AARP/TaxAide Services
The AARP TaxAide program will begin providing free tax preparation services for low- and moderate-income residents in Saratoga, Washington and Warren Counties. The TaxAide preparers are trained in federal and state tax regulations and are certified by the IRS. Open House – Retired and Senior Volunteers
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Saratoga County is partnering with The Children’s Museum at Saratoga. The Museum is in need of Monday Volunteers. The museum is closed to visitors on Mondays. There is a wide array of opportunity for volunteers to help. The museum can use assistance with building exhibits, repairs, painting, cleaning, gardening, and office work. Stop by on Monday, March 16 from 10 a.m. – noon. and learn more about this flexible, fun opportunity. Children’s Museum is located at 69 Caroline St., Saratoga Springs. 

Bus Trip to Turning Stone
Olde Saratoga Seniors are hosting a bus trip to Turning Stone Casino, Verona on Monday, March 16. Bus leaves Saratoga Train Station at 6:15 a.m. or American Legion, Schuylerville at 6:45 a.m. and returns approximately 8:30 p.m. Can play bingo or Casino Bonus. “Medicare for All” – What Would it Mean, presented at the Congregation Shaara Tfille, 84 Weibel Ave., Saratoga Springs on March 17 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Dr. George Jolly will explain and clarify issues surrounding possible changes in the way we pay for healthcare. Then we’ll look at what changes have been proposed to “improve” and “enhance” Medicare. Bring your questions, concerns and the comments you have heard. He will speak to all of them (if there’s time). Brooks BBQ and Annual Spring Auction
Stillwater United Church is holding a Brooks’ Chicken BBQ dinner on Saturday, March 21 from 4 – 6:30 p.m., until “sold out” in Stillwater United’s Fellowship Hall at 747 Hudson Ave. across from Post office. Parking behind church. BBQ tickets $14. Menu includes half-chicken, potato, coleslaw, roll, cake and beverage. Eat in or take-out.  The Annual Spring Auction will be held at the same time. The preview of items begins at 3 p.m. with a scheduled 6:30 p.m. drawing. Winners do not have to be present at the time of the drawing. Handicap accessible.

Leap into Spring with an Evening of Socializing and Music
Join us on Saturday, March 21 at Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 624 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs at 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.  Wine, coffee and desserts can be purchased. Indoor Craft & Garage Sale
On Sunday, March 22 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Club on Elks Lane.  Admission is free, over 40 vendors, great parking, bargains galore, and lunch. Household items, sports equipment, hand-made items, clothing, jewelry, party vendors, pet supplies, food treats, and more. Estherville Animal Shelter Luncheon
The luncheon will be held at Van Patten Golf Club, 924 Main St., Clifton Park, on Sunday, March 29 from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. Estherville is celebrating their 65th year as a no-kill shelter that cares for abandoned and abused animals. The luncheon includes Chef’s Buffet, silent auction and raffle. Come support this privately-run facility. Cost is $39 payable to Estherville by March 15, mail to B. H.O.P.E. Animal Rescue Fundraiser
Help save the lives of orphaned animals by dining out on Wednesday, March 25 from 5 – 9 p.m. at The Inn at Saratoga, 231 Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Enjoy dinner, drinks and live entertainment. The Inn at Saratoga will donate 20% of the total food and beverage proceeds to H.O.P.E. Animal Rescue. Reservations suggested but not required.

Spotlighter’s Theater Troupe Auditions
Town of Malta Spotlighter’s Theatre Troupe will be holding auditions for their June musical production of “The Rockin’ Tale of Snow White” at the Malta Community Center. Auditions are by appointment only on Sunday, March 29 and Monday, March 30. Needed are over 30 actors and actresses, ages seven through adult. Call for Artists with Chronic Illnesses, Disabilities, & Caregivers
If you are an artist living with or caring for someone with a rare disease, serious illness, or disability, this is a great opportunity to share your art. Saratoga-based nonprofit, Beyond My Battle, is holding the second annual “Art with Heart and Hope” show on May 21 at Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs. Deadline to submit is March 30. All art must be able to be hung on a wall. Artist must be at least 18 years old and living in the Capital Region of New York. Artists should submit a photo of their artwork, along with a title, dimensions, medium, and description (approximately 100 words) of how they use art to move beyond their personal battle to art@beyondmybattle.org no later than March 30.

