Galway Photography Club
Held on the last Wednesday of each month, providing a safe, relaxed, and friendly atmosphere for those interested in photography. Main St, Mechanicville. Valerie’s Show includes a colorful collection of styles. The Zion Lutheran Church, 153 Nott Terrace, Schenectady, will host four artists, Cheryl Birmingham, Carol Winterton, Rita Helie and Jack Morgan. The Gallery of the Clifton Park Senior Community Center, 6 Clifton Common Blvd., Clifton Park will be exhibiting in a Themed Show, “Nature.” Visit these venues and support the arts in Southern Saratoga County. Monthly Fundraiser Dinner
To benefit the building fund. Friday, December 17, from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Principessa Elena Society located at 11 – 13 Oak St., Saratoga Springs. Menu: Pasta with sauce, meatballs with sauce, sausage with sauce, salad, Italian bread and butter. Curbside pickup only. Cost is $10. Open to the public. 

29th Annual Holiday Cookie Sale 
The Galway United Methodist Church will hold its annual cookie sale on Saturday, December 18. Cookies must be pre-ordered and paid for in advance. Cookies will be boxed in 1-pound assortments and pick up will be available for drive through only in the church parking lot at the corner of Rte.147 and CR45 in the Village of Galway between the hours of 10 AM and noon. A Winter Musical Interlude
Saratoga Chamber Players return for an exciting 35th season on Sunday, December 19 at 3 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, located at 5th Avenue & Henning Road with works of Haydn, Martinū and Beethoven. Defensive Driving Class 
On Saturday, Dec. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a New York State approved Defensive Driving Class. Save 10% on your base auto insurance for the next three years & receive up to four points off your driving record according to New York State Department of Motor Vehicle guidelines. Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Ave, Saratoga Springs. $35 per person. Bring a friend fee is $30 each. Portion of fee goes to Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church. Holiday Gift Making Workshop for Kids 
The Galway Public Library, 2112 East St. in Galway will hold a Holiday Gift Making Workshop for kids ages 7-16 on Saturday Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Participants must register at 518-882-6385 for a 1-hour time slot in advance. All materials will be provided, and volunteers will be on hand to help. This program is provided with support from the Galway PTSA, Mrs. Kinne’s Family & Consumer Sciences classes, and the Saratoga County Youth Bureau. Oompa Loompas Come to Malta
Malta Spotlighter’s Theatre Troupe presents Willy Wonka TYA at the Malta Community Center, One Bayberry Dr., Malta on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Malta Community Center or www.maltaparksrec.com. General admission seats are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 18. Free children’s tickets are available with paying adult courtesy of Stewart’s Holiday Match grant. Celebrate Jane Austen’s Birthday 
The Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA)-New York Capital Region is hosting the annual celebration of Jane Austen’s birthday on Saturday, Dec.11 at 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Inn at Saratoga, 231 Broadway, Saratoga Springs. This year’s festivities include a free raffle ticket for Austen-related items and an Afternoon High Tea with scones, biscotti, finger sandwiches, green salad, fresh strawberries and cream, and, of course, Jane’s Birthday Cake. Tea and conversation followed by a talk by Jane Cleland on her novel The Lost Letters of Jane Austen. The cost is $36 for the High Tea. GriefShare “Surviving the Holidays”

Jane McCrea: A Revolutionary Martyr and an Early American Family Story
On Dec. 14 at Brookside Museum, 6 Charlton St., Ballston Spa, at 7 p.m. Learn about Jane McCrea with Blake Grindon, Ph.D. candidate at Princeton University. She will explore and examine the life and legacy of Jean McCrea. Best remembered as the focus of anti-Indian and anti-British Patriot propaganda that followed her death during the Saratoga Campaign in 1777, further investigation reveals her role in an interconnected world of colonial wars and Native politics stretching back long before the American Revolution. This will be a virtual event as part of the Expert Next Door series via Zoom. 

December Meeting/Luncheon
The Ch. 50 Korean War Veterans Assoc. will be holding their December Meeting/Luncheon at 12 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Embassy Hotel on Congress St. in Saratoga Springs. Christkindlmark
Held in Lake George at the Glens Falls City Park with vendors, holiday friends, live music, activities, food and drink. The event takes place under heated tents in the heart of downtown Glens Falls on Friday, Dec. 3, 4-8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 5, from 11-4 p.m.

