2nd Annual Car Show Fundraiser

The event will take place on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. right at Cornell’s Used Auto Parts, located at 62 S Greenfield Road, Greenfield Center, NY 12833. All makes and models are welcome to participate, and people can expect food, yard tours, trophies, and lots of cars! Take a tour of Cornell’s lot and see what goes into running their business. Celebrate with Music

Saratoga United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Ave., Saratoga Springs | 3 p.m. Saratoga Chamber Players will honor the late Peter Schickele (1936-2024).  Schickele, known for his showmanship, his PDQ Bach recordings, but also for his serious compositions, wrote a rarely heard sextet to be performed by violinists Jill Levy and Lily Holgate, violists Sarah Adams and Caeli Smith,, and cellists Eric Bartlett and Ashley Bathgate.  Also on the program are Haydn’s String Quartet in G Major, Op.33, no. 5 and Brahms’ Sextet in G Major, Op. 26, no.2. Hosted by the Saratoga County Cornell Cooperative Extension 4-H Leaders Association. This year’s event will take place on June 1, at the beautiful Fairways of Halfmoon Golf Course. Mostly Modern Festival

Returning to Saratoga for its fifth season from June 6 – 21, at the Arthur Zankel Music Center on the Skidmore College campus. There are 11 orchestral, vocal, and chamber concerts by festival and guest ensembles of mostly new music. The festival also hosts the Mostly Modern Festival Institute, a three-week intensive with a distinguished 50-member faculty for up to 30 composers and 100 instrumentalists, vocalists, and conductors. The festival’s brand-new dramatic vocal works initiative celebrates living composers, librettists, and singers and is creativity-driven and composer-forward.  Audiences will witness riveting world premieres in each concert, written by upcoming and professional innovative composers. SAIL Fundraiser Garage Sale

Donations wanted for the annual Southern Adirondack Independent Living Garage Sale (SAIL). The sale will be held at the Queensbury location at 71 Glenwood Ave., June 13 – 15. This is a vital fundraiser, filling the gaps left by grant funding and allowing us to continue our mission of helping people live more independently. Fish Fry Dinner 

Saratoga Knights of Columbus, located at 50 Pine Rd., Saratoga Springs, will be holding the dinner on Friday, April 26. Take out or eat in the lounge. Dinner will be available from 5 until 7 p.m. The menu is fried or baked haddock, fried clam strips, French fries, clam chowder and dessert when available. Cost is $15. Dessert and chowder extra.

Multi-Family Garage Sale Fundraiser Supporting Higher Education for Women

Saturday, April 27 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. – 51 Regatta View Drive, Saratoga Springs. Household items, books, toys, furniture, audio equipment, artwork and more. This event is sponsored by P.E.O. Chapter CR of Saratoga Springs. P.E.O. provides educational opportunities for women. We do this by offering scholarships, grants, awards, and loans to help women enhance their lives through learning. All proceeds will go towards funding these opportunities.

9th Annual Swap Meet of The Antique Outboard Motor Club

There is no admission fee and no fee to display/buy/sell/trade. The day is planned to begin at 9 a.m. on April 27, as a casual open-air event that is expected to last until 2 p.m. The event includes the buying, selling, and trading of antique and classic outboard motors, boats, and related items from attendees/vendors. The public is welcome. There will be food available for donation for morning coffee & doughnuts and lunch at noontime from local food establishments. Volunteer Tree Planters Needed

Help plant trees in the community. On Saturday, April 27, Sustainable Saratoga’s Urban Forestry

Project will hold its 10th year of TREE TOGA planting event, adding an expected 35 large growing 

shade trees to the urban forest. Volunteer Tree Planters are needed. Volunteers will check in at Pitney Meadows Community Farm at 9:30 a.m. on April 27 and get a lesson in tree planting before heading off in small teams. Once the trees are in the ground, Tree Host homeowners and other volunteers provide the care that is critical to tree survival and the success of Sustainable Saratoga’s mission to preserve and expand Saratoga’s urban forest. Kentucky Derby Preview Panel and Book and Memorabilia Sale

The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will play host to its annual Kentucky Derby Preview Panel program as well as a book and memorabilia sale on Saturday, April 27. Admission to the program and book sale is free. The book and memorabilia sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Museum lobby and the Kentucky Derby program will begin at noon in the Hall of Fame. Additionally, the Museum Gift Shop will be offering 15 percent off all new books throughout the day. All proceeds from the sale will directly support the Museum’s John A. Morris Research Library.

Color Pop!

Saratoga Clay Arts Center is pleased to present COLOR POP!, a national juried exhibition of 60 functional and decorative works by 42 clay artists. Juried by prominent California potter and artist, Didem Mert, this exhibition features ceramic works that utilize color theory to express thoughts, ideas, and emotions. The Friends of the Saratoga Springs Public Library’s Saratoga Book Festival, in partnership with Literary Arts@SPAC and the Saratoga County Veterans Peer Connection program, announces it will present “Masters of the Air: An Evening with Donald L. Miller,” the acclaimed historian and bestselling author of Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany, on April 30 at 7 p.m. in the Spa Little Theater in Saratoga Springs. Propagating Matters – Revolutionary Teas

On Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m. join Master Gardener, Kathleen Royka, on the 249th anniversary of The Battles of Lexington and Concord, for a celebration and taste of Revolutionary Teas. The program will discuss the Boston Tea Party and its effects on the colonists, the plant Camellia sinensis (tea) and substitutes for tea, including local variations, after the Boston Tea Party. Free Concert

