Held on Saturday, February 11 at the Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park at 10:30 a.m. May have an indoor facility for this one depending on COVID. 24th Annual Chowderfest 

Discover Saratoga is excited to announce the 24th Annual Chowderfest on Saturday, February 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Event goers will have the opportunity to enjoy 4 oz. samples of chowder for $2 at participating Saratoga County establishments and vote for their favorite. This event is coordinated by Discover Saratoga and presented by Saranac and White Claw. Free shuttles to downtown Saratoga Springs will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Saratoga Casino Hotel. Abstract/Organic, A Duo Exhibition 

Showcasing two contrasting sensibilities in clay — exquisite abstract vessels by Chip McKenney (FL) and expressive organic sculptures by Cheryl Horning (Greenwich). McKenney and Horning were paired together for this duo exhibition because of their unique interpretations of abstraction in clay. Additionally, they were both educated at Skidmore College and were former students of Regis Brodie, a tenured professor of Art at the Department of Art and Art History at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs for more than thirty years. Abstract/Organic will run February 11 – March 18, with an opening reception on Saturday, Feb. 11, 5-7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free. Another Op’nin’ Another Show

Saratoga Voices’ popular dinner cabaret series returns on February 11 and 12, featuring 100 years of Broadway songs. Under the baton of Dr. Michael Lister, you’ll hear the best of Broadway from 1923 to 2023; from Irving Berlin to Lin-Manuel Miranda. A sumptuous dinner at The Vista at Van Patten Golf Club, 924 Main St., Clifton Park, NY will include salmon, sirloin steak, a vegetarian option, and carrot cake. The events begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 11 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 12 with appetizers and a cash bar, followed by dinner and concert. Cabaret tickets ($85 each) can be purchased at proctors.org or saratogavoices.org. Reservations must be received by February 3. No tickets are available at the door.

Annual Sweetheart Dinner Dance

The Saratoga/Wilton Elks Ladies Auxiliary is holding the dance on Saturday, February 11 at the Elks Lodge, 1 Elk Lane, Saratoga Springs.  The Band GRAVITY will be our entertainment. Cocktails/appetizers  6-7 p.m., dinner 7 p.m., and entertainment 9 p.m. – midnight. The raffles will benefit Foreverly House (Veterans Community Housing Coalition Home for Female Veterans with Children. Entree choices are Prime Rib, Stuffed Chicken, and Spinach Lasagna; served with roasted potatoes, tossed salad, roll, and green beans. Dessert is a cupcake tower with a variety of flavors. New York Grown and Certified Workshop 

Join Schoharie County Office for Agricultural Development, Mohawk Valley Economic Development District, Inc. (MVEDD), and the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets on February 15 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for the workshop.  It will include information addressing the process to apply, benefits of certification, exclusive grant, and marketing opportunities, and more. The program offers opportunities for traditional dairy, livestock, and produce farms, but also for less conventional producers (fresh cut flowers, maple, honey, firewood, craft beverage ingredients, craft beverage production and more). February Break Camps

2 Camps. Costuming From Start to Finish: Over the course of the week, students will draw a rendering, learn basic machine and sewing skills, create a small project to practice skill, and collaborate with instructors and peers for ideas to make their design a reality. They will also be encouraged to utilize up-cycled materials and found objects. Feb. 20-24, 9 a.m. – Noon, ages 10 – adult, cost is $275 includes all materials.
Rising Stars: High School Musical Week: Join us for a week of singing, dancing, crafts, and fun. Students will work towards putting on a short performance for family and friends on Friday.  February 20 – 24, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Ages 4-7. Class fee $300. February Break Drama Camp with Elyse Young

Town of Malta Parks and Recreation Department announces February Break Drama Camp for ages 10-15 will run Tuesday, Feb. 21 through Friday, Feb. 24 from10 a.m. -3 p.m. The camp will be taught by Malta’s Artistic Director Elyse Young and will include acting skills, vocal techniques, theater games, crafts, rehearsals and performance of a short play. Fish Fry Friday

