SARATOGA SPRINGS — Patricia S. Mangona passed peacefully into our Lord’s care on February 21, 2024 after a short illness. She was 91 years old. Born March 5, 1932 in Glens Falls, she was the daughter of Gerald J. and Margaret J (Flynn) Sullivan. Pat was a 1950 graduate of St. Peter’s High School and a 1954 graduate of Skidmore College, both in Saratoga Springs. On January 18, 1964 she married the love of her life, Anthony F. Mangona also of Saratoga Springs. She worked at Skidmore College until the arrival of her son Gerald F. (Jerry) Mangona in 1968. Later she worked at Empire State College until her retirement. A devoted communicant of St. Clement’s Roman Catholic Church, she was a long-time member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas – Court McLaughlin #422.

Patricia is predeceased by her parents and her sister Margaret S. (Peggy) Roohan. Survivors include her son, Jerry Mangona of Saratoga Springs, three granddaughters: Alexandria of Tampa, FL; Juliann of Waco, TX and Lily of Latham, two nieces: Linda Ruth and her husband Jim of Waterford, NY and Patricia Uzzel of Marietta, GA, and a grand-nephew, Collin Ruth and a grand-niece, Leighann Uzzel.

Pat was a loving mother and grandmother who was very active in her retirement. She loved spending time with her three adoring granddaughters. She played in the Saratoga Women’s Golf League until this past summer. She enjoyed playing cards and was in several different groups over the years. One of her favorite things was competing in the Women’s Bocci League that was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall #246. Pat was extremely proud to have won 14 out of the last 15 years that she played bocci. Her most favorite activity was baking fresh cookies from scratch and all who tried them loved them.

The family would like to thank all of the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at Saratoga Hospital for the loving care that they provided. Dr. John Herzog for giving Pat these last thirteen years, for without him she would not have been here. Dr. Michael Mulvaney and his incredible staff for all the wonderful care they provided to her over the last ten years.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated after the remembrance at St. Clement’s Church, 231 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs. Burial followed in St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Avenue.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Saratoga Springs, NY native Timothy A. Brenenstuhl. He passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on February 19, 2024 after experiencing an accident in his home two weeks prior. Tim was 40 years of age.

Tim graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in 2001 before earning a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Vermont. It was there that he met his future wife, Sophia Green, and together the couple moved to Los Angeles after graduation. Their work soon took them to Thailand where they spent nearly a year on the set of the 2006 film “Rescue Dawn.” After returning to California, Tim stayed in the film industry for a time, continuing to work closely with Sophie’s parents, Patricia Green and the late Gerald Green, but ultimately chose to pursue opportunities in his original field of study. He worked for a few different landscape architecture firms in the area before starting his own company, TAB Design, which focused on the design, installation, and maintenance of unique landscape projects in southern California. In 2012, Tim earned his Master’s in Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture from UCLA, and the experience further amplified his interest in residential and commercial contracting and renovations. 

In 2021, Tim moved home to Saratoga Springs to be closer to his family and to follow his passions for craftsmanship in construction and historical home restorations. For the past three years, Tim had worked for himself and was excited to be in the middle of another project in downtown Saratoga, relishing the exhaustion that a long day of problem-solving and power tools brought him.

Tim was strong willed and curmudgeonly at times, but he also had an enormous heart, a contagious smile, and a wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, curious, and- in his younger days- never one to miss a good party. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all his many life experiences – he could build or fix almost anything. Reading and research were two of his favorite hobbies in recent times, but he also loved all types of outdoor recreation, classic Volkswagen vans, designing and building furniture, and music of all kinds (except smooth jazz- man, did he hate smooth jazz).

Tim is survived by his loving parents, mother Laurie Brenenstuhl and father Gary Brenenstuhl, his brother and sister-in-law Ryan and Megan Brenenstuhl and their daughter Caroline, former wife Sophia Green of Los Angeles and her family, his golden retriever Gracie, many extended family members, and countless friends near and far. 

He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. He will be missed dearly.

In typical Tim fashion, there will be no formal services planned, certainly no pomp and circumstance. A celebration of life will occur later in the summer with details to be determined.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Joseph Canterino, 98, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024 at his home in Saratoga Springs. He was born on April 27,1925 in New York City to Michael and Vita Canterino. Joseph was married to Norma (Herrick) for 53 years. He is predeceased by his parents and two sisters.

Joe was a resident of Saratoga Springs for 70 years, moving here to take a position as Plant Manager of Espey Mfg. 44 years later, in 1998 Joe retired as President of the company.

Joe served his country with honor in WWII from 1943-1945. He was a member of the 1st Marine Division, 1st Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Company 1. Joe saw action in Peleliu, Okinawa and Guadalcanal, and is a Purple Heart recipient.

Joe was an accomplished trapshooter for 40 years and a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association. After achieving the title of The Top Shooter in his age group in the U.S., Joe was inducted into the NYS Trap Shooting Hall of Fame in 1997. Joe also enjoyed deer hunting and pheasant hunting with one of his many dogs. Joe took up golf after retiring, is a past member of Saratoga Golf and Polo Club and earned 2 holes-in-one in one year.

Joe loved his family dearly. He is survived by his sons Christopher (Joan) and Michael (Mary), a daughter Ava Marco (James) and a stepdaughter Elaine Braim (Don). He also leaves behind grandsons Christopher (Rachel), Joesph (Tracee), Nicholas, Michael (Dana), Thomas (Jose), Bryan Marco (Shruthi) and step-grandson Edward Braim (Angela) and granddaughters Tina Honig (Jon), Julia Marco (Andrew), Nicole Marco and step-granddaughter Danielle Braim, along with 7 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at St. Clement’s Church, 231 Lake Ave. Saratoga Springs.

Burial with military honors will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Community Hospice & Palliative Care, and caregivers Sharon and Pam for making Joe comfortable, allowing him to remain at home.
