Chili Dinner Fundraiser

Hosted by The Friends of Moreau Lake. Guest Speaker will be Nancy Kimball and her Kestrel. Nancy is a Wildlife Rehabilitator and founding member of North Country Wild Care. Monthly Meeting – The Thymly Herb Garden Group

Saratoga Springs Public Library and Sustainable Saratoga are excited to host our 11th Repair Café at the library on Sunday, March 3 from 1 – 4 p.m. We will have coaches available to help you fix your lamps, small appliances, computers, leather, jewelry, or sew/hem your favorite item of clothing or beloved stuffed animal. Franklin Community Center Annual Benefit Concert

The Saratoga Youth Symphony (SYS) announces their benefit concert on Sunday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ, 24 Circular St., Saratoga Springs. The Saratoga Youth Symphony provides a non-competitive orchestral experience for talented student musicians ages 18 and under. Members of the Youth Symphony, Preparatory Symphony and Wind Symphony represent more than two dozen schools throughout the Capital District. The SYS continues to build upon its reputation for musical excellence while maintaining its commitment to music education and community activities. Katie: The Strongest of the Strong

Free Family Performance at The Hyde Collection, 161 Warren Street, Glens Falls on March 16, 11 a.m. Opera Saratoga presents Katie: The Strongest of the Strong by Faye Chiao and Anton Dudley at venues across the Capital Region for children grades K-6. The 45-minute story celebrates women’s strength and confidence through the amazingly theatrical true story of Katie Sandwina, a circus strongwoman who defied cultural expectations and then became instrumental in the U.S. suffrage movement. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Club is holding a wonderful Spring Craft Fair on Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Lodge on Elks Lane off Maple Ave. in Saratoga. This Craft Fair benefits NYS Alzheimer’s Association. Admission is free and parking is excellent. An 8 x 6 foot space with an 8 ft. table and 2 chairs is $40. The 36th Annual Flurry Festival

February 16-18 at the Saratoga Springs City Center. Dozens of traditional dance and music genres, including swing, contra, blues, square and line dancing, Cajun, Zydeco, English country, Balkan, Scandinavian, Latin, Scottish, tango, fusion, international, Irish, Bal folk, African, Appalachian dance, and more. More than 300 performers and teachers will present 221 sessions, including concerts, demonstrations, dance instruction, instrument workshops, jams, storytelling, singing, and participatory dances. Tickets can be purchased online through February 11 or throughout the weekend at the door. Discounts available for seniors, those under age 26, and military. Genealogy and Local History

Heritage Hunters will meet on Saturday, February 17, at 1 p.m. at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St., Schuylerville. Daniel Bradt will present the program, “An Archaeological Look at the Saratoga and Schenectady Railroad.” The railroad was only the 2nd built in the state and began operating in 1832. Portions of it have been the subject of archaeological digs in recent years. Dan has assisted in the digs and has worked on several other archaeology projects in Saratoga County. With a scientific background, he holds Basic and Advanced Certificates of Completion from Schenectady County Community College in the Community Archaeology Program. The public is welcome. Brass Bash – Beckoning Spring

Honors Brass Students, coached by Patrice Malatestinic, will be joined by area horn players for an afternoon of lively brass music. Featuring Tuba, Horn, & Euphonium soloists from Skidmore’s Bodacious Brass, the program will include works by Cheetham, Bernstein, McMillan, Danielssohn, Whelan, Beethoven, Mozart and Humperdinck. Annual Sweetheart Dance

Held on February 10 at the Saratoga–Wilton Elks Lodge, 1 Elk Lane in Saratoga Springs. GRAVITY will be our entertainment for the night.  Cocktails from 6-7 p.m., dinner 7 p.m., and entertainment from 9-midnight. A Night at the Aldridge House

Opening in 1792, the building that now houses Brookside Museum was a hotel that hosted guests to Ballston Spa for over 50 years. On Thursday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m., Brookside Museum is hosting an immersive evening of food, music, and stories. Ticket holders will enjoy a night of hearty stew, bread, refreshing cider, and jaunty music. Tickets are $25 per person, $20 for SCHC members. Saratoga County.

9th Annual Chocolate Fest

Presented by the Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association, the festival will take place on Friday, February 2 from 4-8 p.m. throughout the village of Ballston Spa. Area restaurants, bakeries, and chefs are all welcome to compete to showcase their talents and tastes by preparing small, sample-sized chocolate offerings in 3 categories: Dessert (Sweet), Savory, and Chocolate Beverage. These treats will be judged by Chocolate-fest goers. While savoring delicious chocolate treats, visitors will also enjoy a variety of special business promotions going on throughout the Village.