Knights of Columbus Council #246 will be hosting Fish Fry Friday each Friday throughout Lent, February 24 through April 7, 5-7 p.m. Advance call-in of orders on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays between the hours of noon and 3 p.m., beginning on Wednesday, February 22. A Winter Concert: Return of the Duos

Saratoga Chamber Players is pleased to announce a winter concert on Saturday February 25, at 3 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Avenue, in Saratoga Springs. The program will bring together Jill Levy, violinist, and Artistic Director, with Margaret Kampmeier, pianist.  With music spanning four centuries, treat yourself to the Classical sweetness of Franz Schubert, the contemporary Turkish delight of Kamran Ince, the modern French birdsongs of Olivier Messiaen and the passionate, modern inventiveness of Richard Strauss. Parkinson’s Cabin Fever Dance Party

HELP for Parkinson’s, a local charity committed to helping those affected by Parkinson’s Disease live well, invites you to join us on Saturday, March 4. Dancing and fun starts at 7 p.m. The event location is the Colonie Golf & Country Club, 13 Country Club Ln. Voorheesville. Meet old and new friends, eat, drink, have fun, and dance to the local band GB-five, knowing that you will be supporting the local Parkinson’s community. Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive condition, for which there is no cure. The HELP for Parkinson’s organization’s mission is to bring local programs and resources, as well as relevant local and national information directly to those living here in the capital region dealing with Parkinson’s. Southern Saratoga Art Society Exhibits

Artists and members are exhibiting during January and February.  Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 153 Nott Terrace, Schenectady is hosting three artists, William Daisak, Karen Zimmer, and Carol Winterton. The Clifton Park Senior Community Center Gallery, 6 Clifton Commons Ct., Clifton Park will be hosting “The Two Vals”, Valerie Woodward and Valerie Wolf, featuring an eclectic mix of artwork and use of vibrant colors in landscapes, still-life, paint pouring, realism to abstract, The Mechanicville Library, 190 N. Main Street, Mechanicville will feature artist Barbara Hurley. Corning Museum of Glass Trip

A one-day trip on Wednesday, April 19, open to the public. Explore this amazing glass museum right in our own backyard. Optional sandblasting workshop available, must pre-register. Chocolate Fest

The Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association is excited to announce our 8th Ballston Spa Chocolate Fest, on Friday, February 3 from 4 -8 p.m. We are currently announcing sponsorship opportunities as well as a call for Chocolate Chef entries. Area restaurants, bakeries, and chefs are all welcome to compete to showcase their talents and tastes by preparing small, sample-sized chocolate offerings in 3 categories: Dessert (Sweet), Savory, and Chocolate Beverage. These treats will be judged by Chocolate-fest goers.  While savoring chocolate treats, visitors will enjoy a variety of First Friday activities going on throughout the Village, including live music, artist demonstrations and special promotions just in time for Valentine’s Day. Free AARP Foundation Tax-Aide

AARP Foundation will provide free tax assistance and preparation through its Tax-Aide program at the Ballston Spa Public Library every Friday, February 3 – April 14. Volunteers are trained and IRS-certified to ensure they understand the latest changes to the U.S. Tax Code. Tax-Aide will provide taxpayer assistance through interaction with IRS-certified Tax-Aide volunteers in two short same day, in-person meetings to exchange documents. Poetry Workshop: The Creative Fire of Folklore 

 On Saturday, February 4 and 11 at 11 a.m., published poet Susan Comninos will discuss and employ techniques for incorporating elements of your community’s folklore into identity-based poems that can function as your “origin stories.” Come prepared to try your hand at techniques for folding family sayings, stories, and more into poetry that’s at once individual and universal. Mid-Winter Lights Festival

