Auditions for Xanadu

Seeking performers ages 18 – 50. Xanadu is a hilarious spoof on one of Hollywood’s worst films. This production is campy and filled with lots of fun. Character acting is essential! Certain characters require additional special skills. Rehearsals are November 26 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. at our studio at 615 Maple Ave., Saratoga Springs. Performers will be seen in the order they arrive and should prepare approximately 16 to 32 bars in the style of the show. Monthly Indoor Craft and Garage Sale 

On Sunday, November 27, from 11 a.m. -3 p.m. the popular Elks Ladies Auxiliary Indoor Craft and Garage Sale will be held at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Club on 1 Elks Lane, Saratoga Springs. Admission is free. Over 40 vendors, great parking, crafts galore, and lunch. household items, hand-made items, clothing, wreaths, food treats, body lotions, and just about anything you can imagine in time for Christmas. Artisan Market – Craft Vendors Wanted

The Juried Artisan Market is held at Saratoga County History Center at Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Ave Ballston Spa. The market is open to the public from Saturday, November 26 through Saturday, December 24 and will be staffed by museum employees. SCHC @ Brookside Museum handles all sales tax and pays vendors 60% of the sale price of their items. Booth fees are $30 for a 4’x4’ area and $45 for a 4’x6’ area. A limited number of booths with electricity are available for an additional $10 per booth. Vendors must provide a typed (preferably digital) inventory list. Vendors are responsible for their booth set up; tables and shelving will not be provided by SCHC @ Brookside Museum. The Southern Saratoga Art Society Meeting

Monday, November 28, 6:30 p.m., and have a special art demonstration hosted by the Blooming Artist Gallery, 675 Grooms Road Clifton Park., Rexford Landing Plaza. Featured artist will be Ilona Zabolotna demonstrating a “Coffee Painting” using her recently developed unique technique of brewed expresso as a medium. Her style flows much like watercolor and champions combining refined detail with pouring coffee and freely expressive splatter.  Her portraits are full of emotions with knowledge of anatomy. The demonstration is open to the public and made possible by Saratoga Arts through the Community Arts Regrant Program, funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. Giving Tuesday 

As a good faith effort, Ballston Spa Public Library (BSPL) will hold a special Giving Tuesday promotional for patrons on Tuesday, November 29. This is a one-day event. If a patron has any overdue items at home BSPL will waive any fines that is associated with that item. Any previous overdue fines or replacement fines do not qualify. The Clifton Park Senior Community Center Gallery, 6 Clifton Common Ct., Clifton Park will be hosting members in a show called “Seasons” showcasing the elegance of Spring, the passion of Summer, the subtlety of Autumn and the harshness of Winter during the months of November and December. The Mechanicville Library, 190 N. Main Street, Mechanicville will feature artist, Karen Zimmer for the months of November and December. Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting

Milton Ave., Ballston Spa | 6:30 p.m. The Village of Ballston Spa will soon become a winter wonderland. The parade steps-off on the north side of Milton Avenue and proceeds to West High Street. Following the parade, Mr. and Mrs. Claus will arrive on the back of an Eagle-Matt Lee Fire Company truck to light the tree in Wiswall Park. The parade will once again spotlight the Toys for Tots campaign, in partnership with the Ballston Spa Community Emergency Corps, Saratoga County Sheriff Department and the U.S. Marine Corps. Volunteers from these organizations will be on hand to collect donations of new, unwrapped toys from spectators along the parade route as well as at the tree lighting.

She Kills Monsters 

For the first time, SCT is producing a play on our MainStage, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! This is a story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and ’90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all. The Middle Grove United Methodist Church is having their annual Christmas Craft and Vendor Fair on Saturday, November 19 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. A variety of crafters and vendors will present at our small but mighty church. The Thymly Herb Garden Group Monthly Meeting

Artist Talk and Demonstration

Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway, presents an Artist Talk and Demonstration November 12 at Noon. Our current Featured Artist, Tari Lee Sykes, will talk about each of her Chinese scroll paintings now on display. She will discuss the meaning behind the subjects, how she learned to do them, explain the materials used, answer questions, and give a demonstration on use of the inks, brushes, etc. She’ll have materials available for attendees to try the Chinese Painting technique. Saratoga Chips & Beer Festival

The Saratoga County History Center is partnering with DeCrescente Distributing Company to bring you the Saratoga Chip and Beer Festival on Saturday, November 12, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Avenue, Ballston Spa., featuring old-time musicians John Kirk and Trish Miller. They will bring their traditional “fiery fiddle tunes” and other folk gems rooted in American traditions to the festival. The duo complements our beautiful exhibit that tells the many stories behind the chip, and it’s natural to partner with DeCrescente, which not only distributes local craft beer and Saratoga Chips but is a historic fourth-generation Saratoga County business. More Saratoga County Stories

The second volume of stories published by the Saratoga County History Center (SCHC) covers various topics related to the history of Saratoga County. This compilation of 66 articles by 33 authors, originally published weekly by the Saratoga County History Roundtable, draws on the knowledge and experiences of local historians and “history buffs,” some of which have only recently taken up the pen to share their stories. The book will be released and available for sale at Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Avenue, Ballston Spa, on Sunday, November 13, from 2-4 p.m. where guests can talk with the authors and obtain signed copies of the book. Polka Dance 

Knights of Columbus Council #246 will be hosting a Polka Dance on Sunday, November 13, from 2-6 p.m. to raise funds for homeless veterans. The cost will be $20, payable at the door. Between Heaven & Earth

