Fundraiser Dinner 
On Friday, October 15, from 5 – 7 p.m. to benefit Saratoga Children’s Museum, curbside pickup only at Principessa Elena Society, located at 11 – 13 Oak St., Saratoga Springs. Open to the public. Menu: Pasta with sauce, meatballs with sauce, sausage with sauce, salad, Italian bread, butter. Cost is $10. 

Southern Saratoga Art Society Show
SSAS is hosting a group art show for members at the Clifton Park Halfmoon Public Library, “A” Gallery, Moe Rd, Clifton Park through October 25.  Twelve artists will display their works in mediums of oil, acrylic, pastels, mixed media, watercolor, acrylic on foil and colored pencils.  The subjects covered stretch from abstract expressionism to realistic landscapes and a lot in between.  Participating artists are Jack Morgan, Valerie Wolf, Kristine Kelly, Barbara Aldi, Karen Zimmers, Rita Helie, Roberta Moses, Joan Van Alphen, Carol Winterton, Diane Pollock, David Mayack and Barbara Buckly.  Come in and view the exciting show with the talented artists from Clifton Park and neighboring towns.

Saratoga Book Festival
Russell Banks will provide the opening keynote address to kick off the festival on Friday, October 15, at 7 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs City Center.  On Saturday there will be upwards of a dozen author events around downtown Saratoga at various venues including the Saratoga Springs Public Library, Saratoga Arts, and Caffe Lena, spotlighting emerging local and regional authors, poets, children’s book authors and illustrators, along with nationally known bestselling authors upstate New York readers love and appreciate.  A diverse range of authors, genres, and formats like panels, moderated discussions, interactive programs, accompanied by author readings, signings, and more.” For more information, visit: www.saratogabookfestival.org 

Genealogy Day 
Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County will offer a series of 4 genealogy talks in one day, via Zoom, Saturday, October 16, 9:30 – 3:15, featuring certified genealogist Margaret R. Fortier. Lost in Translation: Deciphering Foreign Names, Places and Documents; Bay State (Massachusetts) Bonanza:  Four Centuries of Vital Records, An Identity Case Study; French-Canadian Genealogy.  Cost is $15 for members and $25 for non-members. The $25 will include HH membership for 14 months, access to the free monthly meeting programs, bi-monthly newsletters, and can share their family search names in a listing distributed annually. Wild Ones Program
Announcing the formation of a local chapter of the Wild Ones: Native plants, natural landscapes, all-volunteer, non-profit organization. The focus is to promote the practice of using native plants in landscapes to preserve biodiversity in the area. The first Wild Ones presentation will be held on October 17 at 2 p.m. Master Gardener Martie Teumim will give a presentation through Zoom on ‘Gathering Native Plant Seeds from Your Own Backyard.’ She will show you how to harvest, save, and plant native seeds found in your own backyard. A major achievement for the History Center and the Roundtable, comprised of fifty-eight short articles, the collection is a veritable who-what-where-when-and-why of Saratoga County history.  Contributing authors include familiar names of local historians, as well as many regional “history buffs.”  Two in-person events: Saturday, October 23, 2-5 p.m. at Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa; and Sunday, November 7, 2-4 p.m. at Historic Grooms Tavern in Clifton Park.  The public will be able to meet contributing authors and the editorial team, purchase copies of the book, and have their editions signed.  For more information, or to pre-order books, go to brooksidemuseum.org or email Jim Richmond of the Saratoga County History Roundtable: saratogacohistoryroundtable@gmail.com.

St Paul’s Lutheran Church Annual Garage Sale
St. Paul’s annual yard sale will take place Saturday, Oct. 9, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., 149 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs. The sale will benefit Missions to address food insecurity, homelessness, and assistance to missionaries overseas. Accepting item donations. We accept most items, except TV’s, electronics and clothing. Drop off donations at the church Friday, Oct. 8, from 4 – 8 p.m. A separate table at the sale will be for non-perishable food item donations. 

Apple Pie Social
The Wilton Heritage Society’s annual Apple Pie Social will take place on Sunday, Oct. 10, between 1-4 p.m. The Wilton Heritage Museum is located at 5 Parkhurst Rd., Wilton. There is a $5 donation per slice of pie with cheese. Curbside pickup only.  This year’s pies will be baked by Smith’s Orchard Bake Shop.  Whole pies may be available for purchase after 3 p.m., based on availability.