Everyone is invited to join us on Saturday February 4 to Brighten the Night in the Saratoga Springs Arts District at Beekman Street. Drop-in lantern-making, suitable for all ages, starts at 4 p.m. at CREATE Community Studios, 70-B Beekman Street; materials provided. At 5 p.m., we’ll take a lantern-lit guided stroll through the neighborhood. (Note: We will be using battery operated candles; no open flames allowed.) We’ll make stops at a couple of historic locations. There will be a bit of music, including sing-along songs. There may even be some dancing! We’ll return to the start for the closing ceremony. Countdown to the Triple Crown

This new event on Saturday, February 4, will feature hundreds of silent auction items and an online auction of unique items and experience packages to benefit the Museum. Guests can attend the event in person from 5 to 8 p.m. or bid on special packages online. High School All-Stars Exhibition 🙂

Every year, Saratoga Arts solicits high school art teachers representing schools from Saratoga, Fulton, and Montgomery counties, to submit artwork from their top three students. The work is installed in our Main Gallery space for the public to see the amazing talent of our local high school all stars. This year, Saratoga Arts encouraged submissions of both visual artwork and written artwork, with the theme Ekphrasis in mind. Looking to the above quote as a definition, we hope that all viewers of the exhibit will walk away questioning how visual artwork can inspire the written word, and the written word can inspire the visual. At 10 a.m., Allan Maddaus will speak about his book: “Wright Peak Elegy: A Story of Cold War, Nuclear Deterrence and Ultimate Sacrifice.” The book chronicles the story of a U.S Strategic Air Command B-47 Stratojet, flying at 400 miles an hour during a practice bombing run in wind-driven snow and freezing rain, that crashed into Wright Peak in the Adirondack Mountains in 1962. The Art of Puppetry with Lita Carbone

Our future puppeteers will learn how to develop characters and explore how to make a puppet come to life for an audience. Genealogy and Local History, Heritage Hunters: The Saratoga Room

1 p.m. | A Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County talk by recently appointed Saratoga Room archivist, Michelle Isopo. Isopo talks about how Saratoga Room houses the Local History Collection of the Saratoga Springs Public Library. Besides the usual items genealogists would anticipate finding there, such as shelves of city directories and microfilmed issues of 19th century Saratoga newspapers, the collection offers unexpected resources. Isopo will discuss these lesser-known items, such as the assortment of scrapbooks on the old Hawley Home for Children.

An Afternoon with Town Historian Rick Reynolds 🙂

Our Lady of Grace, 73 Midline Rd., Ballston Lake | 2 p.m.  Join us for an informative and interactive presentation by the knowledgeable and always entertaining Town Historian Rick Reynolds as he tells us about the roles Our Lady of Grace has played in the local community over its 100-year history.  Town of Ballston Historian and parishioner, Rick Reynolds, will share our beginnings in the pavilion at Forest Park to our first church on Edward Street, to today’s modern facility on Midline Road, Our Lady of Grace, its people, and its leaders, and how they have played an active role in local history. This event is part of a series celebrating the Parish Centennial. The public is invited. Light refreshments will be served after the presentation.  Cost: Free will donation. The Saratoga Room

A Heritage Hunters of Saratoga County talk on January 21, by recently appointed Saratoga Room archivist, Michelle Isopo. Isopo talks about how Saratoga Room houses the Local History Collection of the Saratoga Springs Public Library. Besides the usual items genealogists would anticipate finding there, such as shelves of city directories and microfilmed issues of 19th century Saratoga newspapers, the collection offers unexpected resources. Isopo will discuss these lesser-known items, such as the assortment of scrapbooks on the old Hawley Home for Children. The meeting is at the Town of Saratoga’s Town Hall, 12 Spring Street, on the corner of routes 29 and 4 in Schuylerville.

