Saratoga Springs — Sally E. Cogan, age 94, passed away peacefully June 11, 2021 in the company of loving family at the Wesley Health Care Residence.

Sally was born the second daughter of the late John and Grace Hamill on October 22, 1926 in Saratoga Springs, NY. She attended Saratoga Springs Schools and graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in 1944, where she not only exceeded in athletics, but learned to type 150 word per minute. 

The first of many careers soon followed. First working at Saratoga Industries (ESPY Manufacturing) for the war effort. She married the late James F. Cogan in 1946, beginning a second career as a homemaker and mother to six children. As her children grew and embarked on the journey to adulthood, Sally chose a professional career in 1971, and worked for many years at the State University Library at Albany, finally retiring in 1989. In retirement, she love bingo, bocce, playing cards, enjoying the company of many friends, and found time to share her cooking and especially baking repertoire which included chocolate oil cake, cream puffs and eclairs. Sally’s hobbies were cherished family, knitting afghans, flower gardening, and puzzles of any kind.

Sally was predeceased by her husband James; parents, John and Grace Hamill; sister Ruth Mitchell; granddaughter Kelley; and great grandson Jacob. On June 15th, Sally was joined in eternal life by her younger brother, John C. Hamill (Marge). Sally is survived by her 6 children Cheryl Williams (Duffy) of Pueblo, CO., Robert Cogan (Sharon) and Daniel Cogan (Mary) both of Saratoga Springs, NY, Kathleen Keeney (Ron) of Ballston Lake, NY, Patricia Dingman of Fort Edward, NY, and Diana Gladding (Eric) of Polk City, FL. In addition to her 6 children, Sally is survived by 16 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY (518-584-5373). Sally will be interred in the family plot (Hamill) in N. Milton Cemetery.
