Mary Eichorst Max
Saratoga Springs — Mary Eichorst Max, 98, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at Wesley Health Care Center; she was born December 11, 1922, in Middle Grove to the late Anna and Louis Eichorst. She was a 1940 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School.
Mary worked many years at Thompson Laundro-Mat and as a school bus driver before settling down to raising her four children. She loved spending the summer months tending to her garden and flower beds and camping with the grandkids. In the winter months you could find her sewing quilts or completing other craft projects. Later in life Mary loved to travel, from a summer road trip through Alaska to cross-country trips or a few cruises, she was always ready to see new things. After retirement she enjoyed going to casinos, it was one of her favorite things to do.
Mary was a lifetime member of the Middle Grove Methodist Church and the Middle Grove Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Axillary. She was a Boy Scout den mother for many years and was deeply involved in 4H with her children and grandchildren. You could also find her at all school functions lending a helping hand.
Mrs. Max is predeceased by her first husband Richard R. Mitchell, her parents Anna (Kreuger) Eichorst and Louis Eichorst, brothers Alfred, Edward and Lewis Eichorst, a sister Helen Watrous and her second husband, Frank Max.
She is survived by her children, Sandra (James) Wimet of Middle Grove, Rhoda (Tom) Braim of Middle Grove, Glen Mitchell of Middle Grove and Donna (Tom) Hammond of Wilton, brother Robert Eichorst of Middle Grove, and a sister Dorothy Sherman of Ballston Spa, grandchildren; Michele McClaskey, Traci Coleman, Justin Braim, Jodi Mathews, Glen Mitchell Jr, Brain Mitchell, Hannah Mitchell, Cody Hammond, Brianna Hammond and Dale Hammond; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her dearly.
A graveside service was held at the Middle Grove Cemetery on Friday September 17, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Mary’s memory to the Middle Grove Methodist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Wesley Nursing home for the loving care and support over the years Mary was there.