Ghostly Spooks Luncheon
Come get “spooked” with us on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 12- 2 p.m. Luncheon is $20 cash, includes entree, soup, dessert and beverages! Held at Circa’21 restaurant at McGregor Links, 359 Northern Pines Rd., Wilton. Special Feature is Joe Haedrich, “Chief Ghost Hunter” of Haunted Saratoga Tours will tell some spooky tales of local lore. 19th Annual The Way We Were Car Show
Come stroll our historic village, check out the hundreds of cars and trucks on display, and enjoy live music, vendors and downtown businesses on Sunday, October 10, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Front St. in Ballston Spa. Rain date October 17. A “Kids Zone”, will be located by the Old Iron Springs, with free children’s activities. Free to spectators.  Exhibitors can pre-register by September 30 for $15 per car or $20 the day of show. All proceeds benefit BSBPA community activities. Pack 4016 Scout Olympics Open House
September 30 at the East Side Recreation fields (enter by Caroline St. School), 226 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs, at 6 p.m. Sponsored by the Saratoga-Wilton Elks, welcomes prospective new families to join us for our “Scout Olympics” first meeting of the year. Diabetes Support Group Online 
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County will host an informal support group via Zoom for people with diabetes or prediabetes. Champlain Canal Tour 
Come walk in the foot prints of the canallers and mules who worked the Canal in Waterford! The Canal, in operation from 1823-1918, made Waterford an important transportation hub for almost a century. The Saratoga County History Roundtable is sponsoring this one-mile walking tour on Friday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. led by Waterford Town Historian Russ VanDervoort who will share the stories of the trials and tribulations of those who made their living on the canal. PetAPalooza Pet Adoption Day

Cerebral Palsy Fundraiser
Saratoga-Wilton Elks Auxiliary is sponsoring “Octoberfest 21” for our Cerebral Palsy Fundraiser on Friday, October 1, at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge from 6 to 10 pm.  Put on your dancing shoes and casual attire while movin’ and groovin’ with Betsy and the Byegons. Cost is $20 per person in advance. Sustainable Saratoga is holding their fifth annual Saratoga Recycles Day on Saturday, Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the SPAC overflow parking lot on the west side of Route 50. There are COVID-related safety protocols in place again this year – masks are required; please bring exact change to minimize the handling of money; and organize items by drop-off station to reduce physical contact; always remain in your vehicle. Fall Festival Craft Fair and Bake Sale
On Saturday, October 2, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Charlton Freehold Presbyterian Church will welcome many and various artisans from around the Capital District.  Snacks and lunch will be available – enjoy purchasing home-baked items.  20% of the net income from the sale will go to CAPTAIN, Community Human Services.

3D Bow Shooting Course 
Fish Creek Rod and Gun Club will host a 3D Bow shooting course, on our new course Saturday, October 2 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Open to the public, all are welcome novice to expert, bring your own bow and equipment (No Crossbows). This is a great time to introduce youth to the sport. Cost is $5 per course. There will be available for purchase hot dogs, burgers, soda, and water. 4th Annual Dan Provost Memorial Walk for Awareness and Recovery 
Please join us at Gavin Park in Saratoga Springs, on Saturday, October 2.  Registration, fun and games begin at 10 a.m. with a 1.25-mile family-friendly walk at approximately 11 a.m.  Refreshments and numerous raffle items will be available. Suggested individual donation is $10, family $20. The 24th Annual Autumn Jewels Show 
Held during October at the Clifton Park Senior Community Center, 6 Clifton Common Blvd.  Sponsored by the Southern Saratoga Art Society and open to all area artists.  Entries will be judged, and prizes awarded in both fine arts and photography.  Entries must be received by September 20 and mailed to Southern Saratoga Art Society, Attn: Rita Helie, Autumn Jewels Chairperson, 10 Forestbrook Drive., Ballston Lake, NY 12019. Fundraiser Fish Fry
Hosted by Knights of Columbus #246 on Friday, Sept. 24, from 5 – 7:30 p.m.  Meal choices: fried or baked haddock $14, or fried clam strips $12, French fries, cole slaw, tartar sauce, cocktail sauce. Trap/Clay Shoot
Fish Creek Rod & Gun Club will host a Trap/Clay shoot on Saturday, Sept. 25 running from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Open to the public – Great time to introduce the youth to trap shooting for Fun. The Great Saratoga Museum Treasure Hunt
Grab your car keys, smart phones, and sense of adventure because Saratoga County is about to embark on a family-friendly treasure hunt from Lake Luzerne to Waterford! During the weekend of Sept. 25-26 from 1 – 5 p.m., the Saratoga County History Center is hosting a wide-ranging scavenger quest that includes a dozen of the county’s charming local museums and historical societies. Saratoga Book Festival

