Mary Ann Zwijacz

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Mary Ann Zwijacz passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. She was 89.

Born on January 30, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ann (Rougier) Richmond. She went to St. Clement’s Elementary and graduated from St Peter’s High School. It wasn’t long after that she married the love of her life, Ted Zwijacz, and they began a journey that took them travelling across the country for the next 20 years while Ted served his country in the United States Air Force, and she raised their four children. Upon Ted’s retirement, they returned home to Saratoga. Mary Ann found a new calling and worked for over 40 years at Clement’s Insurance Agency retiring just days away from her 80th birthday. Mary Ann was an expert knitter, crocheter and tatter. Mary Ann would knit the winter coats for her family while in Alaska and the ponchos for their time in California. Her family would be recipients of new sweaters each and every year for the holidays. If there was a baby shower, the new bundle of joy would be sure to receive one of her famous crocheted blankets. If you were very special, she tatted beautiful doilies and tablecloths. She was a lifelong communicant of St Clement’s Church and in her later years, their satellite chapel, St Therese in Gansevoort. Mary Ann loved the Lord and determined not to miss a mass, watched the live feed from St. Clement’s Church during Covid on Facebook. Deacon Danny Boyd of St Therese delivered her communion and many hours of thoughtful conversation over the past few years, which she very much enjoyed.

In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her infant sister Rosemary Richmond, her brother John Richmond and her husband, Theodore Zwijacz. She is survived by her four children, Katherine Ann Zwijacz (Tom Michalek), Joanne DeVivo (Patrick), Theodore A Zwijacz (Stacey) and Curtis S Zwijacz (Lara); her grandchildren Belynda K. Zigrest (Matthew), Maria K. DeVivo, Nicholas T. DeVivo, Benjamin T. Zwijacz, Theodore C. Zwijacz, Connie M. Weils and Elizabeth A. Cabral; her great-grandchildren Adrianna, Bryon, Christopher, Logan, Landon and Sutton.
