SARATOGA SPRINGS – It’s found in most cities, that place where storefronts seem to change hands daily and a long-term success story is the exception rather than the rule. For Saratoga Springs, that business Bermuda Triangle is South Broadway, and no one can quite figure out why.

“It has historically been like this on South Broadway,” said city Accounts Commissioner John Franck. “The east side of both Broadway and South Broadway have been more vibrant and busy, including having higher values; I can't quantify why that is other than to say it is the sunnier side of the street.”

SARATOGA SPRINGS – The city's Commissioner of Accounts, John Franck, has scheduled a public hearing on the issue of proposed changes to the Saratoga Springs city charter for 6:45 p.m. May 1. The hearing will take place prior to the regularly scheduled city council meeting. The city council could decide to vote later that evening about whether to include a measure on the November ballot that if passed, would do away with the current commission-based format in favor of the manager-council format. A change like that would ultimately necessitate the hiring of a city manager to oversee daily operations, along with other changes to individual department structure and mayoral responsibilities.

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Perhaps the largest springtime regatta event in the country, the 2012 Saratoga Rowing Invitational will kick off April 27 in Lee’s Park. According to event officials, the 2012 Invitational has already received over 900 entries for the 15th edition of the regatta. The two-day race brings elite rowing teams from New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Canada to compete right here in Saratoga Springs. Day one of the event will start April 27, from 4- 7:30 p.m. at the Fish Creek Marina located off of Stafford’s Bridge Road. The next morning you can catch some of the Liberty League’s regatta championships before the Saratoga Rowing Invitational resumes at 10:30 a.m. April 28.

NYRA and the National Steeplechase Association (NSA) are teaming up to present the Inaugural Steeplechase Festival at Saratoga on September 15. The event was announced April 11 at a press conference held at the National Museum of Racing.