Knights of Columbus #246 will be hosting a Fundraiser Italian Night Takeout on Friday, September 17, from 5-7:30 p.m. For a cost of $15 each, you have a choice of Lasagna, Bracciole, or Chicken Cacciatore. All meals will be served with salad and bread. 48th annual Adirondack Balloon Festival
The festival takes place Thursday to Sunday, September 23 – 26, in multiple locations. The event is free. Festival merchandise, one of the event’s biggest fundraisers, will be for sale at select events. This year, the festival cannot allow vendors, children’s activities, or the Open Door breakfast. Pilots can’t take paid passengers this year. At the airport, you can attend a drive-through moonglow to observe 40 tethered balloons on display, lit up from within. There will also be a live band, 8-10 balloons, and possibly a fireworks display at the East Field. Balloon launches are subject to weather conditions. Annual Rummage Sale
West Charlton United Presbyterian Church (Scotch Church), 1331 Sacandaga Rd, Amsterdam (corner of Route 147 and 67) will hold its annual rummage sale on Friday, Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The sale will include clothing, books, household items, children’s toys, and many other items.  Those who have not been vaccinated, please wear a mask.

Bass Fishing Tournament
The tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11 at Fish Creek from 9P bridge to last barrier before the Hudson River. Participants will be provided a hands-on learning experience from professional shearer Siri Swanson. “Murder for Hire” Presentation
The Saratoga County History Roundtable will offer a presentation by Russ VanDervoort, Waterford Town Historian, at Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa on Thursday, September 16 at 7 p.m. Russ will tell the story of a 150-year-old murder for hire plot that a newspaper called “The Most Damnable Murder Plot Ever Ventilated!” an event that unfolded in 1870-1871 that involved participants from throughout Saratoga County. Zoom Presentation, Noon Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County will host an informal support group via Zoom for people with diabetes or prediabetes. Time to Sing – Saratoga Voices
Saratoga Voices, formerly known as the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society, invites all singers to join them for their first performance of the 2021-22 season. The opening concert is Handel’s Judas Maccabeus, to be performed on November 19, 7:30 p.m. at the newly renovated Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs. To take advantage of the hall’s unique theater in the round, the performance will have an interesting twist – a semi-staged concert version of this well-known choral masterpiece. 48th annual Adirondack Balloon Festival
The 48th annual Adirondack Balloon Festival takes place Thursday to Sunday, September 23 to 26, in multiple locations. As always, the event is 100% free for the community. Festival Merchandise, one of the event’s biggest fundraisers, will be for sale at select events, with a smaller selection than in previous years. This year, the Balloon Festival cannot allow vendors, children’s activities, or the Open Door breakfast. Pilots can’t take paid passengers this year. At the airport, you can attend a drive-through moonglow to observe 40 tethered balloons on display, lit up from within. There will also be a brand-new event at East Field with a live band, 8-10 balloons, and possibly a fireworks display. The Adirondack Balloon Festival’s launches are subject to weather conditions. This summer during the months of July and August the First Baptist Church of Ballston Spa will sponsor a Summer Lunch Program for children living in and around the village.  Nutritious lunches will be made daily and distributed in seven locations.  Volunteers are needed to assemble and distribute the lunches.  Anyone who is interested in volunteering in some way in making a financial contribution, or in obtaining an application or a menu can contact the church at 518-885-8361 or at bspabaptist202@gmail.com or bspabaptist.org.  Please help to impact the children of Ballston Spa in a positive way.

In April, just as spring begins, leave your daily routine behind and join Saratoga Arts in an art and history-filled visit to Belgium and Holland April 20-29, 2022. Diabetes Support Group Online
Zoom Presentation, Noon |Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County will host an informal support group via Zoom for people with diabetes or prediabetes. The program will meet the first Friday of each month. Individuals can join by contacting Diane Whitten at 518-885-8995, or dwhitten@cornell.edu. There is no fee for the support group. Topics will vary and may be based on the interest of the group.

Time to Sing – Saratoga Voices
Saratoga Voices, formerly known as the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society, invites all singers to join them for their first performance of the 2021-22 season. The opening concert is Handel’s Judas Maccabeus, to be performed on November 19, 7:30 p.m. at the newly renovated Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs. To take advantage of the hall’s unique theater in the round, the performance will have an interesting twist – a semi-staged concert version of this well-known choral masterpiece. Rehearsals are held Tuesday nights, 7 p.m., at the O’Rourke Middle School in Burnt Hills and start September 7. Singers are asked to complete a vocal placement interview beforehand and must be vaccinated. 27th Annual Town of Greenfield, Town-Wide Garage & Craft Sale
There will be numerous sales located throughout the Town of Greenfield (including Greenfield Center, Porter Corners, and Middle Grove) on September 11 and 12 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Rain or Shine. Tons of stuff to browse and buy. Free maps of all the garage sales will be available beginning September 10 at the Stewart’s Shop in Greenfield and Middle Grove, the Post Office’s at Middle Grove, Porter Corners and Greenfield Center, the Town Hall in Greenfield, the Greenfield Center Baptist Church, and the Greenfield Lions Information/Silent Auction Tent.   