Free AARP Foundation Tax-Aide

Beginning February 2 through April 12, AARP Foundation will provide free tax assistance and preparation through its Tax-Aide program at the Ballston Spa Library, located at 21 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest volunteer-based free tax preparation service. Volunteers are trained and IRS-certified every year to ensure they understand the latest changes to the U.S. Tax Code. Tax-Aide will provide taxpayer assistance through interaction with IRS-certified Tax-Aide volunteers in two short same day, in-person meetings to exchange documents. 11th Annual Chili Bowl Fundraiser

Held at the Saratoga Springs City Center, 522 Broadway, Saratoga Springs on February 3 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Participating restaurants include Cardona’s Market (returning Champion), Kindred, RHEA, Fat Paulies and Walt and Whitman.  Guests purchase tickets to enter, choose a handmade bowl, enjoy live music, and participate in the chili taste testing. A portion of the proceeds benefit the local cancer non-profit organization To Life and the Wilton Food Pantry. Tickets are $27 and include a handmade bowl (plus tax). Pre-purchase bowls and tickets at saratogaclayarts.org.   You can bring 2 non-perishable food items for Wilton Pantry and save $2 on your ticket. Guests can choose from 3 time slots and have the opportunity to purchase more bowls onsite. The chili competition is fierce, and guests always have lots of fun. 

The Saratoga Winterfest 5K Snowshoe Run/Walk

Held on Sunday, February 4 at 11 a.m. in the Saratoga Spa State Park.  There will be no indoor facilities and we will meet in the quadrangle near the Wired restrooms. The Camp Saratoga 8K Snowshoe Race will be held on Saturday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park.  Registration for both events can be done online through www.runsignup.com with day-of onsite. Hattie’s Mardi Gras

Saturday, January 27, Hattie’s Mardi Gras will be held at the Saratoga Springs City Center. This year’s beneficiary is The SEAT Center Culinary Lab, an organization dedicated to training young people for careers in the culinary and hospitality industries.  Business for Good’s Co-Founders Ed and Lisa Mitzen will host the event. Acclaimed actress, producer, singer, dancer, and advocate Vanessa Williams will be the event’s special guest. DJ Fernando Bustamente will provide entertainment during the cocktail hour, and live music will be performed by Soul Session and Garland Nelson. Hattie’s Executive Chefs Jasper Alexander, Mark Graham, and Phil Fitzpatrick and their team will bring the flavors of New Orleans to Saratoga Springs. Fundraiser Paint and Sip for Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War

Saturday, January 27, 3 p.m. at Paint-n-Gogh, 114 Milton Ave, Ballston Spa. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) Col. George L. Willard Chapter 154 is conducting a fundraiser at the local veteran owned business Paint-n-Gogh, paint, and sip.  A portion of each ticket will go towards the Chapters’ mission to preserve the history and legacy of the heroes who fought to save the Union during the Civil War such as our funding to repair the New York’s 77th Regiment Monument.  Online registration required. The Musicians of Ma’alwyck 

On Saturday, January 27 at 3 p.m., Old Saratoga Reformed Church will be hosting The Musicians of Ma’alwyck’s Tribute to Hilary Tann Concert. On Sunday, January 28, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. the popular Elks Ladies Auxiliary Indoor Craft and Garage Sale will be held at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Club on Elks Lane. Admission is free. Over 40 vendors, great parking, crafts galore, and lunch. Genealogy and Local History

Heritage Hunters will meet on Saturday, January 20, at 1 p.m. at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St., Schuylerville. Alan Maddaus, writer, historical researcher, and engineer, will lead the program. “The Prestons of East Street-the Story of a 19th Century American Family.” Alan’s book follows the lives of Dr. and Mrs. Calvin Preston and their seven offspring, and how they experienced the many major events of the 1800s while living in the village of Galway. 11th Annual Chili Bowl Fundraiser

Held at the Saratoga Springs City Center, 522 Broadway, Saratoga Springs on February 3 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Participating restaurants include Cardona’s Market (returning Champion), Kindred, RHEA, Fat Paulies and Walt and Whitman. Guests purchase tickets to enter, choose a handmade bowl, enjoy live music, and participate in the chili taste testing. A portion of the proceeds benefit the local cancer non-profit organization To Life and the Wilton Food Pantry. Tickets are $27 and include a handmade bowl (plus tax). Pre-purchase bowls and tickets at saratogaclayarts.org.  You can bring 2 non-perishable food items for Wilton Pantry and save $2 on your ticket. Guests can choose from 3 time slots and have the opportunity to purchase more bowls onsite. The chili competition is fierce, and guests always have lots of fun. 

The Saratoga Winterfest 5K Snowshoe Run/Walk 

Held on Sunday, February 4 at 11 a.m. in the Saratoga Spa State Park. There will be no indoor facilities and we will meet in the quadrangle near the Wired restrooms. The Camp Saratoga 8K Snowshoe Race will be held on Saturday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park.