Wilton Democrats 2nd Annual Spring Social
The Town of Wilton Democratic Committee is holding its Social on Sunday, April 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. at McGregor Links Country Club, 359 Northern Pines Rd, Wilton. Workshop for Pastoral Care and Care Givers
Pastoral Care Ministry will offer skill building and formation workshops for those of any faith interested in volunteering as a visitor to the sick, elderly, and homebound. The workshops will be held Mondays April 20, 27 and May 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, May 9 from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.  at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Rd., Clifton Park. Emmaus Ministry for Grieving Parents Spiritual Retreat
Losing a child under any circumstances is horrendous. Focusing on the spirituality of the grieving process can help tremendously. 18th Annual Maple in April
On April 25 and 26 the 18th annual Maple in April Festival will be held along Rockwell St. in Hadley. This is an activity-packed, family-friendly, free spring festival hosted by the Hadley Business Association in collaboration with other area organizations. You can look forward to maple demonstrations and tasting everything maple, a scholarship breakfast, horse-drawn wagon rides, a car show, street vendors, art auction, kids’ activities, and more. While some of the scheduled activities are weather dependent, the event will take place whether there’s rain, sunshine, or both. Healing with Horsepower
Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga, Inc cordially invites you to our Derby Day fundraiser Event on May 2, from 2 – 7 p.m. at the Saratoga Automobile Museum. As an all-ages event, there is something fun for everyone! Meet the therapy horses and enjoy music, wines, craft beers, ciders, spirits, and gourmet food sampling. Kids can show off their creativity at the derby hat decoration station. There will be hobby horse races, a silent auction and live viewing of the Kentucky Derby Race! All proceeds will benefit the mission of Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga, Inc. to help rescue retired racehorses and prevent them from encountering abuse or neglect while healing members of our community who struggle with mental health issues. Trout Unlimited Conservation Banquet
The banquet is open to everyone. It will be held at The Century House in Latham on March 7. Tickets are on sale now on the Clearwater Chapter’s website www.clearwatertu.org. The Saratoga Ancient Order of Hibernians will hold a Family Festival on March 8 from 2 – 6 p.m. at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks, 1 Elk Lane, Saratoga Springs. “Looking Green” Luncheon

George Jolly, MD, is a local retired Internist/Geriatrician and long-time member of the Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), a group that advocates for national, universal health insurance. Transportation Drivers Needed
Retired Senior Volunteer Program helps recruit volunteers age 55 and older for many opportunities. We are currently looking for Transportation Drivers to take seniors to and from medical appointments. We provide the vehicle, gas, and trip details with directions. Social Activities for Seniors
If you’re over 55, a long-time or new resident in the area and looking to meet active seniors, check out the Ballston Area Senior Citizens (BASC).  BASC sponsors many activities at the Milton Community Center located at 310 Northline Road, Ballston Spa.  Residents from surrounding communities are welcome to join.  Programs and activities include Festive Dinners, dances with live bands, “pickin’ sessions”, bus trips, weekly luncheons, exercise classes, chorus, crafts, etc.  Stop in any Thursday at 11 a.m. and join us for lunch.  Yearly membership fee is $10. If you are an artist living with or caring for someone living with a rare disease, serious illness, or disability, this is a great opportunity to share your art. Saratoga-based nonprofit, Beyond My Battle, is holding the second annual “Art with Heart and Hope” show on May 21 at Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs.  Showcasing the ways art can help manage the many stressors of living with, or caring for someone living with, physical illness and disability. The deadline to submit artwork is March 30. All art must be able to be hung on a wall. Artist must be at least 18 years old; and live in the Capital Region of NY. Artists should submit a photo of their artwork, along with a title, dimensions, medium, and a description (approximately 100 words) of how they use art to move beyond their personal battle to art@beyondmybattle.org no later than March 30.