An Afternoon with Town Historian Rick Reynolds

The Saratoga County History Center (SCHC) announces a virtual presentation by Dr. Eliga Gould on the Global War for American Revolution. Dr. Gould will participate in the History Center’s popular virtual speaker series “Experts Next Door.” At 7 p.m. on January 31, Dr. Gould will explain the global war for American independence and the role played by the battles of Saratoga in 1777. Light in the Darkness

A service of Comfort & Home for the longest night of the year. Wednesday, December 21, at 7 p.m. Christmas can be a painful time. The constant, inescapable refrain about the happiness of the season reminds many people of what they have lost or have never had. Broken or lost relationships, employment and financial insecurity, poor health, depression–all of these can be more difficult as the nights lengthen and the cold intrudes. Recognizing that Christ came to comfort those who struggle with sadness and pain, First Presbyterian Church will host a community service of scripture, prayer, music, and candle lighting to invite God’s Word to shine light into our darkness. Veterans and their families will be honored with the laying of wreaths by members of the Glenville Hills Garden Club on Saturday, December 10, at noon at the following locations: Galway Junior-Senior High School, Galway Town Hall, Galway Village Park, Gideon Hawley Park in Charlton, Providence Town Hall and the Scotch Church Cemetery in West Charlton. The public is invited.

Winter Concert

Friends of the Ballston Spa Public Library announces A Dan Berggren Concert Seasoned with Winter Songs and Stories event on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. Free, all-ages concert. Dan Berggren is a tradition-based songsmith who writes with honesty, humor, and a strong sense of place. Jane Austen Birthday Tea

Hosted by the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA)-New York Capital Region on Sunday, December 11, Inn at Saratoga, 231 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Local author Heather Moll will discuss her latest novel, An appearance of Goodness, a murder mystery set at Pemberley. The mystery theme will continue with a discussion of the many Jane Austen mystery series. Saratoga Youth Symphony Winter Performance

The Saratoga Youth Symphony will be performing at the Presbyterian-New England Congregational Church on 24 Circular Street, Saratoga Springs on Saturday, December 17 at 7 p.m. Free Admission.

Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting 

On Friday, December 2 the Village of Ballston Spa will become a winter wonderland. The parade steps-off on the north side of Milton Avenue at 6:30 p.m. and proceeds to West High Street. Following the parade, Mr. and Mrs. Claus will arrive on the back of an Eagle-Matt Lee Fire Company truck to light the tree in Wiswall Park. The parade will once again spotlight the Toys for Tots campaign, in partnership with the Ballston Spa Community Emergency Corps, Saratoga County Sheriff Department and the U.S. Marine Corps. Volunteers from these organizations will be on hand to collect donations of new, unwrapped toys from spectators along the parade route as well as at the tree lighting.

The Stretch Your Budget Christmas Sale 

Shop for your Christmas Gifts for a donation and enjoy a cup of coffee, punch, and cookies. NO dealers or used to give to other agencies. Sale is for families who need gifts for their own. Breakfast with Santa 🙂

After a two-year pause, Breakfast with Santa returns this year. There are three Breakfasts with Santa on Saturday, December 3: the first scheduled for 8:30-9:30 a.m., then 10-11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.; Sundaes with Santa follows from 1-2 p.m. Tickets are $10 each. Children 2 and under are free. Adults must accompany children. Tickets include either the breakfast or sundae, a tour of the Festival of Trees, a photo with Santa and access to a variety of children’s activities for $1 per ticket. Activities include cookie decorating, face painting, manicures, ornament making, picture frame creating and letters to Santa. There will also be a Holiday Shop with gifts for purchase. Adirondack Christkindlmarkt 

Come celebrate the holidays at The Adirondack Christmas Market 2022! Browse from more than 32 vendors in heated tents and enjoy live entertainment and beverages. The event will be held in Glens Falls City Park on December 2 from 3 – 8 p.m., December 3 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., and December 4 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. 

Holiday Craft Fair Fundraiser 

December 4 in the Greenwich High School Gym, located at 10 Gray Ave., Greenwich from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. We have over 60 vendors attending and will be having a basket raffle, specialty item raffle, and concessions with homemade hot foods & baked goods!
