“Revolutionary” Dance Hails Isadora Duncan at UPH Feb. 24

Empire State Youth Dance Ensemble at UPH in Saratoga Springs on Feb. 24.

SARATOGA SPRINGS —Empire State Youth Dance Ensemble will present “Revolutionary” at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 at Universal Preservation Hall.

“Revolutionary,” a dance/theater piece that takes the audience through the spoken word and famous dances of modern dance founder, Isadora Duncan (portrayed by area actress and dancer, Diane Lachtrupp).  Accompanying the dancers will be musician Michael Clement on piano.

The “Revolutionary” opening features a ballet piece created by visiting artist Donna Salgado of Continuum Contemporary/Ballet Company. Isadora Duncan revolted against ballet and set off on a journey of discovery towards developing a movement that was revolutionary of the times (and often controversial) laying the groundwork for modern dance in America.

The program concludes with an original modern dance piece by visiting artist Em Wein (independent choreographer) to show how the influence of Isadora Duncan lives on and through the work of choreographers today who continue to explore and create in response to the world they are living in.

Empire State Youth Dance Ensemble is a program of Nacre Dance Group aimed at providing talented young dancers with an opportunity to work with visiting choreographers through a rigorous rehearsal schedule to hone and broaden their dance and performance skills culminating in a professional performance for the community.