18th Annual Maple in April 
On April 25 and 26 the 18th annual Maple in April Festival will be held along Rockwell Street in Hadley, which is just west of Lake George and north of Albany. This is an activity-packed, family-friendly, free spring festival hosted by the Hadley Business Association in collaboration with other area organizations. SCHR Oral History Workshop
As part of the Saratoga County Roundtable Oral History initiative, members of the Rutgers University Oral History Team will present a program entitled “Creating Oral History” on Saturday, February 22, 1-3 p.m. at Brookside Museum, 6 Charlton Street, Ballston Spa. Since 1994, the Rutgers Oral History Archives has achieved an impressive record of success with more than 2,000 interviews conducted to date. Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County will meet on Saturday, February 15, at 1 p.m. at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, corner of Rt. 4 and Rt. 29 in Schuylerville. Program speaker will be Bill Dolback, President of the Ticonderoga Historical Society. His topic will be “researching local history in the Champlain Valley region.” He will describe the Societies’ archive of original materials found at the Hancock House Museum, the changing exhibits and programs, the extensive newspaper holdings and the Burt Loescher collection on Rogers’ Rangers in the French and Indian War. SCHR Oral History Workshop
As part of the Saratoga County Roundtable Oral History initiative, members of the Rutgers University Oral History Team will present a program entitled “Creating Oral History” on Saturday, February 22, 1-3 p.m. at Brookside Museum, 6 Charlton Street, Ballston Spa. Since 1994, the Rutgers Oral History Archives has achieved an impressive record of success with more than 2,000 interviews conducted to date. If you are an artist living with or caring for someone living with a rare disease, serious illness, or disability, this is a great opportunity to share your art. Saratoga-based nonprofit, Beyond My Battle, is holding the second annual “Art with Heart and Hope” show on May 21 at Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs.  Showcasing the ways art can help manage the many stressors of living with, or caring for someone living with, physical illness and disability. The deadline to submit artwork is March 30. All art must be able to be hung on a wall. Artist must be at least 18 years old and live in the Capital Region of NY. Artists should submit a photo of their artwork, along with a title, dimensions, medium, and a description (approximately 100 words) of how they use art to move beyond their personal battle to art@beyondmybattle.org no later than March 30.

Join us for a day of live music, family-friendly activities and, of course, a wide variety of chowders. Part of Winterfest, Chowderfest is one of the area’s most highly anticipated events of the year and the perfect activity for a cold winter’s day. Seventh Annual Chocolate Festival
The 7th Annual Chocolate Fest is taking place on First Friday, February 7, from 6-9 p.m.  Area restaurants, bakeries, and chefs will compete to showcase their talents and tastes by preparing small, sample sized chocolate offerings in up to 3 categories: Dessert (Sweet), Savory, and Chocolate Beverage. These chocolate treats will be judged by a panel of our First Friday Fanatics as well as our visitors in Fan Favorite competition. Visitors can pick up a ballot form at any participating business and head to their favorite “Sweet Spot” shops, restaurants, and chefs to sample a $1 chocolate taste. While savoring these chocolate treats, visitors will enjoy a variety of First Friday activities going on throughout the Village, including art gallery openings, live music, artist demonstrations, and special promotions and sales just in time for Valentine’s Day. Annual Sweetheart Dance
The Saratoga/Wilton Elks Ladies Auxiliary is holding their annual Sweetheart Dance on Saturday, February 8; at the Elks Lodge, 1 Elk Lane in Saratoga Springs. By popular demand, the Band GRAVITY will be our entertainment for the night. The evening begins with cocktails/appetizers from 6-7 p.m., dinner 7 p.m., and entertainment from 9 p.m. – midnight. This year’s Valentine raffles will again benefit the local CODE BLUE Shelter initiative. Pajama Party Fundraiser for Pediatric Oncology
It’s a pajama party at the premier award-winning Adelphi Hotel in Saratoga Springs and you’re invited. The event will be on February 8, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $100 per person. February Break Drama Camp
February Break Drama Camp at the Malta Community Center is now open to students ages 7-15. All campers will be involved in character selection, costuming, acting and performing our work for invited guests the last day of class. The Saratoga Chamber Players will hopscotch across the globe on March 1 at 3 p.m. with 3 outstanding artists at the United Methodist Church, Henning Road & 5th Ave., in Saratoga Springs. Soprano Charlotte Dobbs, bass baritone Andrew Padgett, and pianist Renana Gutman will take us from Dørumsgaard’s Norway to Fauré’s France, from Rachmaninoff’s Russia to John Ireland’s England and to the United States of Barber and Williams. Chowderfest

Genealogy & Local History 
Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County will meet on Saturday, January 18, at 1 p.m. at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, corner of Rt. 4 and Rt. 29 in Schuylerville. Program speaker will be Don Rittner, author and historian. Don is writing a book on the daily life of children at the Troy Orphan Asylum. The orphanage, a respite for desperate families, started in 1833 and functioned for well over a century. In 1942, it was renamed Vanderheyden and the focus evolved into supporting and educating young people who are faced with various life challenges. Public is welcome. We are looking for new members who enjoy singing. We are a fun group who rehearse a program which we then take out to local nursing and rehabilitation homes, who are always delighted to sing with us.  We rehearse on Mondays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.  at the Milton Community Center. Come and join us.

