A Michoacán, Mexico, man has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed a coworker in the neck while she was giving him a ride home.
David Cruz Torres, 36, was arrested on Oct. 9, 2026, and charged with felony 2nd degree attempted murder, and misdemeanor 4th degree criminal possession of a weapon.
According to the Saratoga Springs Police Department, the incident was first reported around 8:13 p.m. when a vehicle struck Augie’s To-Go at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Forest Avenue.
On scene, the first responders found that the driver was suffering from a laceration to the neck that didn’t appear to be related to the collision. The driver was transported by ambulance to Saratoga Hospital and later airlifted to Albany Medical Center.
A subsequent investigation by Saratoga Springs Police found that Cruz Torres and the victim work together, and the victim had been giving him a ride home when the attack occurred. During the attack, he allegedly stabbed the victim in the throat, causing life threatening injuries. The attack ended after the victim jumped out of the moving vehicle and called for help. Police said that community members assisted the victim on scene and in the subsequent investigation.
Cruz Torres attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by Saratoga Springs Police. He has pled not guilty to the charges and is currently being held without bail.
“The Saratoga Springs Police Department would like to acknowledge the quick response from community members who rushed in to help, along with the rapid response of the Saratoga Springs Fire Department,” The Police Department said in a statement. “Both contributed greatly to the victim’s escape from Cruz Torres. Above all, the victim’s bravery and decision-making undoubtedly saved her own life during this violent attack. Our thoughts are with her and her family.”
In addition, the Police Department also thanked the medical staff at Saratoga Hospital and Albany Med as well as the Cohoes Police Department for their assistance.
