast and Loose” for ages 15 and up. Participants will supply their own materials for this 3-session class and will work from still life or from their own subjects. A Self-Guided Walking Tour 🙂

2 – 4 p.m. | Bacon Hill Cemetery Association proudly presents “A Self-Guided Walking Tour Honoring Local Families and Veterans” (rain date Sunday, September 17).  Please join us as our re-enactors and speakers share the history of many Bacon Hill families and veterans.  Admission is free but donations are accepted and appreciated as we strive to keep our cemetery preserved.  Parking is available at the church.

16th Annual Tasting on the Hudson

Noon – 1 p.m. | Hall of Fame jockeys Angel Cordero, Jr. and Ramon Dominguez will be signing autographs to benefit the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame this weekend. Cordero will be signing on Saturday, Aug. 26, while Dominguez will sign on Sunday, Aug. 27. Artist Greg Montgomery has produced exclusive limited-edition poster prints of Cordero and Dominguez for the signings. Each autographed poster is $20. Any additional items fans would like signed will also be $20 per autograph. Special Events – Elizabeth Huntley, Harpist 🙂

Elizabeth Huntley is one of the Capital District/Saratoga/ Lake George Region’s busiest musicians, showcasing the harp’s versatility by performing a wide variety of music. Ms. Huntley has played for the Irish Tenors, Garrison Keillor, Josh Groban, Bobby Vinton, Barry Manilow, Melissa Manchester, Johnny Mathis, Manhattan Transfer, and Roger Daltrey. She is the principal harpist with the Glens Falls Symphony and has played with the Skidmore College Orchestra, along with orchestras and opera companies from here to Boston to New York and places in between.

Saratoga Shooting Stars: Perseid Meteor Shower Watch Party 🙂

After the presentation, attendees will have time to watch the night sky for meteors. Under favorable night sky conditions, it is estimated that you can see around 100 meteors per hour. History Center Historian’s Tours

Round Lake. Village Historian Lance Spallholz and Scott Rigney will describe the community’s history which started in 1868 as a location for Methodist Camp meetings. The unique architecture of the village’s buildings will be on display. Registration must be made in advance at the History Center website  brooksidemuseum.org/events/. A suggested donation of $10 per registration (individuals, couples or families) will support the programs of the History Center and a not-for-profit organization chosen by the tour leaders. Artist Talk: David Dew Bruner

Zoom Discussion | 7 p.m. The Saratoga Jewish Cultural Festival, with a generous grant from the Jewish Federation of Northeastern NY and sponsored by Temple Sinai, presents a Zoom discussion of the 2017 film Marshall. The film tells the story of Thurgood Marshall before he became a Supreme Court Justice, arguing a case for a black man, Joseph Spell, accused of rape in 1940 Connecticut.