Ballston Spa Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting
The Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association’s annual Ballston Spa Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting takes place Friday, December 3.  The parade step off time is 6:30 p.m., proceeding on Milton Avenue and ending in Wiswall Park on Front Street with Santa lighting the village Christmas tree. The parade is a hometown-style holiday tradition, with fire trucks, floats, animals, kids and Santa parading down the main street of the village.  Once again, this year, the parade will spotlight the Toys for Tots campaign, in partnership with the Ballston Spa Community Emergency Corps, Saratoga County Sheriff Department and U.S. Marine Corps.  Volunteers from these organizations will be on hand to collect donations of new, unwrapped toys from spectators along the parade route as well as at the tree lighting.

Holiday Sale
The Old Saratoga Reformed Church, located at Pearl and Burgoyne Streets in Schuylerville, will be having a Holiday Sale on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 8 a.m.  – 2 p.m.  New and gently used Christmas items will be available, including decorations and collectables. There will also be a basket raffle. For more information, call the church office at 518-695-3479, 9 a.m-12 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Holiday Craft & Vendor Fair
To be held on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge, 1 Elks Lane, Saratoga Springs. Admission is free. There will be 35 crafters and vendors displaying their wares for your shopping convenience.  We will also offer raffles and food.  Please come and enjoy holiday shopping and support the local Elks Fundraiser. 

“Great Train Extravaganza” Giant Model Train Show 
The original and largest model train event in the Capitol Region will be held on Dec. 5 at the Empire State Convention Center from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults, children under 12 are free. 300+ tables: model trains, parts, train sets, buildings, craftsman kits, accessories, electronics, scenery, books, DVDs, prints, railroad memorabilia. Homes for Orphaned Pets Exist Black Caturday Sale
Shop to help the animals, Friday, November 26 and Saturday, November 27, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at our center in the Wilton Mall. All proceeds collected from this sale will go towards HOPE and the animals, while they wait to find their forever homes.

Holiday Craft Marketplace
Held at the Saratoga Springs City Center on November 27 from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The Holiday Craft Marketplace will benefit Saratoga Center for the Family for the 46th year. Shop over 100 local crafters. Local crafters and artisans will be showcasing their homemade items, from beautiful woodwork to handmade jewelry, from scented candles to holiday cards & decor! Bring your shopping bags and be ready to fill them with unique gifts for your loved ones or yourself! Masks required.

21st Annual Artisan Market
The beloved “Artisan Market” at Brookside Museum will be November 27 through December 24. The market will feature only handcrafted products created by local artisans.  Everything from natural soaps and lotions to unique ornaments and jewelry to delicious syrups and edibles.  A unique shopping experience and a variety of items that makes holiday shopping simple, plus each item sold supports both the Saratoga County History Center and local artisans. Brookside Museum is located at 6 Charlton St, Ballston Spa. Hours as follows: Thursdays, 12 – 5 p.m., Fridays, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturdays, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sundays, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Face coverings are required during your visit. Lake George’s Festival of Lights
Takes place along Canada Street in Lake George from November 27 – December 31. Visitors and locals alike can get in the holiday spirit by enjoying decorated storefronts on Canada Street and a huge light display in Shepard’s Park in Lake George. There is no cost to enjoy the lights. The festival also features several standout events which are ticketed: Royal Snow Sisters Holiday Princess Show, Ha-Ha-Holiday Comedy Show, a Holiday Artisan Market, and live family-friendly music. Advance tickets are required. Tickets can be purchased, and information can be found at www.eventstoat.net.