If you’re over 55, a long-time or new resident in the area and looking to meet active seniors, check out the Ballston Area Senior Citizens (BASC).  BASC sponsors many activities at the Milton Community Center located at 310 Northline Road, Ballston Spa.  Residents from surrounding communities are welcome to join.  Programs and activities include Festive Dinners, dances with live bands, “pickin’ sessions,” bus trips, weekly luncheons, exercise classes, chorus, crafts, etc.  Stop in any Thursday at 11 a.m. and join us for lunch.  Yearly membership fee is $10. Transportation Drivers Needed
RSVP- Retired Senior Volunteer Program, helps recruit volunteers age 55 and older for many opportunities throughout Saratoga County. We are currently looking for Transportation Drivers to take seniors to and from medical appointments. We provide the vehicle, gas, and trip details with directions. Saratoga Springs Area Preschool Fair

Annual Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe
Join us at the popular and highly anticipated Annual Moonlight Ski and Snowshoe at Camp Saratoga on Scout Rd. in Gansevoort. Luminaries will glow along 2.5 miles of groomed trails. Along the way you will find fields and forests, warming bonfires, and plenty of hot chocolate! The terrain is suitable for all levels and ages and includes a smaller one-mile loop. Snowshoes will be available on a first-come first-served basis in the I.P. Winter Lodge off Parking Lot #2. The rental fee is $5/ person. During the Moonlight Ski there will be a bake sale of homemade goodies in the Winter Lodge, so stop in for some treats and to warm up. Parking will require registration tickets and will be directed by WWPP. This event is weather permitting. Dining with Diabetes
A program for people with diabetes or prediabetes and their family members is being offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension at the Clifton Park/Halfmoon Library, Mondays, January 13, 20 and 27, 1 – 2:30 p.m., and at the Saratoga Springs Library, Thursdays, January 16, 23 and 30, Noon – 1:30 p.m.  Register at the library website: cphlibrary.org, or sspl.org. These free programs are sponsored by the CPH Library and the Saratoga Springs Lions Club respectively. Participants will learn how to fit carbohydrates into a healthy menu, effectively use food labels, choose meals at a restaurant and adopt other healthy habits to help manage diabetes through healthy eating. 9th Annual Chili Bowl Fundraiser
Saratoga Clay Arts Center is pleased to announce its 9th Annual Chili Bowl Fundraiser, to be held at the Center on Saturday, January 25 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Osteria Danny will be returning this year to defend their title of “Best Chili” for the 3rd time.  In addition, SCAC welcomes local restaurants Sweet Mimi’s, Solevo, Morrissey’s, and Urban Roots to the competition. Guests purchase tickets to enter, choose a handmade bowl, enjoy live music and participate in the chili taste testing. 2020 Cabin Fever Luncheon
The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote. The amendment states that the right of citizens to vote “shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” Join Cabin Fever at Saratoga National Golf Club on January 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a celebration and dynamic discussion of the largest expansion of democracy in the history of our country. This year’s event will feature the meaningful turning points and key women shaping the suffrage movement – and what it means for key issues facing women today. Tax Assistance Volunteers
TaxAide, the free income tax assistance program sponsored by the AARP Foundation and the IRS, is seeking volunteers for the coming tax season. Volunteers answer questions, prepare and file returns for low to moderate income taxpayers and seniors from February 1 to April 15 at various sites in the Capital District.  Volunteers typically participate one day per week, with flexible schedules to accommodate volunteer availability. No experience required, but computer experience is helpful for tax counseling.  Volunteers who do not wish to prepare returns are also needed to greet taxpayers and confirm appointments. Training is provided for all positions. Volunteers may be reimbursed for a moderate level of necessary travel expenses.
