UUCSS 12th Annual Plant Fair

Genealogy and Local History

Heritage Hunters will meet on Saturday, May 20, at 1 p.m. at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St. in Schuylerville. Daniel Mazeau, of Beverwyck Archaeology, will speak about an excavation he and partner Aaron Gore did on the Cohen-Ketzer property located in Bethlehem. The property owners were anxious to know whether evidence could be found of an occupation by a Revolutionary War veteran. Beverwyck Archaeology is a Cultural Resource Management Firm. Their website, beverwyckarchaeology.com, shows some of the work they’ve done, including their adventures in excavating a family burial vault. Public is welcome. For info call 518-885-9309.

Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Avenue, Ballston Spa

1 – 5 p.m. | Guests will go on an immersive, artifact-rich journey spanning four centuries of Saratoga life, business, and nature. From the First Nations who lived here before European settlement to the new tech-centered economy, “Saratoga County: Our Home!” offers guests a rich time-travel experience that will instill awe and respect for the county’s evolution. Introduction to Canning at Home

Grant Cottage Strategic Plan Public Meeting

The Friends of the Ulysses S. Grant Cottage Board of Trustees will discuss the plans for the future of Ulysses S. Grant Cottage State Historic Landmark. Mt. A Call to Duty: Saratoga County Veterans in WW2

7 – 8:30 p.m. | Former Albany-based Associated Press reporter Christopher Carola tells the stories of the many Saratoga County residents who served in the military during the Second World War. Using local archives, wartime articles from The Saratogian and his own interviews with WWII veterans, Carola talks about the experiences of dozens of men and women who answered their nation’s call to duty. This talk is in-person and is free, though donations are always appreciated.

2023 Historic Homes Tour

Greenfield Historical Society Monthly Meeting

Speaker will be Hal Raven owner and train conductor of Saratoga Corinth & Hudson Railway He will bring us up to date on the scenic train line now operating between the Corinth Railway Station and Lamothe Landing in Greenfield Center. Hal will discuss the railway’s involvement and train schedule for our August 12 Caboose Day. We’ll learn about the history of the train and the rail line. All are welcome to the meeting.

Saratoga National Golf Course, 458 Union Ave. Saratoga Springs | 5:30 – 9 p.m. The Shaken & Stirred Celebrity Bartender Party is an annual fundraiser for Universal Preservation Hall. Local businesses team up to compete against each other, bartending for the most tips. The team that raises the most during their shift wins. All proceeds raised go towards our education programs through the Collaborative School of the Arts, which is an incredibly important aspect of arts for youth in our area. Hannah Arendt Virtual Discussion

Arendt coined the phrase “the banality of evil” to describe the ordinariness of the Holocaust’s perpetrators; a thinker and writer, often referred to as a philosopher, considered herself a political theorist. Brandtville Blues

Saratoga Springs History Museum, 1 E. An accomplished musician, entertaining speaker, and Board Member at the History Museum, Daggs (and special guests!) will bring Brandtville alive. The Saratoga Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the John Curtis Ancestors announce the grave marking of the John Curtis. John Curtis joined his patriotic service in 1776 in Fairfield, CT as part of the 4th Continental Regiment under the command of Lt. Col Icabod Crane and served as a private at the Battle of Brooklyn Heights. He moved to New York in 1795 and purchased a farm.

The Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation will celebrate Women’s History Month with this program presented by Dr. Sally Roesch Wagner, a highly regarded author and historian of the suffrage movement, with an introduction by Nancy Baird Brown, member of the National Votes for Women Trail. Saratoga’s role in the American Revolution is legendary, but very little is known about Saratoga Springs’ role in the 72-year Bloodless Revolution – the fight for women’s suffrage. Preserving Family History.

A Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County talk by Clifton Park Historian John Scherer. Using research, he did on Albany County’s Ten Eyck family; John will show us how he traced the ownership of 18th-century furniture and artifacts through various members to about 1960. Rock City Falls: Forgotten Crossroads

Town of Greenfield Community Center, 25 Wilton Road, Greenfield Center | 7 p.m. The Town of Greenfield Historical Society Program. Former Milton Town Historian Karen Staulters and the Forgotten Crossroads Video. This video will take us back to the Glory Days of Rock City Falls.  We’ll learn how the community grew from its early beginnings to a time when the mills flourished and how that same community responded with the closing of the mills.  Refreshments will be served.  All are welcome.
