SARATOGA SPRINGS — Joan Dorothy (Paluch) Beebe, 88, formerly of the Clifton Park/Country Knolls/Ballston Lake area passed away on November 23, 2021, joining in heaven her late husband of 53 years Ralph S. Beebe, her companion Michael C. Donohue, two brothers Stanley and Joseph and five sisters, Agnes, Annette, Stella, Bernice (Bunny), and Mary Ann.

Born in Watervliet, NY, daughter of the late Francis and Helena (Piwnica) Paluch. She graduated Watervliet High School, class of 1951, and was the Valedictorian of her eighth-grade class of Immaculate Conception. Employed as an office administrator for 35 years in the New York Senate and Assembly, retiring in 1988.

Joan adored residing in Saratoga Springs, walking every day on the East Side, reading at the Victoria pool, attending cultural events, volunteering, and supporting many charities. A self-taught intellect, Joan cherished her family beyond belief. She relished cooking her Sunday meals for family gatherings. Joan provided a loving home for her children, grandchildren, and the many dogs she rescued and adopted. She will always be remembered for her gracious and caring spirit.

Joan leaves behind her loving family, four children; Ralph, Susan (formerly Moak), Lorna, her husband John Oberlander, David, his wife Christina; six beloved grandsons; Ryan Moak, his wife Lisa (Pugsley), Adam Moak, Alex Oberlander, Liam Oberlander, Trevor Oberlander, Joshua Beebe and her loving grand dogs Sammy and Bella.

Service was held Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs  followed by calling hours. 

Burial will be private at Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Ave.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Jacob Weakland, age 36, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at his home in Saratoga Springs. He was born on September 5, 1985 in Albany, NY, the son of James E. Weakland and Marcia Funke Weakland. He grew up in Round Lake, NY. 

Jacob will be remembered as a mystic of our times. An angel rarity in human form who found beauty and richness in the smallest, simplest and darkest of times. He turned tragedy into teachings and wore his heart on his sleeve. He spoke rawly from that heart and left his words unfiltered. His beautifully mad brilliance was ahead of his time, and he used it to inspire and bring hope to the lives of so many. Many people have said they owe their lives to Jacob, for he was there to guide them, to love them, to remind them of their worth in their darkest of days. He was a lover of food and used it to create art and delight for those he cooked for. He had an uncanny passion and talent for photography, writing and motivational speaking. He loved animals and sunrises and found extravagance in the mundane. He cherished his family and found the greatest pride in being an older brother to his younger twin siblings. He was a deeply sensitive family man who made it his mission to plant seeds of love and hope with everyone he met. A true gardener of the heart, that’s what he called connection: planting seeds. 

Jacob is survived by his parents, James and Marcia Funke Weakland; daughter, Kara Elizabeth Rucinski; brother, Joshua Weakland; sister, Jenna Weakland; countless friends and family who loved and cherished him dearly. 

A funeral service was held on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY followed by a celebration of life in Jake’s honor at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge #161.

A graveside service was held on Monday, November 22, 2021 at East Union Cemetery for family and close friends.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Nancy C. Dowd died peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at home in Saratoga Springs after a short illness. She is survived by her husband, Edward (Ned) Fanning, two sisters, Kathleen Smith and Mimi (John) Carusone, and two brothers Patrick (Shauna) and William (Mary Ann). She was predeceased by her parents and a brother John (Casey). Nancy is also survived by many nieces and nephews and was known throughout the family as the “fun aunt.” 

Nancy was born in Saratoga Springs to her parents, Helen and John Dowd of Nelson Avenue on July 12, 1949, when her mother announced to her older sisters that they had to leave the carousel at Kaydeross Park so Mommy could go to the hospital. 

Nancy was a graduate of Sea Pines School for Girls, Westbrook Junior College and Boston University. She spent several years living and working in Paris. Nancy established Albany Intertravel, a travel agency which she ran for many years. She enjoyed summers working at the Saratoga Racecourse and was employed by Sodexo at General Electric Research Center. She spent her retirement years working at Kane’s Fine Wine & Spirits 

Ned and Nancy enjoyed great travel adventures, from finding Fanning Island in the Central Pacific Ocean, to locating Ned’s grand uncle’s military grave in France, to attending family weddings in County Kerry, Berlin, and Santiago de Compostela. 

Graveside services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021, at St. Peter’s Cemetery on West Ave.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Marilyn M. Vallone, 79, of Schuylerville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Wesley Healthcare Facility in Saratoga Springs. She is now reunited with her beloved son, Vinny Vallone.

Originally from Flushing, NY and born to Monica (Bowe) Mathe and Herman (Pete) Mathe, Marilyn moved Upstate with her now deceased husband, Rod Vallone, in 1970. She loved living in the country (though later moved to Saratoga Springs) and always thought of Schuylerville as “home.” Marilyn loved being a stay-at-home mom (after a brief stint owning The Crooked Kiln ceramics studio) and was very involved with her community, her garden, and her children’s lives. She was an avid bowler, volunteer, collector, and lover of all things beautiful – whether it be a child’s piece of artwork, the puffy clouds in the sky above, or the colors of autumn’s leaves. She appreciated everything, and thanked God daily for her blessings.

After her kids were raised, Marilyn went to work at Woodlawn Commons, enjoying her time there so, she didn’t retire until the age of 72 years old. She had a fun-loving, compassionate heart and was truly a lover of all creatures; two-legged or four (she adopted many a stray over the years!) To know her was to love her. 

Marilyn will be missed by all who knew her, especially her daughter Chris Bushee, who is losing her best friend, and her granddaughter Alexandria Bushee, who is now pursuing a career in nursing which was nurtured by her close relationship to her “Grammie.” 

Marilyn is also survived by her son’s two daughters, Shayne and Samantha Vallone, and the many nieces and nephews who she adored, building wonderful relationships with over those formative years when all six siblings would shift their kids around for summer break. She loved having the kids come up and spend some time in the country. 

Marilyn is predeceased by two brothers; John (Jackie) Mathe and Don Mathe, who passed away recently and had many of the same attentive and loving nursing home caretakers (THANK YOU ALL!!).

Maryilyn’s oldest sister, Harriet Rackovitch is still living on Long Island’s North Fork and we all had the best vacation there before the dementia took its grip. Her other two sisters, Dee Dufault and Georgie Pelkowski, relocated upstate years ago, allowing them many good years together.