Heroic Handel! Handel’s Judas Maccabaeus
On Friday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m. Saratoga Voices will perform a semi-staged version of Handel’s oratorio, Judas Maccabaeus at the newly renovated Universal Preservation Hall. To perform two of the lead rolls, Saratoga Voices has engaged the talent of two internationally renowned vocal artists with strong dramatic experience. Tenor Thomas Cooley sings the title role of Judas Maccabaeus and baritone Jesse Blumberg sings the equally heroic role of Simon, the brother of Judas. Tickets for Heroic Handel! Ballston Spa Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting
The Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association’s annual Ballston Spa Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting takes place Friday, December 3.  The parade step off time is 6:30 p.m., proceeding on Milton Avenue and ending in Wiswall Park on Front Street with Santa lighting the village Christmas tree.  The parade is a hometown-style holiday tradition, with fire trucks, floats, animals, kids and Santa parading down the main street of the village.  Once again, this year, the parade will spotlight the Toys for Tots campaign, in partnership with the Ballston Spa Community Emergency Corps, Saratoga County Sheriff Department and U.S. Marine Corps.  Volunteers from these organizations will be on hand to collect donations of new, unwrapped toys from spectators along the parade route as well as at the tree lighting.

Celebrate Jane Austen’s Birthday 
The Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA)-New York Capital Region is hosting the annual celebration of Jane Austen’s birthday on Saturday, December 11 at 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Inn at Saratoga, 231 Broadway in Saratoga Springs.  This year’s festivities include a free raffle ticket for Austen-related items and an Afternoon High Tea with scones, biscotti, finger sandwiches, green salad, fresh strawberries and cream, and, of course, Jane’s Birthday Cake.  Tea and conversation followed by a talk by Jane Cleland on her novel The Lost Letters of Jane Austen. To be held On Saturday, November 13 at the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, located at 175 Fifth Ave., Saratoga Springs, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. New York state approved. Holiday Indoor Craft & Garage Sale 
On Sunday, November 14, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. the popular Elks Ladies Auxiliary Indoor Craft and Garage Sale at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Club on Elks Lane will hold an extra monthly sale for holiday shopping.  Admission is free with over 40 vendors; parking is great, bargains galore, and lunch. Household items, sports equipment, hand-made items, clothing, fabrics, jewelry, party vendors, pet supplies, food treats, soaps, body lotions, and just about anything you can imagine. Collecting Political Memorabilia
On Monday, November 15 at 7 p.m., the Saratoga County History Roundtable will present a program on “Collecting Political Memorabilia” by Bill McPherson at the Saratoga County History Center at Brookside Museum, 6 Charlton Street, Ballston Spa. Mr. McPherson will bring portions of his collection, which is concentrated on 19th and early 20th century Presidents and electoral campaigns, the issue of the 8-hour day, and suffrage, as well as political material that has a regional or local flavor. Southern Saratoga Art Society Show
SSAS is hosting a group art show for members at the Clifton Park Halfmoon Public Library, “A” Gallery, Moe Rd, Clifton through Oct. 25. Twelve artists will display their works in mediums of oil, acrylic, pastels, mixed media, watercolor, acrylic on foil and colored pencils.  The subjects covered stretch from abstract expressionism to realistic landscapes and a lot in between.  Participating artists are Jack Morgan, Valerie Wolf, Kristine Kelly, Barbara Aldi, Karen Zimmers, Rita Helie, Roberta Moses, Joan Van Alphen, Carol Winterton, Diane Pollock, David Mayack and Barbara Buckly.  Come in and view the exciting show with the talented artists from Clifton Park and neighboring towns.

Saratoga County Stories
A major achievement for the History Center and the Roundtable, comprised of 58 short articles, the collection is a veritable who-what-where-when-and-why of Saratoga County history.  Contributing authors include familiar names of local historians, as well as many regional “history buffs.”  Two in-person events: Saturday, Oct, 23, 2-5 p.m. at Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa and Sunday, Nov. 7, 2-4 p.m. at Historic Grooms Tavern in Clifton Park.  The public will be able to meet contributing authors and the editorial team, purchase copies of the book, and have their editions signed.  For more information, or to pre-order books, go to brooksidemuseum.org or email Jim Richmond of the Saratoga County History Roundtable: saratogacohistoryroundtable@gmail.com. 

Galway Photography Club 
Next meeting will be held on Oct. 27 at the Galway Public Library, located at 2112 East St, Village of Galway, 6 p.m. These monthly meetings provide a safe, relaxed, and friendly atmosphere for those interested in photography to share their photographs and learn how to improve their technical and artistic skills. This month club members Jason Cromie & Dave Waite will be offering practical tips for creating family holiday greeting cards from taking the photos to how to order cards online.