The community of Saratoga Springs is invited to attend a free concert by The United States Army Field Band’s, “Jazz Ambassadors”, one of our nation’s premier military bands, direct from Washington DC! This concert will be on April 20th at 7:30pm at Universal Preservation Hall. The Jazz Ambassadors of the US Army Field Band is the official touring big band of the United States Army. The band’s diverse repertoire includes big band swing, bebop, Latin, contemporary jazz, standards, popular tunes, Dixieland, vocals, and patriotic selections. The band has been featured in joint concerts with Marvin Hamlisch and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony Pops, the Colorado Pops Orchestra, and the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall. Seeking 2024 Sustainability Fair Exhibitors

Sustainable Saratoga and Skidmore College invite sustainability-minded for-profit businesses and non-profit community organizations to apply to be exhibitors at the third annual Saratoga Sustainability Fair. Ballston Area Seniors Monthly Dance

Underwater SeaPerch Robotics 

The Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway, is hosting a workshop series for teens in middle school and older titled Underwater SeaPerch Robotics.  SeaPerch is an international program that gives teens an opportunity to be part of a real-world engineering and design project to build an underwater ROV (robot).  The first session will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 10-3.  The other four sessions will be April 20, May 18, June 1, and June 15.  Attendance at every session is not required. Mostly Modern Festival

Returning to Saratoga for its fifth season from June 6 – 21, at the Arthur Zankel Music Center on the Skidmore College campus. Volunteer Tree Planters Needed

Help plant trees in the community. On Saturday, April 27, Sustainable Saratoga’s Urban Forestry Project will hold its 10th year of TREE TOGA planting event, adding an expected 35 large-growing  shade trees to the urban forest. Volunteer Tree Planters are needed. Volunteers will check in at Pitney Meadows Community Farm at 9:30 a.m. on April 27 and get a lesson in tree planting before heading off in small teams. Once the trees are in the ground, Tree Host homeowners and other volunteers provide the care that is critical to tree survival and the success of Sustainable Saratoga’s mission to preserve and expand Saratoga’s urban forest. The Friends of the Saratoga Springs Public Library’s Saratoga Book Festival, in partnership with Literary Arts@SPAC and the Saratoga County Veterans Peer Connection program, announces it will present “Masters of the Air: An Evening with Donald L. Adirondack Turtles

On Saturday, March 16 at 11 a.m., the Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway, is hosting Adirondack Turtles, a program for all ages. Get a glimpse into the fascinating lives of freshwater turtles and their unique history and anatomy. Meet ambassador turtles from the Adirondacks and beyond and find out why turtles are disappearing and what we can do to make sure we have turtles to love for generations to come. The presenter is Debbie Philp, a NYS licensed wildlife rehabilitator and founder of Dancing Turtle Rescue, a small non-profit dedicated to saving native freshwater turtles and their wetland habitats. Genealogy and Local History

Heritage Hunters will meet on Saturday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St. in Schuylerville. Alan Maddaus, writer, historical researcher, and engineer will lead the program: “The Prestons of East Street-the Story of a 19th Century American Family.” Alan’s book follows the lives of Dr. and Mrs. Calvin Preston and their seven offspring, and how they experienced the many major events of the 1800s while living in the village of Galway. Medical Aid in Dying

Medical Aid in Dying is such an important issue for an aging generation. It is legal in many states and will be voted on in NY in June. Please consider educating yourself on this topic that affects not only those facing terminal diagnoses, but their families as well. In that effort The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Saratoga Springs will offer a film “How to Die in Oregon” (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1715802/) in support of passing the Medical Aid in Dying Act in New York. Color Pop!

Saratoga Clay Arts Center is pleased to present COLOR POP!, a national juried exhibition of 60 functional and decorative works by 42 clay artists. Community Gardening

Time to think spring. If you love to garden but don’t have the space join us at the community garden. If you are new to gardening, there are many knowledgeable gardeners there who are happy to offer advice. We have 52 raised beds that are on the Wesley campus. We have a mix of Wesley residents, Skidmore community members and local residents who grow healthy organic vegetables and beautiful flowers to improve their diet, brighten their lives and make new friends. Commissioner’s Tapping Ceremony

New York’s maple season is fast approaching! To celebrate the season NYS Commissioner of Agriculture Richard Ball will be attending a ceremonial tree tapping on Friday, March 8 at 10 a.m. This year’s ceremony will take place at Hop City Maple located at 340 Hop City Road in Ballston Spa. This annual event is hosted by the Upper Hudson Maple Producers Association. Fellow sugar makers and any who are interested are invited to attend. Several local dignitaries and Ballston Spa area farmers will be in attendance. Following the ceremony, Hop City Maple will be offering maple apple pie to attendees courtesy of Mourningkill Bake Shop. This year’s New York State Maple Weekends are March 16-17 and 23-24.

Community Torah Project: Making Parchment from a Local Deerskin

A hands-on educational workshop with Rabbi Linda Motzkin, in which students, faculty, staff, and the public are invited to take part in the Community Torah Project. Participants will help with the stretching and scraping of a local deerskin. This immersive educational activity will engage the Skidmore community and public in the sacred production of parchment, which will ultimately be used in the creation of a Torah scroll. Refreshments will be provided. No advance registration is needed. Friday, March 1 from 1 – 3 p.m. The event is held at the Tang Teaching Museum and are free and open to the public.