Sheep Shearing Clinic
Saratoga County 4-H is offering a Sheep Shearing Clinic this fall to youth ages 10 and older. The event will take place at the 4-H Training Center on Middleline Road in Ballston Spa on September 16 at 5 p.m. This clinic will exhibit the art of sheep shearing and preparing wool breeds for show. Participants will be provided a hands-on learning experience from professional shearer Siri Swanson. Siri Swanson is a Shepherd and Shearer of Yankee Rock Farm. Swanson has abundant of background knowledge in the sheep industry and has been shearing for the last 5 years. Siri along with shearing partner, Colin Siegmund, strive to maintain animal comfort and top-quality clipping. Space is limited and expected to fill quickly. Payment of $5/family is required at entry or prior to the clinic. The event is free of charge for 4-H members and their families. 1st Annual Charity Golf Scramble 
The Rotary Club of Saratoga Spring 1st Annual Charity Golf Scramble, sponsored by Saratoga Financial Services and The Adirondack Trust Company, is September 17 at McGregor Links Golf Club in Saratoga. Entry fee of $100 per person ($400 per team) includes 18 holes, cart, lunch, raffle prizes, 50/50 and a chance at hole-in-one-prizes. Pancake Breakfast and Car Show
Help rebuild the grandstand!  Join us on August 22 from 8 – 2 p.m. at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds, located at 162 Prospect St., Ballston Spa.  Breakfast will be served from 8 – 11 a.m., Car Show from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. (registration 7:30 a.m.). 50/50 raffle and basket raffles. All proceeds for the rebuild of the Grandstand. $15 Entry fee for car show participants. Breakfast: $8 adult, $5 children 10 & under. 

STEM Summer Aviation Camp
The camp will be held on Tuesday, August 24-Friday, August 27 from 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Empire State Aerosciences Museum, 250 Rudy Chase Dr, Glenville, for students ages 8 -16. Size of the class will be limited to 20 students, with appropriate spacing. Several classes will be conducted outdoors, weather dependent. The program offers classes on a variety of aviation topics, such as: the history of aviation, the forces of flight, learning the different parts of a plane, how helicopters fly, the US Manned Space Program and more. The program will also feature guest speakers, tours of the museum, and use of flight simulators. ESAM is committed to serving as a resource for all of the community and a limited number of scholarships are available. Cost is $120 per student for the four day session. 4-H Project Exhibition
In an effort to give 4-H youth an opportunity to demonstrate their impressive project work, Saratoga County 4-H is planning the “4-H Project Exhibition”. Experienced judges will evaluate entries and award ribbons for project work.  Public viewing of the exhibits will take place on August 14 and 15 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the 4-H Training Center in Ballston Spa. 

Eleventh Caboose Day and Car Show
Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles, and Imports welcome on Saturday, August 14 at The Caboose at King’s Station, corner of Route 9N and Porter Rd., Porter Corners from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tour King’s Station and the restored caboose. Reading & Book Signing by Matt Witten
Come to the Ballston Spa Public Library Saturday, August 14 at 11a.m. for a book signing and reading with author, Matt Witten. This will be an in-person event in the library’s community room.
Join mystery and TV writer, Matt Witten as he presents his new novel, The Necklace. Books will be available to purchase and sign. Mr. Witten lived in Saratoga Springs, where he wrote four mystery novels that were published by Signet, including Breakfast at Madeline’s. Then moved to LA and began writing for TV: Law & Order, House, Pretty Little Liars, CSI: Miami, and other shows. Set partly in Lake Luzerne, The Necklace is his first novel since he began writing for TV. Witten has been spending summers in Lake Luzerne for the past twenty-five years. Trap/Clay Shoot
Fish Creek Rod & Gun Club will host a Trap/Clay shoot on Sunday August 15, running from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Open to the public – Great time to introduce the youth to trap shooting for fun. Novice to Expert only $5 per round. We are located at 123 NY Rt 32 Schuylerville. Hot dogs, hamburgers, soda, and water will be available for purchase.

The Health, History, & Horses Charity Gala
Presented by Ladies of charity, Saratoga Chapter. Funds raised are distributed annually to establish charities in Saratoga & Warren/Washington Counties: Catholic Charities, food kitchens, shelters, and tuition support programs. The gala will be held on Thursday, August 19 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Longfellow’s Restaurant, located at 500 Union Ave., Saratoga Springs. There will be complimentary beer and wine the first hour, hot and cold food stations, cash bar, live music, silent auction, 4 seasons basket raffle, 50/50 raffle and racetrack t-shirt quilt.