Spring Street Gallery is honored to present works by Rabbi Linda Motzkin, a Torah scribe, author, parchment maker, and an artist to be celebrated on her solo exhibition opening November 13 from 2 – 4 pm. It’s also a celebration of Rabbi Motzkin’s and her husband Rabbi Jonathan Rubenstein’s retirement from Temple Sinai in downtown Saratoga Springs where they have served as co-rabbis together since 1986. Presentation: Katrina Trask’s Saratoga Legacy

Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs History Museum: Rumara Jewett speaks about Saratoga visionary Katrina Trask (1853-1922) on the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Trask Gateway Memorial in Congress Park. The evening also includes historical readings by Tamie Ehinger and Michael Belanger, a musical performance of Trask’s lyrics by vocalist Eileen Egan Mack and pianist Michael Clement, and a special exhibition. Saratoga Winter Club’s Saratoga Cup Speedskating Meet 

The Saratoga Winter Club will hold the annual Saratoga Cup and NorthEast Series I Short Track Speedskating Meet on Saturday, November 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Weibel Avenue Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. Admission is free and open to the public. Speedskaters from the Capital District as well as from Vermont, Massachusetts, New Jersey and beyond will compete at this East Coast Tradition. Volunteers are still needed to help with off-ice positions including timers and judges. Saratoga Chips & Beer Festival

The Saratoga County History Center is partnering with DeCrescente Distributing Company to bring you the Saratoga Chip and Beer Festival on Saturday, November 12, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Avenue, Ballston Spa., featuring old-time musicians John Kirk and Trish Miller. Reimagining Jewish Life in the Middle East and North Africa, 1800-Present

Seeking Tax Assistance Volunteers

Tax-Aide, the free income tax assistance program sponsored by the AARP Foundation and the IRS, is seeking volunteers for the upcoming tax season at various sites in Saratoga, Washington and Warren Counties. You do not need to be an AARP member to volunteer. Tax-Aide volunteers answer questions and prepare returns for low to moderate income taxpayers and seniors from February 1 to April 15, 2023. The Saratoga Regional YMCA will be hosting its annual LiveSTRONG, Live Fun event at the Saratoga Lake Golf Club on Friday, September 30. An hour of flute and piano arrangements of uplifting music. Finding land to farm can be a tough challenge for new farmers or those looking to expand their operations. Join the Agricultural Stewardship Association for a day long tour on Sunday, October 2, featuring three properties which offer leasing and/or farm management opportunities for farm seekers. 250th Anniversary of the Fulton County Courthouse 

On October 3 at 7p.m. join the Galway Preservation Society at their monthly meeting.  This month, Fulton County Historian Samantha Hill-Saladino will give a presentation on the history of the Fulton County Courthouse.  The courthouse was built in 1772 and is recognized as New York’s oldest continuously operating courthouse. The Town of Malta CERT is presenting the first “Stop the Bleed” course. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is joining the Town to present this life-saving training class. Minutes count! Tax-Aide, the free income tax assistance program sponsored by the AARP Foundation and the IRS, is seeking volunteers for the upcoming tax season at various sites in Saratoga, Washington and Warren Counties. You do not need to be an AARP member to volunteer. Tax-Aide volunteers answer questions and prepare returns for low to moderate income taxpayers and seniors from February 1 to April 15, 2023. Truck Rodeo

The SWW Workforce Development Board, along with local businesses, have teamed up for the first tri-county Truck Rodeo on September 24. It will be held in the SPAC parking lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CDL drivers from local businesses will compete and test their skills operating various commercial vehicles. Truck driving is an exciting and essential role and having an CDL license opens many career opportunities. If you or someone you know has an interest in driving, or obtaining a CDL license, this is the place to be! Come out to cheer on drivers from your favorite local businesses. Plus, food trucks and a Touch-a-Truck corral. Fun for all ages!

Wheels: Women and Independence, 1900 – 1920 

Galway Public Library, 2112 East St, Galway | 11 a.m. Presenting Anne Rockwood’s program Wheels: Women and Independence, 1900 – 1920. Participants should register at 518-882- 6385 to join Anne as she celebrates the suffrage and automobility centennials. This traveling exhibit showcases the experiences of pioneer female automobile enthusiasts, with New York State as the starting point for their adventures. At the time, women represented less than 10% of licensed drivers, and “autoing” was definitely not for the faint of heart. Each woman has her own unique story to tell, with a passion for motoring at center.

After the Fire’s Monthly Meeting

The Social Origins of Authoritarian Regimes: A History of State-Middle Class Relations in Egypt

Annual Fall Barbecue 

Shenendehowa Rotary Club in Clifton Park is hosting the Annual Fall Barbecue to raise funds for “To Love a Child’s Bountiful Backpack” program.  This program is an all-volunteer effort that provides nutritional food for school-aged children in the Shenendehowa CSD.  The event is being held at the Shen United Methodist Church, located at 971 Rte. 146, Clifton Park. Open Mic Poetry Reading
On Wednesday, January 5, Caffè Lena will present a poetry reading by Suzanne Rancourt. An open mic poetry reading will follow. Doors open for sign-ups at 6:30 p.m. and the readings will start at 7 p.m. The host for the event will be Carol Graser and the cost is $5 general, free for students. Learn to Skate Program
The Saratoga Springs Figure Skating Club is offering a Learn to Skate Program. We are the only area club to offer the US Figure Skating sanctioned program. Our instructors are experienced and approved through USFS, the program is open to all ages from 3-adult.
