William Nack to Share Saratoga Memories

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Turf writing legend William Nack will is coming to the Spa City to discuss his memories of Saratoga racing on Wednesday, August 21 at 7 p.m. in the Canfield Casino. This event is part of the Alfred Z. Solomon Charitable Trust Program Series and is co-sponsored by the Saratoga Springs History Museum and the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. This event is free and open to the public.

Talent Search

Most of us are still struggling to say sesquicentennial (ses-qui-cen-ten-ni-al), but already we are nearing the end of that celebration. It’s unlikely that our great sport will see this level of reverence again until the 200th anniversary and by that time a whole new generation of racing enthusiasts will be at the helm.

Division Street Dilemma

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Though a final report has not yet been released in the investigation of why 13 teachers left Division Street Elementary School this year, Saratoga Springs Superintendent Michael Piccirillo said the staff exit interviews have provided four areas of consideration for the district to take action on.

Travers Week Celebrations Kick Off

SARATOGA SPRINGS — This year may be one of the most exciting Travers week yet with a number of events and celebrations leading up to the famed Mid-Summer Derby next Saturday, as well as the showdown of three of thoroughbred racings’ top contenders this year—Kentucky Derby winner Orb, Belmont top finisher Palace Malice and Haskell Invitational winner Verrazano—all scheduled to race in the million dollar Travers Stakes.

  • Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office  A 20-year-old Watervliet man was charged with first degree manslaughter after allegedly “striking another person with a large wrench and causing that person’s death,” according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said they received a call of a fight in progress on Sparrow Drive in the town of Malta and the Investigation into the complaint led to the arrest of Cyrus J. Tetreault, 20, of Watervliet.  The victim was identified as 53-year-old Malta resident Brian M.
